Saw this, have a missed something? when has this ever been mentioned? Id be keen on us moving from Shirecliffe and out of town, nice complex in the country side on the west side of the city.
Said in court, Wilder also said the place was outdated. The people desperate for McCabe to look good out of this are running with it. But it’s ok to turn the Lane into a hotel/student accommodation.

Might be a bit off topic. But did we train at Abbeydale in the 90’s or am I imagining things?

Yes we did, used to be able to see them sometimes as you went past on the number 2/59 bus.

United wanted to develop the Abbeydale complex, as I think it was to be called, local residents kicked up a major fuss, and along with the council, the project was stopped.

“Outdated”?

"To improve the team, to improve the assets and to improve and integrate the academy," Wilder replied, in response to a question about his priorities this summer.

The old Westfield School site would have been perfect for a new academy. Problem with Sheffield is its hilly and green, so you're either on a hill, or in some protected woodland, or on some farmers land.

I went to Westfield, and even when there were buildings there, it had easily enough space for 4 or 5 pitches I'd say, the field I used to do cross country in seemed to go on forever. Without buildings you could probably get that up to 7 or 8 and still have room for a gym, pool, and offices etc.

Decent transport links for players and public transport for yoofs.

Somebody has to reach out to both owners to demonstrate what is needed right now and seek agreement to a better budget.

I think this could be your time Woodwardfan ... you almost got it to the finishing last season with that plea you made, which was so close to being a success.
Maybe write a letter, addressed to both parties and get it out on all social media platforms. Give it ten days to a fortnight and by any luck, you'll have brought them together, the transfer budget will have been sorted and although not united, both parties will have seen their ways in court, forgotten by the supporters and Wilder can 'ForgeInSteel' our PL season transfer dealings.

Go on Woodwardfan lad, DO IT FOR THE BLADES!

Have to say Grappler - who cut and paste the OP?

Looks like a mashup combo by Blunkett & Wonder.

Sort yerself Man, yer better than that!

🤣

Well that picture has certainly thrown the cat amongst the pigeons !

Not sure if serious......

In terms of new sites for an alternate training facility/academy, what about at near/the Olympic Legacy Park (Don Valley in old money)? The women's side play out there, there's good public transport links, road system, lots of other sporting facilities that can be shared and plenty of relatively cheap and trouble-free land to build on (assuming people sell up). It gives scope then to add even more facilities should we need to do so, in the future and would create a bit of a sports hub, like City have in Manchester (though I'm not advocating we move our ground out there at all!)

The downside is that the whole area is likely to get flooded on a more and more regular basis.

Have you been now it’s a new satellite St George’s BT?

Officially called the Isobel Bowler Sports Centre, very impressive it is.

Houses have been built on the old school buildings though

Thing is he never said that, I was in court that day.

He said potential investors had never heard of us as we were in league one with almost no TV coverage so he was telling potential investors if they bought in it would be not just the team but property assets like Shirecliff which could be sold for houses if ever necessary.

He never said he would do that, he was trying to sell the investment to others.

Several of the big London clubs don't have training facilities in the city, they are way out by the M25. Chelsea and Spurs are just two examples.

Why does a soccer club need to own its training ground anyway, most of the work places / offices I've worked in were not owned by the companies using them.

Didn't Derby sell their ground recently.

Football is football and property is property, stick to what you are good at.

I've never been, but I knew it was there, I just had a look on Google at some pictures and it is indeed impressive. Some good facilities really around S20, the new Westfield has loads of pitches too, think some of them are all weather astro.

Thanks TF I didn't know they'd done that with my old school. Looks like they've built on the site of the old Sports Hall. Many fond memories of getting changed in there and then running down the embankment to the football pitches.

I don't know what happened there Lazarus, my copy and paste is usually better than that. I'll blame it on semi-heat stroke due to excessive temperatures in Hollywood last week mate.
