Incoming? Kalvin Phillips

He would cost £20m-£25m and I'm not sure he'd get in ahead of Fleck/ Norwood. Expensive back up. Cant see it.

Seriously if people don't think he does anything you're not paying attention or don't understand defensive roles in football

He is the best defensive midfielder in that division by quite a distance

£25 million for Phillips? Seriously?

What price JOC? Think it was Brighton that valued him at £8 mil? Football inflation, the world appears to have turned on it's axis.

I don't dislike Phillips, but he's not shown enough to come anywhere close to the quoted figure. If we're to buy midfield back-up I'd go for Arter, at least he has Prem experience and has impressed in B'mouth's set-up.

Potential innit , thats almost worth more than what a players has already done which is daft.

And is why i think robinson could be the bargain of the century

Or maybe its a case of the Emperors new clothes - people seeing things that arent there. Or in football context, a Dean Hammond.

Sorry, i will gladlu admit to being 'no nowt' in this instance, as i think he is well overrated. If he didnt play for Leeds and played for another middling championship club no one would bat an eye lid at him.

There are other midfielders just as good as a damned site cheaper imo.

Neck on block but he would certainly replace Ollie at some point.

I don't think he would - they're totally different players. Phillips would play as a DM when CW goes with a flatter 3 in midfield, together with Norwood and Fleck. IMO, playing him instead of Norwood would remove a lot of creativity from the side. I must say, considering how much he'd cost, I think there are far better options for Utd's immediate needs.

This. He is perfect for us. Versatile, a bit of a dick and technically sound.

Easily a prem player.

Not a fan of the hair though.

I'm aware that he's a DM, and if we played one, and it looks like we are looking for one, it would be at the expense of Ollie, in my opinion. We may miss his range of passing, but there will be times when we need to protect the defence more, certainly against the better teams.

Agreed. Completely different player to Norwood. He's a quick, strong, athletic player who, given his age, will only improve. Must say whenever I've seen him play I've been impressed with him. He wins the ball and plays it simple, rarely giving it away. Think he'd be a great signing, at the right price!

Who would he replace, if not Norwood?

Whenever CW tries to tighten things up in midfield he reverts to a flatter three at the expense of the attacking midfielder and I can't imagine him doing anything differently next season.

Either way, I don't think we'll get to see what happens in the case of Phillips unless OSL's son left the club and nice gift in his will :-)

Not sure its about replacing anyone, more about giving us stronger options. Wilder's not averse to changing the system, especially away from home this season when we could be on the back foot a little more than we're used to.

I agree, it's pretty much what I said, but he has to replace someone on those occasions, and I suspect Norwood.

I'm so glad that the least interesting football pundit in the world wants us to sign this player
I hope his monotone drone convinces wilder and we sign him
I've been so impressed with his performances for Leeds of doing absolutely fuck all I've brought myself an invisible football to work on my skills
Is 'brought' same as 'bought' but just not paid for it?

Daily Star is saying Tottenham are interested.

Is he really actually that good? I had him pegged as a decent player who'd be a good addition if we could get him for around 10 million.

But with Burnley and Tottenham interested and Leeds wanting 20 mil, maybe he's better than I thought.

Adam Pope got a lot wrong for them, according to my Leeds United supporting mate.

Are you saying those two are irreplaceable? I believe to the contrary. We could improve significantly on both and might come to realise that we have to...

Some of our fans want to spend a fortune on players to improve a team that everyone agreed needed to improve for the Premier League, but then leave them on the bench.

We’ll have to stop clinging on to old favourites or we won’t progress and there will only be one outcome.

I doubt that we will be spending another £20m but if we did then this would be a good way to spend it. He would be the first name on the team sheet in midfield.

He's is the best English ball playing DM after Jordan Henderson and will be in the England team in less than 18 months. He is bound to go for a astronomical fee.

Jordan Henderson is a complete mediocrity at international level. You England fans really ought to accept that playing for your team is not a quality mark.

If the Maupay money is still on the table, why couldn't we use it on a much needed DM instead?

Agree with you on a lot but I think you're wrong here. It's become fashionable to dislike Henderson, but there's a reason why he's a mainstay in the best team in Europe.

Ok, I wasn't necessarily commenting on Englands quality but more the shallowness of players for that specific position/role but if you wanna take that opportunity to pin your flag as you do every-time go ahead. But more importantly Kalvin Phillips is a very good player and that's what i was highlighting.
