I'd assume that he doesn't feel that it's worth the risk anymore, and the guy isn't even Irish anyway.

He must realise he can achieve much more with the Blades than he ever could with NI.
He has waited a long time for this opportunity, so why risk injury.
Selfishly, I wish all our internationals would do the same, and just follow the guidance they get from CWAK.
McBurnie for instance, will learn nothing of value from the coaches in Scotland, and just gets abuse from the fans.

Mentioned on another thread but I think this deserves its own discussion. Ollie Norwood has retired from International football stating he wishes to focus on club football.

Micheal O'Neill stated “I think he is making a huge mistake. He is only 28 and I’ve no doubt he could have continued to play club and international football for many years,”

I get it if I'm being honest, when he was playing in the Championship, to be given the opportunity to play against the best in the world would be beneficial to his game, but now he'll be playing in the prem every week, he doesn't need it.

Although I do think it's a shame, the opportunity to represent your country should be an honour, not sure how much of an affinity he has to Northern Ireland though.

Seems early to retire at 28, though maybe he's thinking that the run NI had at the Euros is the most he's ever going to achieve internationally and now he's finally made it to the PL wants to prolong his playing career as long as possible.

Although its sad for NI, it's probably good for us and he will be fresher for th rest during international breaks. It can only prolong his career as well.

Say for example he had retired and then was called up for NI but refused. Could be be suspended from football?

Can understood it though. I've no idea how much affiliation he has to the country being born and bred here but after reaching the Prem twice before and being cast aside, he maybe now wants to make the most of this opportunity without outside risks.

He’s not daft. He’s seen players on the bench and thought ‘if I’m not on it every game I’ll lose my place in the team’. He’s probably only got four years of playing at PL level, effectively one more decent contract.
