Interesting point about 'darkest times'. When United collectively have a shocker, Basham is almost always our best player. At home to Preston at the tail end of the previous season, for example. His head doesn't drop when everyone else's has.

I remember thinking that about Monty - not one of our most talented players for sure, but if the rest of that squad had his attitude and determination we'd have avoided the drop that season. I think this squad has... and Bash typifies that.

Look at the lad front row, dark top, to the right of Bash, he knew what was going to happen. looks like he is surrendering to the inevitable, a cert goal and Championship football for the mighty Leeds next season. Oh dear, so sorry, NOT.

Gonna throw this in, might get slaughtered but here it goes. Monty was talented. Anybody can throw there body about but to be in the right place and to make those challenges is a talent. We could all chuck our bodies on the line but you have to do it right to not get sent off every game.

Yep. He had the talent to have a long career in the top two divisions, highly regarded by all of his managers and team mates. It should be obvious to anyone that he had talent.

Brilliant game, I remember Forster did well to keep that score 1-0. If he hadn't we'd have ran away with the game. Southampton were almost full strength and poor. One of McNulty's better games, too.

I just read that and I love the interview that is what will keep us up, proper spirit but also recognising what we are and being honest and if we keep that mentality we will be fine. We’ll win games no one thought we would, like the Nade Arsenal game, and we’ll beat teams we are close to, like villa and Newcastle who think they are better than they are. I loved reading that. Come on! Lot on yers!

Was that when he went on a maurading run and then did a crazy turn and they all just shit themselves? That’s what I give him the tag for, not the quote of the pinging the ball around. Running at people causes havoc because too many teams are too rigid. If we keep that about our game we will cause havoc and that is what we must keep and I think we are trying to do with the recruiting. Also wilder in an interview said we need goals. We’re not here to piss about. I’m loving our approach.

I have to be honest and say he is a player I criticised for two or more seasons, He append to be a typical “negative Nigel” (Clough) signing, neither one thing or the other, adequately average when he played in midfield or as a Centre back in a back four, the guy who would make 50 or so appearances for the club over two seasons and then a decade later we would be scratching our head trying to recall him...

Then along came Chris Wilder and the overlapping Centre back formation.. from then on he’s been a man transformed, he’s become “Mr Sheffield United”

I don’t know how many appearances he’ll make for us this season, it may be a Bob Booker like swan song, but he’s already written himself into our history and our affections.

That run and turn from Basham had to be seen to be believed. Nowadays its more of a regular occurrence!

We look unstoppable in those highlights! Southampton were no slouches (sp?) then either.
