Woody scores goal direct from a corner v Norwich in January 1973
Woody's 2nd goal of his hat trick against Southampton in December 1973. We won 4-2. Ken Furphy's first home game as Blades manager.
Spot on. Never ceases to amaze me how you can recall all the details!Woody's 2nd goal of his hat trick against Southampton in December 1973. We won 4-2. Ken Furphy's first home game as Blades manager.
It’s after 1978 I worked on the Students Union Building (Nelson Mandela)in the backgroundPond Street around 1950 or a little before. I started senior school in 1953 using Pond St on homeward journey. The domed roof building, platform A &B, if memory serves me right was being built then and by the time I left school it was as this, below, only the buses looked better in 1958.View attachment 56112

Harder to forget this one.Spot on. Never ceases to amaze me how you can recall all the details!
Wonder how many Woody scored with his head? Can only recall one other, the 2-1 loss at Burnley away about 74/75. Think it was just after losing at Villa away in 4th round of FA cup. A big following to Villa that day in the pouring rain on the open end. What were the estimates. 6 - 8 thousand? Battered on the pitch and soaked on the terrace. Must have been Jan/Dec 74/75. A decent away following to Burnley too, on the big old side terrace next to the Burnley fans. Great season that was.Harder to forget this one.
Woody didn't do headers. The cross or pass hit him on the head as he tripped. Still see it happening.
The ones I remember are the two you mention and the 4-1 win against Luton in March 1978. Let's see if you can find anymore in the below threadWonder how many Woody scored with his head? Villa were second division and got promoted that season with man u I think. It was 4-1. Don't know who got ours. The new Holt End looked and sounded awesome with the roof on, meanwhile we got soaked at the other end. Ray Graydon, Brian Little etc.Went to the FA cup game at Villa park. Team had a real off day. Chico Hamilton I think gave us the runaround. Were Villa 3rd division? Silent will put the record straight.
4-1 1975 January.

Alan Woodward's goals and assists
Thanks to Matthew Bell of Flashing Blade for sending me the attachment of the feature I did for Flashing Blade in around 2002. I will copy and paste each season per page so that you can read about Woody's goals and assists in one particular season you enjoyed in one page rather than having to...www.s24su.com

I've had a quick scan of that wonderful list of Woody's goals but I can't see any more headers. So glad I had the pleasure of seeing some of those goals live. He's the reason I got addicted to United. That shot of his, caught out so many top rated keepers in his time. Solid as a rock and a bit of pace and control with a rocket shot. What about all those assists! Loved the man.The ones I remember are the two you mention and the 4-1 win against Luton in March 1978. Let's see if you can find anymore in the below thread

At my boarding school I told a Villa fan (3 years older than me) that I thought the Blades would win as Villa should be concentrating more on promotion and the League Cup final. He disagreed. I was eagerly awaiting for the score in the tv room and then when Grandstand revealed the scores, I had my head in my hands and from the corner of my eye I could see this Villa fan walking towards me and looking at my reaction. Villa's win didnt affect their League Cup and promotion double.A real day to forget, football special, rained on all day, United no show
They beat Norwich at Wembley that season . The League Cup final replay you saw was in March 1977. Yes, Latchford scored. Villa won the 2nd replay at Old Trafford by 3-2 (Chris Nicholl scored a 40 yarder!)I also had the pleasure of seeing villa hammer the pigs in their promotion run in towards end of season. A lovely sunny evening at Hillsborough, 12,000 villa, most of em on the Kop.
One for Silent - There was a League Cup Final replay at Hillsborough, was it same season? I was there but can't remember if it was Everton v Villa? Think it was a draw and Bob Latchford scored for Everton

Please read #11570 correctly, then it will be clear that the photo you refer to was used for making a specific point. Afraid, as others have, you've taken it out of context. It’s after 1978 I worked on the Students Union Building (Nelson Mandela)in the background
