Brutally honest Wilder on Talk Sport

Any professional footballer who needs a cuddle after fucking up is in the wrong job. The Liverpool fans smelled blood after Deano's gaff and gave him pelters but he didn't cave in or anything. That's got to be to his credit and thankfully he managed to pull himself together without a cuddle. I also noticed his team mates didn't rush round to console him either, they seemed nonplussed and appeared to just tell him to get on with it.

Handled well by all including the GK himself.
not true.. Egan went up and encouraged him. i get the impression Hendo is going a bit billy big bollocks.. just shut up mate. stop kissing the badge and concentrate on what you are doing. that will do for us.

Everybody makes mistakes / errors it’s why they put rubbers on the ends of pencils

WHAT?
Surely it's because it makes a nice soft end, and you don't get a nose bleed when picking your nose with it!
Never use the writing end just after you've sharpened it kids, like standing barefoot on an upturned plug.

Natalie Sawyer discussed the Deano thing with Danny Murphy this morning, and whilst Murphy was OK with Wilder's comments, Sawyer called it 'old school management' and I think used the word 'dinosaur'.
How wrong can a pundit be?
Old school is to defend players in public, no matter what they've done, and talk to them in private. New school management is to say it like it is and not bullshit everyone.
I know which I prefer.

Wilder was absolutely spot on. Henderson likes to shout about how he wants to be England and Man United's number one - well prove it pal.

It was an interview with a winner - and that's what Wilder is and why he has been successful so far.
Something that we know that Ian Wright might not is the self belief / arrogance that Henderson has. If you have that kind of belief then you need to back it up with near faultless displays 99% of the time.

I appreciate he's young but he's nowhere near demonstrating that level of consistency.

He's partly made a rod for his own back IMO. Let your goalkeeping do the talking for you.

He, justifiably, got praise from Wilder for saves against Chelsea and Southampton, off the top of my head, he will be man enough to accept criticism when it's due.
This. ^^^^

He loves being the centre of attention, it works both ways. De Gea has made a number of shockers and it doesn’t seem to affect him. If he wants to be a top player, he has to do the same. If he wants to make his mistakes out of the spotlight, we can cancel his loan in January and he can go and play for Chesterfield.

I missed her comments but I heard Murphy saying that Wilder knows what he’s doing, knows his players and pointed out that a lot of them had failed at other clubs before they joined us and perhaps needed that style of management to get the best out of them.

That's why women shouldn't be men's football pundits, coming out with stuff like that only reinforces the stereotype. Should stick to the ladies game and she can say what she wants then as she will be better placed to empathise.

Now THAT'S old school 😂

Now THAT'S old school 😂

Why, what she said is no dafter than, say, Danny Murphy popping up and saying you should have an old school manager there ranting at the ladies in their game and giving them the hairdryer treatment. He'd probably get sacked (or banned from football altogether these days). All I did was turn it around 360 degrees with my comment.

Er, maybe because you said that (all) women shouldnt be men's football pundits?
Lets be honest, the so called expert male pundits have come out with some right tripe lately, it's not exclusive to the female gender.

Some players need a cuddle others need a bollockimg, it’s up to the manager to find out what each ondividual need s to achieve their best. Personally I think deano with his big personality will absolutely respond better to criticism and the questioning of his ability than a cuddle
Absolutely, I’d expect Deano to be more of the “Ill show the fucking wanker type” rather than “I’m not putting up with that he can go bollocks”.

His mistake against Liverpool, in my opinion, is either a lack of concentration or over confidence. The other mistake(s), whilst contested on here as to how big they actually were, happen as a goalkeeper develops and to my knowledge Wilder just described them as “possibly could have done better”.

to see the "Wilder effect" you only need to reference not only his post match interview and demands for improvement, but look at John Egan. Come in to our club and been a colossus and when he makes a mistake he drops his head to the floor risking having his teeth kicked out in the cause of the team. THAT is a reflection of the winners mentality running thru the club.

Imagine McEverley doing that under Adkins he would have fallen flat on his face and we would have conceded

I for one, totally agree with Tufty on critising Henderson on this occasion. He does do all the social media, uber confident stuff, then he drops the clanger and to be honest has now had a few. (Stoke, Leeds, Villa x2, Chelsea, Liverpool) That is why he is not at Man Utd and instead they have extended De Gea, cos he is not yet top end- top flight keeper standard. Also as another poster mentioned, his distribution is not that good, particularly in the first half, kept booting it out of play.

He needs to step up, quit with the howlers and under Wilder he has the perfect mentor to bring the best out of him

For sure if he doesn't we will see Verrips or Moore or A.N. Other coming in next season

I'm not even sure it qualified as a criticism to be honest. All he really said was that if he has ambitions to play for Man Utd and England, he needs to do better. Just stating the blindingly obvious to me.

Can't believe the fools in the media getting mardy over this.

A quick cursory glance over Wilder's last 10 years in management should be enough to answer the question.

I'm yet to hear a manager criticise him, just ex-players who couldn't manage a big dinner.

Look last year with Woodburn. One or two in the media and some Liverpool fans complaining about Wilder's treatment of him.

One's in the Prem this season whilst the other is on the bench at Oxford.

Fuck em all.

Just as I was turning the radio on I heard Sawyer saying something like ‘does it work with PL players?’ and Murphy saying ‘it is working, it’s been working for three years’.

Durham just come on saying it’s a bigger issue than some are making out. No it’s not. You just haven’t got much to talk about.

One more thing - when CW does praise a player, you know he means it.

Currently discussing Wilder on Talksport.
Apparently he said he was’nt bothered what his keeper felt like after cocking up....
I couldn’t be arsed to listen too it.....

It was tripe. Durham struggling to make a case, Goughie was embarrassed. I hope no Blade bothers phoning up, he’s just on the wind up. Get back to slagging Arsenal, Spurs and Newcastle off, they always bite.

There is absolutely no need to justify Wilder to this prick.

Can you imagine the Madkins interview after that, in the arena etc etc of nonsense (I know we wouldn’t be in the Prem with Madkins!!). We are so fortunate to have this guy as our manager. Absolutely spot on ;)

I remember when Moyes was at Man U and kept defending his players. It got to the point where me and my mates were laughing at him as he defended inept performance after inept performance.

I’ve been thinking about Sawyer calling Wilder a dinosaur. It doesn’t make sense. The dinosaur approach would be to defend your players no matter what. Like Fergie did thirty years ago.

Just heard the last bit on way home.

Didn't hear it all but possibly disgraceful.

We know it's a WUM station but what I heard was linking it to mental health and saying a manager has a responsibility to that person's wellbeing.

Don't what the PL contracts are around media duties to Talksport but I'd seriously tell them to fuck off if we can.

Crossed a line what I heard.

Absolutely. These 'pundits' like to think they know everything when the reality is they know fuck all. 'Deanogate' no more cost us the game on Saturday than Fleck's/Leon's/McBurnie's 'misses' or Sharp being stupidly suspended.

We're doing fine - regardless of the experts' opinions.

Verrips future is down to EUFA surely?

We clearance that we can sign him permanently.

Fuckin idiot Sawyer, first thing Klopp did after the game was hand his It UEFA award over to the bloke who deserves it.

And on another note, without turning all Wednesday, La Liga, pub league etc. I'm finding large parts of Quest's Championship pathetic - the standard of play that is. Derby v Birmingham and Charlton v Leeds (four of the better teams) were near Endcliffe Park in their hilarity. No wonder Wednesday pick up the odd point.

This. That’s what we’re about. Hard working, high standards and don’t come here if you need swaddling and being told you’re wonderful. If you f*ck up you’ll get a kicking from the family. Doesn’t mean we don’t love you any more, just that you need to fess up and make sure you put things reight- it’s Yorkshire ffs! That said, of course man management is about knowing who needs a kicking to get them going and who needs an arm round the shoulder. I have absolute confidence that CW knows what works for every member of this squad.

Slow weekend for TalkSport. Spurs didn’t lose. Man Utd haven’t played yet. Nothing else much to report on, so make a story out of old school, dinosaur, youngster bullying Wilder’s comments.

Odd how his "old school management" has got us here in three years whilst most of the actual dinosaurs continually sucked up to by the media when it suits are failing miserably or out of work.

Usual radio "differing opinion between the presenters" dialbait.

Silly cow.

Utterly bizarre the OTT reaction to Wilder.

It's that ridiculous I'm half expecting Blackwell to be quoted about it criticising managers who don't treat players very well 😆
