We got the trifecta:

Those plans were drawn up in 2007 for a World Cup bid that failed. Why would anybody want to go ahead with 12 year old plans rather than looking again at what could be done? As I've said several times now, the old Kop rump is outdated and not fit for purpose, so any sensible redevelopment must be of the whole stand rather than some Meccano bolt on.

United have renewed the planning permission for the kop about three times since the original plans were drawn up and it is still current. It could start tomorrow if necessary and would take about 6 months to build with minimum effect on current operations. Your "sensible" suggestion would shut the kop down for about 2 years. (Don't forget you have to knock the old one down first and find somewhere to dump the waste from the spoil heap it is built on). Capacity would be reduced by 11k for 2 years just when we are trying to establish ourselves in the premier league. Brilliant suggestion you muppet!

Nice try swerving around the BLLT redevelopment. It was finished years before the Westfield corner. We had 3 sides 20 years after the SS was built and it is this I was referring to. (Are you sure you went to the matches, it really wasn't difficult to notice the fucking great hole where the old stand used to be!) It was also this you was referring to when you made the daft comment that McDonald could have signed a player to get us promoted instead of building a new stand.

For once you are correct in that it would take longer and we'd lose the whole Kop, but ultimately we would finish up with a stand fit for the 21st century. You seem unduly fixated with planning permission for the bolt on, which would still leave the existing Kop as arguably one of the worst stands on the Premier League. That seems very Little Sheffielder thinking to me.

After leaving school in 1979 until the mid 1980s I played football on Saturday afternoons, I think I attended about 5 or 6 home games during the 1980-81 season. I was at the 2 midweek home games in April (2-0 win against Chester and 2-1 defeat against Fulham). I was confident that we would avoid relegation and I decided to play in a 6 a side tournament at Manchester on the same day we were at home to Walsall. After the 6 a side tournament I went to the town centre to buy the Pink Final, it was a big shock to me when I discovered that we lost to Walsall and that the other results went against us. In the next day my dad told me that he went to the match and he felt that we gave away the penalty to Walsall on purpose and that Givens missed his penalty on purpose too!

I posted a link on Sunday to Liverpool's new stand costing £75m (just for the building work), to seat 8,500. Our Kop extension is about half this size and much less grandiose but will of course incur many of the same project fixed costs. On that basis, I'd assume something in the region of £20-35m for our Kop extension but I'm sure Mr Angry will come on here to 'prove' it is less than £10m by using lots of insults and a fair bit of bad language.

That's fair enough. I didnt spend 40 years in construction, so I'm not going to tell you that you're wrong. I'd still be personally quite amazed if it was built for less than £10m though.

I seem to remember McCabe saying the Kop would cost about £20m (or was that for the South Stand extension as well?) to build when the plans were proposed. He also said he would fund it I think but that was in order to have the ground chosen for the World Cup.

A stand for 4,000 people using hundreds of tonnes of steel and massive reinforcement of the existing Kop rear bank is like a conservatory on a house?

Liverpool extended an existing stand without closing it.
We plan to do the same, on a slightly smaller scale.
