Egan was the best defender in the Championship last season. The data speaks for itself. You've just payed almost 3 million more for a more limited, older player . Maguire went for 2.5 million plus substantial add ons. He was in the last year of his contract, so it was a case of getting something rather than nothing. There was actually relatively little interest bar Wolves and Hull. You could've had yourselves a bargain...
Adams went for 2.25 million plus add ons, some of which we've just received.
The difference between us and Brenford is that we don't have a sugar daddy owner and have used the 30 plus million in player sales to get promoted. If it wasn't for Paul Coutts leg break it would've taken two years, rather than three. We have, essentially, your model but have been more successful at implementing it over the past three years .

Well that's a difficult one as the add ons are never really disclosed. But I don't feel the package will equate to 20m either. No championship player has been sold for such sums before....and it's not exactly a villa or a leeds that have just been relegated that we're dealing with.

I'd get the terms of the bet outlined mate. I can see someone going up to 20 for the package, but not interms f the guaranteed fee. It could be 12 million plus 8 million in possible add ons, for example.

Target young, hungry players from lower divisions that are underated by clubs for various reasons, and bring them in and develop them. If an earth shattering bid comes in higher than our valuation move them on. Only bring senior pros in on the cheap or on loan. They have to be easily dispensable. Don't upset the wage structure. Players outside the wage structure can only be loans. Target players that are in the last year of their contract that fit into this criterion. In Wilder's case, he's had to accept that owner led investment will be minimal. Our initial signings for the prem look largely the same.

Why are we discussing chuffing Brentford, their business model, its success etc. I'll add my bit since I'm here. Positives first: I think what Brentford have done great recruitment wise and the new ground on the way which looks great is a great example of what can be done with decent ownership.

However, I'm interested in whether we're signing Maupay, I personally don't think it'll happen but I have no interest in this thread going past 200 pages, the majority of which are Brentford fans on here debating with us. Do us a favour and go back to your own forum, unless we sign Maupay or he goes elsewhere.

None of your combinations will happen. It's £20m PLUS add-ons, not £20m INCLUDING add-ons. Especially add-ons reliant on you staying-up. We might take such a deal from Manchester City based on staying-up and value it differently than a similar add-on from you. No offence!
