just looking back, can any other team be has unlucky has us,way back 1949/50 season, 1 was14years old and that lot at the other side of the city got promoted with spurs spurs champions we were level on points with wednesday but they had .008 difference on goal differance not one goal but .008 of a goal. and they say we are lucky, anyhow the new season is here now and we dont have to play them up the blades

Can only assume that this was the greatest generation's equivalent of 2011/12.Screen Shot 2019-08-06 at 16.00.42.png

I.m sure that hearts missed out on the title once in goal average. They were one of the leading proponents of changing to goal difference. Unfortunately they subsequently lost the title on goal difference when they would have won under the old system

Think one of the people who either came up with the idea of play offs or who played a big role in making them happen was a Brentford fan - Brentford have subsequently lost nearly as many play offs as ours but have also finished in 3rd place several times - missing out on promotion thanks to the play offs!

Presumably the play offs were part of Brentfords business model :D.

We wouldn't the Goal Difference for both teams was 19?

We scored more goals 68 to 67, so we'd have gone up
We could also include our season in Division Three in 1980-81, if the three points for a win rule had come in a season earlier we'd have stayed up
1994 relegation from the Premier League when every team in the division conspired at half time to save Everton, including ourselves.
Tevez in 2007
The Ched Evans saga, especially when he was found not guilty

We've had more than our share of barely believable things happen to us

We did benefit from Burnley v Hull City though, Hull needing to win by three goals and only winning 2-0
In typical United heart attack fashion though Hull we're 2-0 up after about 15 minutes. Even a game we're not involved in can cause severe stress.

No. Goal difference. If the goal differences are equal then the team which has scored most goals has the advantage.
No it would be goals scored? If teams are equal on points then the team which has the highest goal difference has the advantage? You would say promoted on goal difference. So in an example where goals scored is used to separated the teams you would say promoted on goals scored.

Bloody hell - how close was that?
Pigs scored 67 and we scored 68, so +1 to us
Pigs conceded 48 and we conceded 49, so -1 on us.
But
Blades 68/49 = 1.388
Pigs 67/48 = 1.396
The fecking lucky bastards.

One fecking goal in it - again !!

They played Spurs at Hillsborough their last game of season, only needing a win or draw. All this a week after Blades last game and probably Southampton's who were in third place on same number of points as Blades. Wed*****y point behind in fourth. Despite just having moved into junior school at that time remember talk by attending Blades, family and friends etc., how Spurs did every thing not to score and more or less laid down to enable their promotion. Final score was 0-0, Spurs winning league by 8-10 points they were that much better than the rest.

Does that mean relegation for us and promotion for them? Come on HBT your better than that, we must all BELIEVE. Rightly or wrongly my water tells me Blades are on the cusp of something good, away with the superstition.:)

Everyone misses the point (pardon the "pun") - based on today's rules we would have finished on 71 points, Southampton on 71 points, and Wendy on 70 points. Blades goal difference +19, Southampton +16
So -Blades 2nd; Southampton 3rd, and Wendy 4th

I don't do superstition, but the 2007 relegation spooked me. We need to stay up this season so I can die a happy man...
Promotion for Wednesday is not part of the curse ... so far!

No, I didn't miss the point since the rules were goal average in those days and, as the calculations show, it was down to one more goal conceded or to one more goal scored.
I get your point about the 3 points for a win but that was irrelevant - since it was then and not now

A scoredraw between Wendy and Spurs would mean we would have gone up.

I was 10 at the time but remember it well. I still bear the mental scars...

In 1967-8 and 1978-9 seasons we got relegated after looking pretty well set for safety. Particularly in 1967-8. Three of our last four games were at home. We lost all three, including one against already relegated Fulham where we threw away a two goal lead. And in the final game against Chelsea we lost after being a goal up. Obviously practising for 1993-4!

Talkin about luck how the fuck have they got 5-7 mill for joao? Looks like Rhodes is on his way as well, got a bit of money now for hector
Cunts!
