Not good enough for the PL, we would need a top class keeper if Henderson does not sign
Our goalkeeper will be very busy next year

I agree, if Henderson does sign, he’s going to have to be at his very best. I think he’s had a relatively easy ride so far, as the defence have been so good.

We’ll see his true worth next season GLTTL 😬

GK is the one position I wouldn't mind us spunking £40k a week on a grizzled 30+ campaigner with 100+ PL appearances.

As others have said, it's going to be a key position and the speed of the attacks in the PL mean we need a GK who appreciates anything could happen at any time.

As commanding as Blackman was, his strength was never his speed, agility or concentration.

Henderson is a better GK but if we're not buying him perm, I'd rather we brought someone in who has PL experience and will be our Gk for the next 2 or 3 seasons.

If Henderson doesn’t sign, we’d be best going for someone like Sam Johnstone, K Westwood, Randolph, Neil Etheridge. Even Nick Pope who seems to have found himself 3rd choice at Burnley

Pig he may be, but he’s still one of the top 5 best goalkeepers in the championship IMO

Apart from the fitness issues and his reported bad attitude, he's not good enough for the Premiership. If he was he'd already be there or at least a no2 on someones bench at this stage of his career. Hes past it and on a downward trend, does not fit a CW signing.

Just looked up what’s happening with him. 26 next month and now out on loan at Vitesse.

I liked him. Probably is good enough to be a Premier League keeper for a bottom half team.

However he’s just another Chelsea player who’ll never break into their first team but was given a long contract on stupid wages. Can’t blame him for constantly going out on loan whilst running his contract down into his mid/late 20s.

I get Chelsea’s model it works or it does for as long as it’s allowed to but I’ll never get players staying on this long in this structure maybe it differs because a he’s a GK but 25/26 is far too old to be considered a development player isn’t it?

Bad attitude ? Where has this bit of fishwives gossip come from.

Must be made money wise anyway,
If I were in my prime or nearing it I’d want to play every week yes he did at Leeds wasn’t it ?

Fish wives gossip :D suppose he only just getting back after his leg break.
Don’t really agree with the Chelsea scheme of having that many as very few make it to the first team but got to be economical in the selling on aspect or they wouldn’t do it

its crazy really said it on here before a while back Chelsea won 2 titles in 3 seasons. During those season they spent £17m after taking into consideration all the sales of the kids and fringe players..

they did however also let Salah and De Bruyne go

A few years back Dario Gradi summed up the modern loan system in an article by saying that people think it's great nowadays when a team gets a player on loan from a big Prem club. They forget that in the past you would've signed them for free, not paid the loan fee, and had all the money from a big transfer fee if they turned out to be any good.

In 2017 Chelsea alone had 62 senior professional contracts. They had 25 players out on loan. Players like Blackman who, with all due respect, are probably never going to put on a Chelsea shirt. It's just snapping up anyone with talent and farming them out. It's another way the big clubs make money whilst killing the game for the smaller ones.

It's hard to be too harsh on the players because Blackman's probably made a lot of money with his contracts and as a youngster it would've been a huge gamble to turn down that kind of living for uncertainty, but it's tragic that he's 25 and played so little football. I don't think he was a Prem keeper (I could be wrong), but he could've been number one for someone in League One at the bare minimum. He certainly didn't look out of place in the Championship.

The system is broken.

it’s completely broken but until it’s outlawed it will be the way the likes of City and Chelsea operate.

Sad truth is Timori, Mount, Abraham have been Chelsea’s best players so far this season and I’d imagine Hudson-Odoi and James will be just as influential when they’re back fit but if it wasn’t for the transfer ban they would have been loaned out again at least if not sold..

measures are been taken though, a quick search I found this article about reducing the amount of players you can have out on loan. * any upload links for some reason

Think the broken leg hampered his progression personally. Didn't look out of place in the championship. So the gas have got a very very good keeper on loan.

He was an average championship keeper who could have progressed but always looked a touch cumbersome to me. His broken leg has really set him back. I guess this is to get him match fit and put him in the window. He’s never going to be a first teamer for Chelsea.

Kept Ched at bay, keeping a clean sheet in his home debut against Fleetwood today.
