Aye
Not seen any criticism of Didsy for "missing" those opportunities (although 12 months ago would have been a different story!)
Were they great chances???

One was from the angle about 20 yards out which was just a half chance, the other was on the stretch trying to dink the keeper with a defender sticking his leg in. Again a half chance.

Lundstram was very good yesterday but can’t hide away from the fact we looked far more threatening going forward and fluent in moving the ball through the thirds when we had L Freeman on the pitch

Lundstram has the unfortunate baggage of coming with the ‘flat 3’ that everyone (including me) worry about. I really don’t understand this attempt to rub the noses in it of those that were concerned about that system and his inclusion. We equalised, and looked more fluid when he was substituted and the formation was switched. Doesn’t that give some validity to the concerns??

Aye - also comes with the additional "baggage" of playing ' instead of Duffy, & afore that ' replacing' Coutts
As noted above, the gaffer(s) choose the tactics / pick the team (& squad) - Yesti they felt JL was the best option to start - I ((& I guess they) will live with throwing away 2 points @ Bournemouth

Indeed - which in essence was / is my point
(Although I reckon he could (should?) have done better with the 1st opportunity & may well have done if it came later in the game

Norwood was our best midfielder but The Stram was a decent, steady 7/10. Didn't do anything I wouldn't expect him to do.

His improved athleticism makes him a useful, viable option if we must play a flat 3, and yesterday we restricted Bournemouth well.

But the performance after the attacking changes was unrecognisable from the performance before them. I know we were chasing the game then but to me it only confirmed and highlighted how winnable that game was had we started with a more attacking line up..... or not conceded right when we did - although whether we'd have gone for it at 0-0 is another question.

The first chance wasn’t half as easy as you’re making out. The second wasn’t really a chance like I’ve said.

Thought Lunny had a very decent game today BUT when we settled into the division I still prefer us to play with a number 10 against the average teams, even away from home. There will be the few exceptions but it’s what makes us tick

Totally agree except that I thought Norwood wasn’t that good first half. He was rushing his passing but grew into the game and started to show glimpses of what he’s all about second half

One thing now with The Stram, is that we have more of an asset who we shouldn't lose money on.

He's a PL starter now and that's it.

Before this season he was a 700k signing who nobody would have given us near that amount for.

Everyone should also remember it was a very strong wind and that makes perfect football/passing difficult as anyone who has played in Concord Park, Ringinglow or the Loxley valley will know!

What are you basing that on? We managed to make a profit on Leonard having done absolutely nothing for us. I don’t know why you think Lundstram’s value would have dipped – £700k for a championship side is nothing in today’s market, and had we sold him in the summer at the absolute worst I think we’d have made our money back.

Last year of his contract. Never made an impact in the league. Not excelled in any part of the game and found his role.

Lee Evans was relatively proven. But I doubt anyone but his former club Wigan would have taken him.

No one but Millwall would have taken Leonard. He was a previous target of theirs.

Who would have paid 700k+ for Stram?

Indeed (again)
My (original) 'point' ( a la the thread title) was that some players attract criticism ( or fewer 'accolades) for little apparent logical reason - indeed some (many?) progress from being doubted (or worse) to being (rightly) lauded - hence the reference to D McG - another (obvious) reference point being Leon and even your good self (following THAT goal @ the sty)
Equally some are rarely (never ?) appreciated in (many) 'fans' eyes ( most obvious recentish example being Montgomery) possibly / probably 'cos they don't (can't) do owt ' flash' let alone net !
Interesting that Cotterill mentioned above - I always thought there was a player in there but (it seemed to me) that the crowd never took to him (DavidWhite being another?)

Played very well, however how much more did we look like our old selves when Freeman came on and started linking the play again.

At home Freeman has to play for me as that’s where we have to pick up points.

I thought that yesterday
Would be worth five ,six times that now ?

I thought Lundstram was ok today no worse than anyone else in midfield, created two good chances and one Kozluk like cross into the crowd. I realy don't understand why some fans slag him off, some were at it before a ball had been kicked.
I wouldn't be moaning at anyone after today's game remember more than half the team were playing their first ever game at Premier League level, bound to be a few nerves on show but I think CW called it right we kept it solid and grew into the game against a team who for the last few years have been comfortable around mid table.

Reckon there's a new noun to rival Panenka

The Kozluk ?

Without knowing which clubs are looking for a reasonable allrounder with the potential to improve I’m not sure how I can answer that. He’s shown in that division that he can score goals, tackle effectively, pass well, and was a captain at his previous club. I’m sure if he had been made available there would have been interest from that League from teams looking for a reasonable option for their squad.

I don’t know who is looking for a backup left-sided defender either, but I imagine if we made Bryan available there would be interest from the league below, despite him not making an impact with us.

Got to remember that when Lundstram signed and played a few for us post Coutts we were ultimately a mid table team.

Since then he might have improved, but he's barely played, got older and his contract's ran down.

I don't think the sort of clubs who might be interested in him tend to spend that sort of money easily on players like him.

That is what people were pointing out before the match. It isn't a case of Lundstram being shit, its more a case we can't quite play the way we want to when he is in the team.

Although I questioned his starting place, the ball he played up to Didsy was top class and a shame that didn't lead to a goal.

B-but S2 told me he was worse than Hammond! Surely you can't be LYING to me!

Watched a replay of the game earlier. It confirmed what the stats and my first view of the game indicated. Lundstram was the best of the midfield three both in and out of possession. Fleck was steady, Norwood improved in the second half after being anonymous in the first. Lundstram proved the lie that is the 'lack of technical ability' schtick he seems to have attracted with the three best passes of the match. I do agree that at times he slows the forward transition down and plays too safe.Sometimes it's a lack of ambition; other times it's a lack of mobility that reduces the time he has on the ball meaning options have reduced. There are worse things than keeping the ball in football though. I also prefer to play with a ten, but I think it's horses for courses in the premier league

I look at it this way. Not happy with his selection. However, for once was played in the position that suited him in a slightly changed system. Didn't screw up, wasn't embarrassed, did a job apart from daft shots. Nothing to get upset about. Has promise in a particular system which doesn't involve 10's and fast transition. Keep and see how we get on. May turn out to be valuable. May not. Bit in paper.

Yep I admit to being a lundstram knocker ahead of the game based on what I saw of the first half versus Stade with that midfield trio. Both villa and Norwich widely criticised for their naevity in midfield and guess what it was wilders tactical nouse that got us the best result this weekend with lundstram contibuting very significantly to our defensive solidity. Those three key forward passes show what else he can do. Mental note It's unwise to get on the back of wilders selections - think of the improvement in Stevens - maybe Lunnywill be the same. GLTTL.

Credit to you for looking at the evidence and revising your opinion.

A few of us were saying in autumn 2017 that he's a decent player, but most people just jumped on the Lunny scapegoat bandwagon becasue he wasn't Paul Coutts.

He is not Messi but he is a decent midfielder with a range of passing. He will play a part in 20-30 games and will be part of the reason why we stay up.
In this league it is a squad game and he is a key member, so anyone who singles him out (or another player) is being wrong headed.

We need 11 players doing it every game and he will be one of these.

Lunny made the best two chances of the match for me both over the top for goldi to run on to maybe a better finisher and we are 2 up

Couldn't agree more. That's been the gist of my gripes with all the wrist slashes at 2pm last Saturday. Lunny is not Coutts (but Coutts is not Lunny). From the moment Coutts got injured and Lunny had a more prominent role in the team, the knockers had found a new scapegoat!

Give opinions by all means, but jeeeees the drama queens on here sometimes 🙄
