He seems to be one of those utility players who is yet to nail down a position, but always gives his all wherever you stick him. He broke his leg horribly last year (on the night of the helicopter crash, if I remember correctly), so fitness might still be an issue.

Badly broken ankle only just over 6 months ago, would imagine he is far off being fully fit at this time

He did it in Oct so 10 months ago. Surely CW would only consider him if he's fully recovered and fit. Agree a loan sounds like to the best option for all parties.

Can't speak too much for his ability as a player as I've only seen the odd game of his, but his reported versatility and his athletic profile both fit the bill for what we want. Big, combative, athletic, modern day utility player is exactly what we need so I'd be happy to see this one come off.

Think there will be a few candidates for this ‘versatile’ CM role as CWAK will have a few irons in the fire. Like OM failed the test move on, they don’t feck about

Agreed -

Loan would seem to be win win to be fair.

He’s unlikely to play all that much for Leicester next season so some first team action for us across a number of rolEs sounds ideal.

DM - ✅
RCB - ✅
RB - ???

Seeing as he's coming off a rough injury we could maybe even grab ourselves a bargain on a permanent. Only 24, and given Wilder's generally high ratio of successful moves in the market I wouldn't mind having him tied up rather than him playing like a world beater and going to villa for 60m next season. 😄

Wow. That's very left field but literally perfect for us as it provides competition for both Norwood and Basham. Also could play in a midfield 3 to solidify the middle, or RWB/RB in an injury crisis.
He was brought by lets face it, a top recruiting outfit and scouting network, to replace a midfielder which was the reason they won the Premier League. Very exciting.

I never once thought about him. United thinking outside the box, love it.

He is a good utility player to have at the club, before he broke his ankle he was playing really well at right back, and is able to play as a defensive midfielder and would even be capable as a centre back if really needed

He hasn’t got much of a chance to get in our team at the moment so playing for you guys will really help him kick on if he plays regularly

Very good defensively, his passing is alright, not really a player who goes forward very often, but is comfortable on the ball

Signed a new contract in the middle of being injured so the club definitely see something in him for the future

He has played in a couple of the friendlies this preseason so might be a bit short on match fitness but seems to have recovered really well from his injury

Thanks for that pal. Sounds promising that he's back playing matches too so would be up to speed quite quickly.

Whats his best position? Could he play as an attacking centre back?

Seems ready made for RCB. Could be good to develop there if we got him permanently.

Best position would definitely be defensive mid, similar to how Ndidi is for us, sit in front of the defence, getting tackles in to quickly break up attacks

Definitely could play as a centre back, pretty sure he used to play there when he was younger, but got moved forward due to him being on the shorter side (6ft), I definitely think he would excel as a right sided centre back in a back 3

Seems tailor made for us.

Any local rumours about this move?

Yes but our wide centre backs aren’t your everyday run-of-the mill centre backs.

Can he go on a mazy dribble or overlap the wing back and deliver a pinpoint cross?

With his clear loan availability, I think this one will happen.

Can’t say I really remember him doing that kind of thing, as he hasn’t really played for us regularly other than 10 odd games at the start of last season

As a right back he would push up to support the winger, not really over lapping, but would still put in crosses

I would think he has the capability to do that kind of thing though

If it is a permanent deal, as he is now a bit down the pecking order in our squad, I imagine we would expect somewhere around £10m (with a decent sell on clause)

Sheffield-based Leicester-supporting mate of mine that’s one of their season-ticket holders and who’s joined me at United for a few games per season (well, till this season):

“United in for him? I think he’s shit. Dodgy on the ball.”

Don’t listen to him though – he thought Hammond would be brilliant for us.

To our other centre half who volleys it over the keeper from 25 yards, do keep up, where have you been the last couple of years?

All very sensible. Especially if a loan.

We could probably get away with what we have, let's be fair.

So sploshing about 8m on someone who is handy but if all is going to plan will not make the first XI is getting beyond ourselves a bit in my view.

As much as I like the idea of Matt Phillips bombing down the wing, it may be that Chris and Alan think that's too reckless even for us. So 8m or so on someone with limited resale value after a couple of years and who may not start might seem too bold.

It still leaves me concerned if Norwood got a bad injury that a defensive midfielder who is 'ok' on the ball would be his back up.

But that said, Ravel has to see daylight somewhere. Maybe he or Lunny could deputise and we'd be happy for an out and out DM who can play RCB or even RWB would help complete the options.

If Amartey came, which of our existing players selection would be most at risk, bearing in mind how we currently expect our RCB to 'overlap' ?

RB - Baldock/Freeman
RCB - Basham
DM - Norwood

I'm thinking we'll start the season with more of a flat midfield 3, with Didzy/Robinson dropping deeper to fill the Duffy role by committee. So for me it'd be the attacking midfield role that'd be at risk initially.

Just my read on it from pre-season.

EDIT: It'd be Lundstram that he'd technically be displacing as our athletic central midfielder, but hard to say that yet when it's still pre season and we don't know for sure what Wilder's thinking re: Lundstram in the starting 11.
