If we do get Maupay, (its dragging on but whats new) but if we do, and we pay anything between £15 to £20 mill for him, who will fall down the pecking order??
We will have paid a club record for him( if it happens) so you would think for that kind of money he ought to be automatic choice. In that case who is left out, Billy or Diddsy?
One a club legend, the other a class act and (IMO) the best free signing we ve ever had.

As much as I love Billy, his lack of pace will be a limiting factor for us next season. We are fine when dominating teams and playing our tufty ball - this suits Billy down to the ground and gives him time to do what he does best and poach from inside the box. Next season we will need more, and genuine pace will enable us to sit back a little more and play the outlet ball. That is not Billy's game, so I can see him slipping down the pecking order. Who would back against him scoring a few late on though, coming on in the last 20 mins and doing the biss!

I would start Billy and Diddsy first few games with him coming on before starting him ahead of Billy, especially if the signing drags on. I would only change from day 1 if we were playing 1 up front

The chemistry factor is the reason for me; those first few games are winnable , not convinced Maupay hits the ground running

Imagine United making a public offer for 12 mill, then 14 mill..then 16, then 18....then walking away
And then offering 12 million for McBurnie.....Swansea will say we’ve offered 18 mill for Maupay and they want the same.

Many clubs don’t make an offer, they negotiate the price then make the offer.

Ahhh the old can't blind 'em with science, baffle them with bullshit!

You see it all the time.
It’s in the media for weeks that Edin Hazard is going to Real Madrid.
Real Madrid don’t say a word but there’s still constant reports in the media.
Chelsea clarify that they’ve not received a bid from a single club.
Then the next day he’s sold to Real Madrid for whatever.
There seems to be a lot of secrecy regards transfer interest and manipulation of social media these days.

If we get him we can have a thread in general blades chat??

Forgot to charge my phone last night and didn't take a charger to work and ran out of battery about 10am.

Was an excited kid all-day waiting to get home hoping to see a new signing but no, just more IFS what ifs and maybes.

🙄

I think the pecking order is based on performance, at least it should be.

If I was Wilder I’d start with those players who have got us here, unless there’s good reason not to do so. To me that’s the fairest way and the easiest situation for him to manage. It’s entirely justifiable.

We can introduce the new players to the team as we go along and if they show they are adding something extra then they come into contention for a starting place.

We also need to be realistic. Yesterday’s heroes won’t be tomorrow’s saviours. We need to evolve all the time. By signing younger, quality players we are evolving and at some stage they will be first choice and later, other quality players will succeed them too.

I think Wilder will manage it well tbh. He’s focused on what is best for SUFC and won’t let sentimentality or transfer fees dictate who gets the shirt.

He’s more or less a like for like replacement for Billy. As it stands, it should be Bill’s shirt to lose. Wilder showed last season that he’s capable of shuffling the pack to keep it fresh up front.
I do fear that VAR is not going to be kind to our Bill...especially the clever use of his arse to find space and those marginal offsides

I would be very happy if we can acquire Maupay. I think somewhere around the £20m mark would seem about right given his goals and assists last season. We could afford to pay a bit more, as say an additional bonus if we avoid relegation?

I prefer Maupay to Austin or Mcburnie.

Maupay has to start and be our main striker. Sharp and Mcgoldrick can swap it up and who else we sign....

Five cliches in one sentence. Good effort. :)
Yes but we need a false number 9, somebody in the hole and others working the channels then tracking back as well as a box to box player.
Glad you flagged it up, my first reaction was that Bertram had taken to penning scripts for a porno movie:oops:

Deal dead in the water according to JL4x4

A Daily Mail reporter called Simon Jones disagrees, this is their latest from tonight.
Although it might mean that 16.5m is our highest bid and Brentford have replied adamant that they won’t compromise as they want more. Who knows?

Maups? Maupsy?
What will we call him?
Hope we dont just chant "Neal".

It says we’ve signed four players since our promotion. Am I being thick?

I thought the same. The press seem to assume that we’ve already signed Henderson and maybe they assume we’ll offer a contract to Morrison.
So that’s Henderson, Freeman, Morrison and Jags.
