I imagine the intention is up front with Oli, with Robbo roaming behind. It’s a bit early to write him off isn’t it? Well, ludicrously early, in fact.

Hmm......a little concerned were my words, not writing him off in any way. But hey, if you want to twist it, go ahead.

Some signings, but surely not every signing is a replacement? That's a strange way to look at it.

He improves our team, and our starting 11 in that he provides proper competition unlike Marvin who was more of a last resort, but why would anyone replace a player like Stevens, regularly our best player, who has been promoted to the premier league, showing his ability, with a player who hasn't?

Osborn is a good player but behind Enda for now.

Tottenham didn't bin Harry Kane off when they bought Moura, he's backup, competition and a strike partner.
How many times have you seen Osborn play?

You seem to take a bit of a defeatist viewpoint. The aim of a signing is to improve the team.

They're not doing that during the 80% of matches they're sat on the bench.

Wilder will be wanting all his additions to play big parts in the season.

Once with Sabbath and once solo.

Twice.

I've seen Enda play about 100 times and in the majority of them he was among the best players, particularly last season.

I think the signing will improve the team, I said that, but he won't replace Enda.

A quality backup who can be first choice, not a replacement.

Don't think it's defeatist in anyway, don't know how you've got to that.

You augment your team to get the best out of your players. Pressure in training, players raising their game, like 30+ year old Mark Duffy keeping wunderkind David Brooks out of our team.

I wouldn't sign "number twos", they have to have the potential to push someone out of the team, but it's not often you sign "number ones" unless a player has left, like Wesley for Abraham at Villa for example.

£10 million Mousset........where is he going to fit in? I think he's the only new signing that concerns me a little.
Never, in the field of ( actual non ) conflict ... etc etc

Give the bloke a chance.

Apparently I'm the only person who thinks Lundstram will start. Not saying he should (nor shouldn't), but if Wilder didn't intend to start Lundstram against Bournemouth, why has he consistently started him (over Freeman) in pre-season?

Henderson
Baldock
Basham
Egan
O'Connell (Stevens if JOC isn't fit)
Stevens (Osborn of JOC isn't fit)
Lundstram
Norwood
Fleck
McGoldrick
Robinson

Freeman starting over Lundstram would be more exciting, but I'm not convinced that's the plan. Still, if I'm right, I think Lunny will perform a lot perform a lot better than most expect him to, I think we'll get something from the game, and I think the response to his selection will drastically differ before and after the game.

You win the prize for managing to come up with a team which would be a downgrade on last season's. Put that out and it would be lambs to the slaughter.

OK, so I'll repeat my question - why has Wilder been consistently starting Lundstram in pre-season if he doesn't intend to start him vs Bournemouth?

I’d also quite like to see how this works. And assuming that JOC remains injured (or transferred !).

Hendo

Baldy. Jags Egan Bryan Enda

Ravel. Norwood Fleck
Dids
Robbo.

My answer has more to do with the 11 you named rather than just one man. From last season's championship winning side you're basically replacing Duffy with Lundstram and Sharp with Robinson. The upgrade to the latter is nowhere near the downgrade to the former. Therefore on paper alone your team is weaker than last season's.

Keep our shape.

Standard strongest team from last season but with Robinson in the Duffy role and McBurnie up front with Billy.

If it's not working after the first couple of games offer Duffy a new contract, double his wages, get down on your knees and beg for his forgiveness.

Okay, but apart from Lundstram, I think all of my selections were pretty obvious. Unchanged back 5 is likely. Norwood and Fleck will pay. Robinson and McGoldrick are both expected to play. McBurnie will be a key player, but he's only just joined so probably won't start yet. Mousset isn't fit. Morrison is getting there.

So it's between Lundstram, Freeman and Sharp for the last spot. I'd like to pick Billy, but starting with 3 forward, even if Robinson and McGoldrick drop deeper, seems quite risky. I'd like to pick Freeman, but he hasn't had too many starts in pre-season. So I think Lundstram is the most likely to play on Saturday - hopefully he surprises people

Hendo
Baldock Bash Egan JOC Enda
Norwood Fleck Robinson
Sharp McGoldrick

Until proved otherwise, I still think Sharp and McGoldrick are the best partnership upfront.

Another downgrade on last season. All you've managed to do there is put a striker out of position into Duffy's slot.

I'm thinking mcburnie and Robinson up front. Carnt be bothered to go through the rest. Just hoping Freeman starts and not lunny

If Lundstr*m doesn't start I think Wilder will go with McBurnie. With Robinson and McGoldrick, obviously.

Would like to see that.

If we assume that JOC and Mousett aren't fit:

Henderson
Baldock, Jags, Egan, Stevens Osborn
Fleck Norwood Freeman
Robinson Sharp

Bench

Moore

McBurnie will be on the bench, in my opinion. He hasn't been with us too long to work with the team..he will be a starter by the end of the month i reckon.

Basham

Morrison,

McGoldrick ( not better than Freeman in that role and Sharp/Robinson have scored more in pre season)

Bryan

Lundstram

so leaving out

Freeman (K)
Stearman
JOC
Mousett
Dewhurst ( 3rd choice keeper)

Looking at this makes me realise we are still short as a squad especially as centre half ( Mason Holgate ?) and central midfield)

CW has always emphasised the importance of the squad rather than the team. The new signings have definitely strengthened the squad.
CWAK will have far more options now to take on the differing challenges the Premiership/injuries will pose.

Note: Not a lover of singling out scapegoats/whipping boys. Especially before the season has even started !!!
In CW we trust. UTB!!!
