Flat 3 in midfield

Would anybody say that was the potential starting line up and formation for Bournemouth?

Don’t rate a footballer = bullying

Fuck me

I don't rate Lundstram, I don't whinge about him/blame for everything at every possible opportunity, that's the difference between not rating him and what is essentially bullying. Unfortunately football fans don't seem to understand that hurling abuse at people for trying their best is never going to benefit anyone.

I just hope we haven’t fallen into the trap of thinking..

“We got a great result at Leeds last season with a flat three in Midfield, that’s the way to go next season”

It isn’t. Leeds was a one off that came off, fortunately in the first half.

We go down that route we will go down.

i’ve posted this before and find myself having to do so again.. our fans can see a weak link a mile off .. it has nothing to do with scapegoating.. if you do your job you are a demi god, if you aren’t pulling your weight you will get abuse .. perhaps we should consider medals for taking part
people won’t stand for players letting the team down .. stop playing crap .. giving the ball away etc.,it will quickly stop

If we play a flat three in midfield we will and up “Lumping it to Olli”.

And everyone will say “we told you so, same old Sheffield”

Stick to the formation and tactics that won us two promotions, it’s our best chance.

We started Last season with a flat 3. It generally doesn’t work. When you play Robinson, mcgoldrick or McBurnie they can drop back in. Not sure why we continue to try this unless wilder is trying to bring in a better version of lundstram and play a flat 3. Freeman please pull your finger out in training this week

He'd not be in my starting 11, but might make the bench.

I think he's done OK in most pre-season games but it is mostly against poor opposition

Makes me happy that we've some on here that know better than CW/AK. If they ever leave we can slot one of em straight in. :)

So as long as they're trying their best (even if not good enough) then we should give them a pat on the back for trying?
If you came into my work and multiple customers told me you werent doing a good job (even if you were trying really hard), i would tell ya to sod off and thats the bottom line.

FFS what a PC cotton wool world we live in these days. no wonder millennials feel so entitled and nothings ever their fault.

Wilder just can't let go of the flat 3 in midfield, usually with Duffy being sacrificed for it. It didn't work last season and won't work this season, our system relies on Duffy or someone like him to play behind the forwards. If he sticks with it we will get relegated, simple as that.

Agree,
I'm not sure a flat 3 will be a roaring success even with a Lundstram replacement. It's the system not the personnel that's the problem, and w
e seem to lose our identity as soon as we switch to it.

The Duffy/Freeman position is what everything good pivots around. We're on the front foot, centre halves are encouraged forward and there's rarely a gap between midfield and attack. If Wilder feels he needs more bite in midfield, I'd rather it be in place of Fleck than the attacking midfielder.

Would we really be any worse defensively with McGoldrick and Robinson playing behind a striker?

More possession. More threat. More outlets. More bodies to defend from the front.

Or are we better with Lundstram hurtling about lunging into tackles he never makes? McGoldrick wins more challenges than him.
He hasn't even tried it ,feels a bit warnocky this pre season
Like everything that made us unique and difficult to play against but yet a joy to watch has been discarded
Without the ACM we are a very average side ,gritty and determined but not much goal threat

It was fortunate. If they could finish they’d have won at a canter.

If at work you have a member of staff that is continuously not good enough, you don't get people at the side hurling abuse at them.

It's entirely different scenarios. Our fans constantly say if they put a shift in, they will get support yet season after season a group of our fans prove that is absolutely not the case.

I think we will play with a flat midfield 3 away from home quite a lot this season.
My hope is the reason for playing Lundstrum preseason is so the players become comfortable with the shape and we will sign someone to replace him in the role next week.

I don’t think anyone’s saying that

What people are doing is questioning the flat 3. It doesn’t work. Stats prove it.

Please god

Surely Norwood. Fleck is just about the only (capable) midfielder we have with a bit of bite.

I love how one negative change in formation can take our midfield from one of our best assets that can dominate games to a the worst aspect of the team that gets overrun. 😔

I think colleague is more akin to a teammate. A fan is more akin to a paying customer. And yes I would listen to a customer if they told me an employee was doing a shit job.

It's not like I'm hurling derogatory abuse. Just saying he's doing shit and not good enough. Don't think anything wrong in that

Surely Norwood. Fleck is just about the only (capable) midfielder we have with a bit of bite.

But Norwood has a very specific role too, quite often the deepest outfield player giving the creative outlet for Henderson and Egan. I'd always want a footballer there, not a midfield "enforcer"

We definitely had Duffy in his usual position at QPR – but yes, up till the sale of Evans we did go with a 3.

I obviously prefer our usual formation, but the flat 3 put us 2-0 up at Wednesday (we only went to 2-2 after Duffy was brought on and Basham switched back) so I’d argue that deserves to be added to the examples where it has worked.

For me it’s the equivalent to Warnock’s 4-5-1 – everyone prefers we don’t use it, but times will require it.

Never ever play with a lone striker in the Premier League. So criminal it should be written into the FA rulebook
