I've just been looking at the squad that got us promoted (Feb to May 2019) and there were 24 players at the club, even though only 21 actually played in any matches. That seems to be a sensible squad size for a club like United going up into the premier league. Assuming that none of the players who are still with us from that squad are leaving and given the players we have already signed I reckon the players we still need to replace are on the left as follows. Rumours for replacements are listed to the right. So it looks like we have still to sign at least 6 players.

In addition Clarke and Slater seem to be included in the squad so far , so may be retained as cover depending on how much activity we get done in the next 3 weeks.

Assuming Henderson returns on loan that still leaves 1 premier league loan to fill 1 of the spaces which you would expect United to use

Possibly, but I wouldn't be comfortable with Stevens and Osborn as our defensive left side for any number of games.

That would mean we're either looking for someone to cover JOC or Kean Bryan will be the cover. Wilder may have been having a look at how we trained in Portugal before making a decision on that position.

Hopefully Bryan's in peak physical condition and can now be of proper use. It would be a nice, money saving surprise.

No way will CW “relegate” Lundstram. It’s very clear that he rates him, and that he will have a role to play in the PL. He was also arguably our best player on Friday.

Maybe. Played well against Real Betis in a very early pre season friendly. I'm OK with Lundstram but once you have replaced the players who've left, he is in the bottom 3 or 4 (as selected by Wilder last season). In fact in terms of minutes played, he played less than any player still at the club all season. Hogan, Dowell, Clarke and Cranie all played more minutes than him last season.

What the hell. We arent going to sign a new squad in one window. Yes some players like Freeman/Baldock/Basham etc maybe might need upgrades but they deserve that one season in the PL IMO.

I totally agree.

But It is possible once cwak have finished the replacement of last season's leavers , that now only needs a striker and a goalie, that they will look to do a couple more squad upgrades.

I'd be happy with two more in and go till Jan myself

Id like to see McBurnie and a defensive minded midfielder, the latter being someone who can slot back into the right hand side of the defence if necessary (Basham role).

Then that should do it, unless unforseen circumstances happen and we get offered a real bargain i.e. Brentford give Utd a cracking deal on Maupay if they want to move on an unsettled player quickly.

We need to have some money left over though for January, so that CWAK have enough wriggle room to manoeuvre and change things / freshen things up.

Wilder has been very smart since he became our manager and likes to have players that can and will cover more than one position if and when needed. It shows how many places can be filled by the new signings.
