The furore over Sophie Jones racist behaviour just been on.....

"Take Raheem Sterling, for example. He's out there as a bit of an advocate to fight racism against football, but it shouldn't just be him.

Well he's a bit of a crap advocate considering what the owners of his employers have done/enabled/overlooked to people of colour and others.

This is no secret. If he wants to make a proper statement he can condemn Sheik Mansour and/or hand in a transfer request/go on strike. Somewhat doubt that will happen. Colin Kapernick took the knee, would be great if Sterling did something similar. But then he might actually risk losing something.

As for Sophie Jones.... there is much more to come out on that I'm sure. I wonder what support she is being given? And yes from the outside it did look like there was minimal evidence. In fact it looks very similar to this:

Clattenburg didn't even get charged.

Here is the link the OP is referring to:

Our women's team will only have to win the Champions League 10 times in a row to re-balance the bad publicity.

Cheers Bladesman wasn't she accused of abusing the Spurs lass, and United ended her contract when found guilty.

Yep and no longer involved in football. Maintained her innocence on the clip. Things get so out of hand nowadays.

I do remember this just not her name but it just goes to highlight the fact that if you are a mega rich PL player, and you racially abuse another player you can get off. The thing you do is hire best lawyer money can buy, now this lass couldn't afford that (doesn't exonerate her) but, just shows that dirt can be swept under the carpet with the right amount of money.

No idea if she is genuinely guilty or not and that's having spoken to one of her former team mates.

However, despite a lack of clear evidence she has been effectively kicked out of the game whilst John Terry's obvious guilt got him a short ban, irrelevant fine for him, and shitloads of support from fellow black players.

Money talks.

Davalon I think they are called witch hunts mate I agree with all you say.

People who don't like to see injustice care.
I don't know if 'monkey noises' were made, I suspect not given that it was supposedly made towards a player who wasn't making the grade on the day and has since proven not to have been good enough but now has the excuse of being depressed and having received hate mail. Really? Hate mail, you must have loads of evidence to present to the police, I've heard they take a grim view of racism (or anything else where you can do their job for them by presenting them with evidence). On the flimsiest of cases, one player and one team mate 'heard' the noises and have sent somebody else to the wall for it. The FA found Jones guilty on the say so of 2 people, team mates, none of the other 20 players on the pitch heard anything or any of the match officials or any of the bystanders. Maybe the noises were made but I have trouble believing it.

Unpopular opinion.

Racist comments are bad, but physical violence for whatever reason is worse.

You can bite a guy, and punch him in the face and you'll get banned for a few games. Call someone a mildly offence name that relates to the colour of their skin and you're done.

If she'd kept her mouth shut and instead knocked a few of her teeth out, she'd still be playing.

What a time to be alive.

True enough but the point is, Jones probably didn't say anything and there is no evidence, unlike with assault. However an accusation of racism appears to be one of those things where the person being accused suffers trial by media before any real case. I can't remember who posted it (I thought it was Foxy but I've done a search and couldn't find the comment I was looking for), that there had been a fair amount of comments and mirth in the direction of the player in question but it was all about how poor a player she was and nothing else.

She was found guilty using circumstantial evidence, there was no real evidence apart from testimonies of players who were near by.
So in a court of law it would have been thrown out, not enough evidence to prove guilt.

This makes it sound like a witch hunt however apparently at the tribunal Jones gave a different version of events from what she gave in her original statement.
The tribunal used the logic that the Spurs ladies consistently gave the same account of their version of events
Where as because Jones changed her story they must have lost faith that it was the truth.
They do say liars need to have good memories and she must have forgotten what she said in her original testimony.

On the balance of probabilities they believe that a racist incident did occur, so they found her guilty.
Remember this is not a court of law, so they can make what ever decision they want as long as they centre justify it,
Also believe it was 2 Spurs ladies who heard the incident against the word of 1 Sheff Utd woman.

It does make you wonder if she’s entitled to some compensation because the decision regards being found guilty has really damaged her life
and there’s no real evidence that this happened. John Terry had a similar situation where he was also found guilty of a racist comment but it doesn’t seem to have effected his career in the same way.

This report states the Spurs players contradicted each other and that 10 statements were taken from others who were there saying nothing was heard.

This report includes what you may be referring to in that Jones changed her statement; she did not, she gave an alternative reason for making noises which were supposedly used to disguise any 'monkey noises'.

Oddly enough without the link in the previous thread on this, the Sky reports on this are difficult to find but in one of them there is a statement that the FA will publish there report on this case in due course. Why the verdict was not published at the time the verdict was given is a mystery.

Strange that it made local let alone national news.

It’s not that racism doesn’t deserve to be in the headlines, but would this really have made the news if it took place in a men’s game of similar national importance - league 2 or conference for example.

I think the club has treated Jones very shabbily this sounds a bit like the Forestfairy story he was not charged by the police yet the FA find him guilty enough for a 6 match ban. Seems to me like the FA are trying to make examples of people so they can say they are taking steps to kick out racism. The difference here is this lass who played for us probably doesn't have the money to fight her case.
A stark difference to when we were doing everything we could to back Ched Evans, cancelling the lasses contract on such flimsy evidence don't sit too well with me.
