Lundstram

I thought I til we changed it late on and played our normal system none of the midfield shone but lundstram certainly did a lot more than the other two
Once we changed shape it just looked like us again where the entire team is the midfield and fleck and Norwood got more involved then

Thought he played well. His performance seems like its under a microscope lately which i feel is a little unfair.

For example Fleck over hit at least 1 cross.

Norwood hit 2 corners to 1st man and over hit at least 1 cross.

Appreciate Norwood and Fleck have a better history but still.

The lad did well today.

United's crossing is rubbish and has been for a while. A bit of after hours practice to put that right and we'll be the real deal in the premiership.

Apparently he didn’t start one game last season (I may be wrong) so what has changed? Our game is press and push forward with speed but ‘for me’ Lundstram disrupted the flow, Norwood is doing the midfield holding roll so it’s a no brainier, Freeman to start every time! The wingbacks, difference, and forwards did well, midfield was moderate.
You can say it’s a good point and it is. CW said we decided on a safer formation, it’s early days but we should have won that game.

The system is key. We can’t play all 3 of: Fleck, Norwood and Lundstram. We have to play only 2.... and the fact is, the other 2 are better. So lundstram just shouldn’t be starting.

I personally don’t rate Lundstram at all, but I think he has to go with 3-4-1-2 instead of 3-5-2 in every game. We are just such a better team when we do.

Would keep the same team but Freeman in for a lundstram next game.

We saw the good and not so good of both Lunny and the flat midfield three.

Lunny played okay. Some cracking through balls and always showed for it, but he does seem averse to take a risk a lot of the time and slowed us down more than once. Some solid defensive contributions. Nowhere near deserving of the slashing he was getting before the match, which was ridiculous.

Having three in the middle shut down the midfield and forced Bournemouth to go long. After we got caught napping a couple of times early doors, we looked untroubled. That's why Wilder played the flat three--he knows what he's doing! But it definitely also forced us to go more direct, too, and we will be more fluid with someone in the no. 10 role. We just have to find the balance for each different game.

I hope there was enough blood in Sheffield for all the transfusions that were needed at 2pm when all the know nowts on here had slashed their wrists. Well done Lunny and excellent tactics Tufty 👍
Proves my earlier point! Certain players (Montgomery etc) can get away with owt if they do one or two things in a game!

All the know nowts who might actually no more than the clap owts

I wouldn’t rate any of the Midfield 3 that started above a 6/10 Today

Freeman looked lively in his cameo. Quick feet and few tricks up his sleeve.

Great to have so many options that all offer something different. Shows how strong our Recruitment has been during the Summer. Looking forward to seeing Ravel and Mousset in the Squad too once they’re Match-Fit

Surprised at the lack of appreciation for our spot on tactics. We denied them space to run into and limited them to very few chances. Lundstram was a very effective part of that.

We also showed we have the ability to create chances at this level. A great start to the season!

lunny tracked quite a few runners today and put in a couple of challenges in our box as a result. Would Freeman have made those same defensive runs?

Perhaps Lunny is doing some of that unseen work that many managers admirebut that fans aren't interested in .

Freeman definitely adds something going forward though and Besic still has to stake a claim. There could be plenty of horses for courses this year

Yeah but Fleck and Norwood were doing that too, and it didn't lead to them breaking on us.

The turnover is one of the most dangerous things in the Prem, need to have it happen as little as possible.

Lack of concentration today.

Cross was too high for McGoldrick but he just stood and watched after he landed back on his feet.

Can't afford to stand and stare at this level, every minute and second needs to be competed for.

Bloody well done today overall, could and should have won.

Find this amusing. You do realise we were losing when Lundstram went off, right?! The reason we got a point out of the game was because we reverted back to the tried and tested system. Let's not make out it was due to a masterstroke of starting Lundstram.

That's way too sensible.

And the reason we looked more effective going forward when Freeman came on? We were chasing the game for an equaliser at 1-0 down.

Bloody hell, we have got some analysis on here already. I was out all afternoon and was just very happy to hear we had got a point, deserved a point and Billy got the goal. Believe it or not, not every player will do everything right and play a faultless game. I am happy to let the manager decide what he thinks is best. His analysis is what counts. After all, he hasn't done too bad so far.

If we hadn’t equalised this thread would be full of criticism, the fact that we did (whilst he was off the pitch) masks how limited he is....he isn’t good enough, end of.

It was visible -- he created clear goalscoring chances. Wilder will be delighted with Lunny

“If we’d played the substitutes at kick off we would have won.” Is a few comments I‘ve seen.
Hang about though, the game is cut and thrust and needs the brain of tactics to to adapt. Just like a boxer who fights and jabs, blocks and wears down the opponent, and the in the ninth round, delivers a left hook and knocks the other guy out - you can’t just say to him, “why didn’t you just deliver the left hook in the first round, and you would have won.”
I believe the secret to winning / staying up / getting promoted is that the players listen to Wilder’s instructions and he has a specific plan. From Duff’s tweets, we know that Lenny is top of the sprint league, so we have to think if he can move forward at such pace, why he “passes back”. We also know that Wilder doesn’t take prisoners and players who are out of step are out the door.
It would seem incredulous to think that Wilder has told Lenny to move it forward, but he keeps ignoring the instructions, and yet he still gets picked. There’s Only two reasons:
1) Lunny has photos of Wilder and he’s blackmailing him
2) Lunny is doing what he’s been told to do
Regarding the game, it was the first time in the Prem, and we could have got smashed and over run, Wilder wants 60 mins for the player’s heart rate to settle down, told Lunny to be a calming midfield player, and allow Norwood to expand. After the goal went in, Wilder adds a few players and totally changes our play, and put Bournemouth on the back foot, Billy scoring and Freeman changing the game.
Lunny did the job he was told to do. I’m not saying we won’t drop him as the season goers on, but Lunny did the job he was told to do.

Will do a job as the Monty for the season. At least his 2nd touch isn’t always a 40:60 tackle though.

I’m hoping Besic does the same but better when he’s fit but I’m not going down the route of scapegoating Lundstram this season though. Call him out for a shit game if he has one but today isn’t that day.

Out of all the promoted teams who has had the best weekend so far......h'mmmmmmm piggies no...they havn't been promoted in god knows how long, delias oven...got shafted in a pool.......villa in rome........had the spurs kicked out of them......a pair of sharp knives.....h'mmmm...created more chances, a bit of a slight mishap goal conceded, stood their ground....ohhh and sommat happened with a lard arse.......

Granted but give me Fleck or Norwood any day of the week

Let's hope Fleck improves again ...but not sure he will ...think Osborn and Besic will push him for a start soon ...which can only be a good thing ..all round
