Much like others on here wish had signed him when we had him on loan.

Would be a top quality signing and could slot in the RWB position. If this is true then I think that means Freeman might be on his way out.

I reckon this is one of those where we’ve heard that he could be available cheaply and are now more interested. We know he’s a good player. In our system he could play a number of roles, most intriguing is that RCM slot where we’re crying out for a powerful, athletic and dynamic central midfielder, a role which currently seems earmarked for Lundstram. Add in the fact he can play RWB and is still only 28, then if it looks like we could get him for £4-5m in the last year of his contract I’d be very, very interested.

Go on then.

RWB is the only stand out position for him in our team. But he'd be a starter there, IMO.

He's also changed his game a bit in recent years and is capable of doing a solid, box to box job at RCM.

He'd strengthen us significantly, no doubt about that. That right side has been a concern of mine and he'd make me much more confident in our squad.

He also has a lot of PL experience now.

But yes - Villa. Forgone conclusion if they're seriously interested.

Yes , RWB is the position that gives me most cause for concern and this lad could be the solution .

Baldock and Freeman both have their attributes , but also their weaknesses and an upgrade in this position could have a significant impact on our season .

From what I've seen , Phillips would be ideally suited to this role and If we do manage to get him , I'll be absolutely delighted .

We will have an embarrassment of attacking riches up top.

The right side is all that compromises our overall attacking threat. A quality attacking RWB would be the final piece in the jigsaw.

It would be nice to pick up that final piece this summer.

Gives us a real attacking threat at RWB with end product and could well evolve into a similar option to Valencia (not that he was a genuine option for us). If Norwood gets injured or suspended, then he provides us the option of Baldock coming in at RWB and switching to RCM. At present we have Lunny and possibly Morrison there.

Although he's had by all accounts a good preseason I'd like to think we are not reliant on Lundatram. His emergence would be a nice to have but I'd like to think we enter the season with more recognised quality where possible.

I know it's Chris's job to talk him up and as a young player he can improve, but I'd we are starting against Bournemouth with a guy who couldn't make the XI much last season at a lower level, then something is not right.

The squad is starting to pick itself if we get Phillips too.

Henderson
Basham Egan O'Connell
Phillips Norwood Fleck Stevens
Freeman/Robinson (1 from)
Sharp/Robinson/McBurnie (2 from)

Subs: Moore, Jagielka, Osborn, Morrison, McGoldrick, Mousset, Freeman/McBurnie/Sharp (1 from)

I'd be delighted with that matchday squad.

Me too, and what I particularly like is that for all the moneh spent, and the quality brought in, we still have a nucleus of the players who got us here (6/7 starters), ie we have not fallen into the Fulham trap.

I think judging from pre-season, Lunny will be in there as well...

Judging by my by now extensive knowledge of how transfers work it sounds like his agent is putting it out there that his client wants a move

Seems to be some concerns about his injury record on the Birmingham mail fan comments
Something about playing for six games then injured and taking time to get back up to match fitness
Then again they were the same concerns about McGoldrick
Maybe we just have a better fitness and player monitoring system

Shouldn't be as much of a worry in the prem where you get much bigger rest periods and even a mini winter break now
If you rest players for cup games you can go with a fully charged first team squad every week
