By no means do I want to sound negative but can anyone explain what the assist from Freeman was?

Seen the goal so many times and now I’m left with more questions than answers.

Under hit shot or over hit cross.?

I’m edging towards under hit shot.

Either way beautiful build up play..in safe hands if Fleck is out for a period

He was passing it into the bottom corner. A sign of real quality and composure.

Slightly lower quality is the fact that, like McGoldrick's second very difficult chance last week, if you aim at the bottom corner and hit the ball with the inside of your foot it will start on target........we all get excited.....till it swerves just past the post ☹. This beautifully composed and assured pass into the bottom corner was going wide.

Always amazes me how often professionals, even at the highest level do this.

I reckon Knilly (and Billy) should be coaching it out of these nippers.

I think it was a shot and it was a good effort to be fair. Nice little push along the grass to the far corner, unexpected and gave Guaita trouble.

This. He knew exactly what he was doing, a sort of 'cross-shot' which a keeper wouldn't be likely to hold onto so thus might fall to an attacking player. He placed the shot rather than powering it which made it harder for the keeper to parry away.

From this position, a pass would have been lucky to reach Robinson in the middle. Freeman has probably seen that the pass has been blocked, and gone for the shot, knowing that if he hits it low and with enough power, the worst case scenario is that the keeper has to parry it away.

A low cross in front of the defender would have to be hit at pace, and would probably zip too far in front of Robinson. If played too softly, and managed to get past the defender, I reckon the keeper intercepts.

I haven’t kicked a ball in a long time but my recollection is that if you hit it with your instep, you curl it inside the post, if you slide your foot along the ball to put spin on it. Personally I’d have given it laces towards the side netting, across the keeper. (In my head, in real life I’d have miskicked it and fallen over).

Also, Palace were using new rule as a tactic. Playing 1- 2's off the ref and gaining a free kick.
Ref didn't twig, quite poor all game.

Neither. Both. Either.

You get in those positions you put it across the keeper towards the back post. As long as you don't hit it straight at the keeper you've a fair chance of it going in, another player getting a foot to it, or what did happen which is that the keeper gets a touch but he can't help it going back into danger.

If I'm forced to pick then it doesn't look like a shot given the power he puts in it.

Like a few others on here, I genuinely reckon it was more a desire to put the ball in a dangerous spot. If you look at the image, there's no chance a straight pass makes it to Robinson. I also don't think Freeman necessarily fancies his chances of scoring, otherwise he'd have laced it. Best thing to do in that situation is stick it in a position where the keeper has to make a play on it.
