So regardless of local rivalry, there is now a huge gulf between the sides in terms of divisions, we were excellent in the second half against them at their place when we got promoted from League 1 and they went down. I'd have expected some of those comments after we beat them in that game.
However, when a Newly promoted Premier League side faces a Conference side in a preseason friendly and the Premier League side is showcasing two of its multi-million pound signings, the result and goals are completely irrelevant. Its just pissing and whinging for the sake of it.
And yes, when that side bring 3365 away fans (more than half of the 6,270 attendance) to a friendly game, and your average last season was 4,503) your club is indeed boosting its coffers and fair play to them.
Some fans don't get what the point of friendlies are, our own are the same. Even Pigs have tweeted that they beat Northampton 0-4 compared to our 0-2. Its nice to go unbeaten, but its also important to get a few things out of the system.
The main thing is for players to get time in their legs, work with new players, face up against sides that will challenge them and perhaps deal with defeats.
Chesterfield players will have most certainly got a lot from playing against United, just as United players will have too, in different ways, Kean Bryan got 90 mins, Robinson and Sharp got a run out together, Freeman, Freeman and Baldock all getting their chance to work on their attacking play as well.
Barnsley will probably pose a tougher test, just as Reims will too.
