Worst performance of the season? Sorry but I think you have to judge the quality of a performance on the quality of the opposition, not on how many shots or how much position we had. Everton have been virtually unbeatable at home in the Premier League for over a year and we’ve just battled (‘cus battling was the only way we’d get anything at this stage) to a fantastic 2-0 win. We couldn’t play any other way and get points with what we’ve got right now.
If we don’t have a single shot against Liverpool next week and still scrape a draw it will still be an outstanding performance because nobody else has even got a point off them yet, and if that means playing scruffy so be it. It means we’ve got alternative ways to play. I think today’s performance was pretty much perfect. Not pretty but perfect.
Everton have a phenomenal home record, sure, but they're also not particularly high on confidence and there's lots of unrest/apathy among their supporters at the moment.
It's a great result, but we offered very little going forward. Even against Liverpool/City, pretty much every team in the league will have one or two chances per half of football. Not necessarily good chances, but at least a sniff at goal.
Our first goal was an own goal (after a fantastic delivery from Norwood), and was the only threat we offered in the first half. We didn't have a shot, of any quality, on or off target, until after the 70th minute.
Don't get me wrong, it was a very strong performance from a defensive perspective, and an absolutely brilliant result, and our second goal was a great one. But other than that one (well-created and well-taken) chance, I thought we looked pretty impotent offensively, more so than in any of our other games. And I don't think Everton are as good as Leicester or Chelsea, and I'm not too convinced they're much better than Bournemouth or Southampton at present, either
