Liverpool and Manchester United are set to be the only Premier League clubs unable to show Video Assistant Referee (VAR) replays in their stadiums next season.

Why are Liverpool and Manchester United exempt from this ruling? Why don't the PL enforce this requirement for those two, arguably amongst the biggest teams in the league, and will be two of the most watched teams...

Why are Liverpool and Manchester United exempt from this ruling? Why don't the PL enforce this requirement for those two, arguably amongst the biggest teams in the league, and will be two of the most watched teams...

Because they don’t have a screen and they’ll have some reason why they can’t put one in, like restricting views or something

The cynic in me is really overthinking this though... would say, us and Southampton have gotten away with it?

Don't buy it. We had to remove seats/move seats to put in stuff that were required. Why can't Man Utd/Liverpool do the same?

My favourite PL requirement so far is that we need to hire a club masseuse for the referees after the game. No. Seriously.

I think he means, they only have to provide 3,000 instead of 10% which would be 7,500, especially in Man Utd's case.

IIRC they give away more in the FA Cup.

We get away with it, I think don't we 2991 in the lower tier But I take your point I do feel as though Bournemouth should be forced to give approx 3000 away tickets every game then they might be a bit more inclined to expand the ground as its frankly embarrassing playing top level football in a stadium that small.

It's not like finding space for a 32" flat screen, where are Man U and Liverpool supposed to put big screens?

They'd have to go on the roof maybe, but would you be able to see them? Under the roof? They probably kick out heat too.

I get wanting other teams to suffer a bit when they're spending £80m on defenders that have never won anything, but it'd be the fans that would be disadvantaged.

There are reasons to feel like the league favours the big teams, this ain't one in my opinion.

We've had to make lots of changes to upgrade to be Premier League ready, i think one of these was Floodlight upgrades, if we have to pay all this money, which i think was covered by the Premier League money, then there has to be a question on why they weren't also told to do the Screen upgrades

I'd assume their stadium plans were finalised way before the PL decided to announce VAR in the 2019/2020 season. I could be wrong though.

Yeah i am not referring to VAR, but just a big screen. The only two clubs in the Premier league without a screen are Man U and Liverpool. Man U i can kind of understand as their newest stand is probably something like 10-15 years old (maybe older as the huge stand they have was up in 97 or 99 i think ), before screens became a thing.

We had our screen installed in something like 2006 or 2007, so its surprising that Liverpool didn't plan for a screen when they built their new stand.

Liverpool will probably get one when they do the Anfield Road stand. That's a reyt mess anyway, they'd be relocating a lot of seats permanently you'd assume, out of that corner where fans are sat side on while a few metres away everyone's sat facing forward. So a screen could go there.

Old Trafford is more difficult.

Personally I don't see why they can't put the review information on the hoardings anyway. You'd have to put electronic ones on both sides of the pitch but it'd do.

Ok that would make more sense then, as i say, it would be odd to not have planned one when it is seemingly the trend for all clubs in at leats the top two divisions to get one installed

For what it’s worth - looks like it was 2009.

I remember at the time te rumour was that we got it from Darlington when they were having serious financial trouble.

The 3 tier stand at Old Trafford (1996) was up and running well before we played the semi final v Newcastle whose fans got that and part of the Stretford end we had the rest of the ground. Small 2nd tiers behind the goals were added around 2000-01. Nothing much has been done since then so yeah for at least 15 years.

Yeah i could remember it being there in the Semi v Newcastle and couldn't really remember much being done since, so their ground isn't really set up for such a change.

I am sure with the prices that Man U charge they could install a tablet at every seat to watch the VAR decisions on...
