He wasn't out and out winging today, he was all over the place. He's not too shit to play only one position anyway, he's a reytballer.WINGER

We need a tough tackling, box to box middie not a wide player.
That Ferguson at the back looks very promising.I'll take all their young players too.
They have an outstanding batch currently.

Haven't they sold their best 2 to Man City & Barcelona? Not a bad set up if teams like that are knocking on the door.
Don't think "moved on" has anything to do with it - him signing for us now would be completely different to had we signed him a decade ago; then, he'd have been our star player, at a much lower level, now he'd be a good squad player, at a much higher level.Blimey this thread’s been running for the best part of ten years. I really don’t think it’s likely we’ll sign him now. We’ve moved on, haven't we?

Besides, we resigned Billy 6 years after we sold him (for the 2nd time), and that didn't work out too badly!
If Baldock got injured for a medium/long period of time, I wouldn't have particular confidence in Freeman to fill his boots. I think improving squad depth is a vital part of progressing as a club, because even with our players' excellent conditioning, there's no guarantee one of our key men won't suffer a freak season-ending injury, and should that happen, having quality back-up is necessary if we don't want our season to be derailed. I'm quite happy with our depth in most positions, but I would like to see an upgrade on Freeman in the summer for that reasonNot for me, thanks. I reckon that the way we progress now should be by upgrading the first team, not by adding to the squad.
Ideally we sign a player with the potential to be better than Baldock. It’s unlikely we’ll find one who’s already better, who would join us and wouldn’t want huge wages. I think that’s generally the case with most of our players. If Baldock got injured for a medium/long period of time, I wouldn't have particular confidence in Freeman to fill his boots.
