Their wives aren't employees of SUFC. My wife sometimes moans about my employer (as do a great many members of my extended family). However, as her husband, not her master, it's not up to me to tell her to can it. She has a right to her opinion, and a right to voice that opinion as she sees fit.Duffy has been an unbelievable servant for this club and undoubtedly one of the reason we’re where we are today.
My only negative to him is his attitude, last season when he was dropped for the first few game his wife and Billy sharp’s were voicing their opinions on social media, unprofessional.
This contract issue hasn’t been handled well either, Wilder would have given him a chance in the Prem I have no doubt about that. Wilder made reference to his journey and him returning to Liverpool his boyhood club in most of his promotion interviews. He’s clearly just had a pay rise following promotion, he’s 34 in a few months. In my opinion he should have got his head down and earned another year.
We can go around offering 34 year olds 2/3 year contracts it doesn’t make financial sense.

Absolutely it isn't, but my point is that neither Duffy nor Sharp themselves can be blamed for it and to suggest that they're culpable by not reining their other halves in suggests an unhealthy power dynamic. You are quite correct in your statement that they do not control what their wives may or may not put on social media for all the world to potentially see.
That said, if i was in their position, the chances are i would tell my missus that i would be disappointed with her if she goes on facebook etc and had a biy of a pop at my gaffer (even if i agreed with her behind closed doors) as it could potentially make things more difficult for me at work. I would ask her to respect me enough to know me enough to know that i would sort things out face to face with my gaffer if i have a problem or if we have an issue to resolve.
Whilst probably not a major issue, family members going on facebook and having a go at footballers employers, certainly isnt going to add a positive in any way.
I think you’ve taken the context completely wrong, I’m not saying it in a ‘man should tell his wife what she can and can’t say’ but what I am saying is he knows how this looks to the public. Specifically last season when it was tough initially there were a few moans and groans towards wilder. It’s not good for the whole atmosphere of the club and fan base, sort it in house.Their wives aren't employees of SUFC. How much do we think Duffy earns now after promotion?
I struggle with it but a few seem certain Carruthers is now on 18k a week by virtue of our promotion and a clause in his contract.
If that's true (I sincerely hope not) then Duffy would deserve to be on much more considering his contribution over the last two seasons.
If we’re bringing players in who play a similar role to Duffy, are yet to prove themselves at the top level and are getting paid more than Duffy who has proved himself at our club then I can see why he’d want a bigger pay cheque. Now I’m not saying this is the case but it is a possibility that Duffys’ agent has got wind of it and Duffy feels aggrieved, this will test Wilders resolve at the very top and it’s decisions like this that can make or break a season.
I hope he gets a decent deal at Blackburn, Preston or Wigan. Close to home and better for his family
If he has actually had some form of 'offer' I can only see DirtyLeeds being able to match the Premier package he'd get if he stayed here.

Fair play. I've just been on a leadership course at work and the whole unconscious bias thing is probably weighing a bit heavy on my mindI think you’ve taken the context completely wrong, I’m not saying it in a ‘man should tell his wife what she can and can’t say’ but what I am saying is he knows how this looks to the public. so he gets a 2 year deal. plays a year in the champs . .gets promoted (cough) and ends up with one year in the PL. one year older. back to square one. can't see the logic myself
I also would like this outcome, bar him putting on that much weight, which I fear could lead him to getting a club fine.I feel/hope this is a bit of a public telling off and get your arse in gear or get out talk.
Love to see him on the bench at Barnsley half a stone over weight from the humble pie munching
Just a day late Dan....other than that, great story.
