Yep ............. as soon as possible after cheap as chips gets the boot !

While I agree for once, I don't believe we can until the summer.

What's the point, we still play the same way?

Billy's United form would return as soon as he is included back into our "system".

Thankfully his wages mean no one is likely to sign him before the summer and then he only has 12 months on his contract.

All that said I just don't think United is the right club for Billy and he will continue to do well elsewhere.

Sharp hasn't scored in 16 league games for United, and never looked like he would during that time. I don't see getting him back in the side will make any difference to that record.

Billy for United: 53 league games, 8 goals
Billy for everyone else: 112 league games, 70 goals

It's just not meant to be.

as soon as cheap as chips gets the boot ........ thats a BIG clue. ;)

All 8 of Sharp's league goals are under Blackwell. He played 15 league games whilst Robson was in charge and did not score in any of them.

Beyond 'trying too hard', what could possibly be the reason that he could score for other clubs but not for Sheffield United? There isn't one.

Bryan Robson - poor manager; asked him to run into channels, not hang around the box waiting for a sniff.

Blackwell - poor manager, tactics not conducive to a raft of chances around the box, and also asked him to work in the channels off a big front man.

Guess what, Ched is suffering for the same reason.

A big clue eh Beighton?

Still waiting for your takeover to happen.

No Houso you are wrong Ched is just shite despite his record elsewhere including his international form.

'cos he was playing on the wing. next.

He's out of contract at the end of the season isn't he?

Sell him to the highest bidder in January, we'll probably get a reasonable fee given his current form.

I'd only have him back at the Lane if O'Driscoll was coming with him. He hasn't done it under 3 managers at the Lane and I can't see the benefit in changing everything to suit him.

"I can't see the benefit in changing everything to suit him."

I think the benefit would be we'd be able to do it cheaply and easily and would end up watching better football, being more entertained and scoring more goals. We'd also have a real chance of having a striker capable of scoring more than 20 goals a season for the first time in ages. He's quite clearly more than good enough at this level but just needs the right supply and the faith of the manager to allow him to take up his desired position in the box and not at least 30 yards from goal.

Really the way we've been playing I can't really see the benefit of not changing.

I would take sharp over creswell and evans. Just need to use the wings more and get the ball in the box for him.

Well I said he'd do it at Donny.
It’s the style of play that suits him.
I wish we would change the way we play to suit him the only way I can see that is if crapwell buggers off.
What he knows about passing football could be wrote on a postage stamp.
Any one who's got the slightest clue could tell you Billy’s a fox in the box and needs the ball played to him from the wings so he's not 30yards out or got his back to the goal.
I think a swoop for o'driscoll would be a great move don’t think he’d need a lot of money to get us playing football so won’t miss the money to get rid of crapwell.

Nothing cheap and easy about changing the manager and a decent percentage of the playing staff!

You seem to be implying that playing a passing game would mean that Billy Sharp would be a success. That's an incredibly simplistic point of view. I think O'Driscoll, at Bournemouth and Doncaster, plays a fairly unique style and this is what suits Sharp at present. We arguably passed it more under Robson but Sharp didn't look any better than he did under anyone else. I expect Sharp to move in January, to someone other than Doncaster, and it will be fascinating to see how he performs.

To me, Billy Sharp is a very old fashioned type of player, he has very few physical attributes but has made a good career out of a natural goalscoring instinct. I don't think that's enough any more above a certain level.

I never understood why Billy didnt make it under Blackwell really. It should have been quite simple to spring 10 feet in the air, control the ball under his chin (whilst fending off the attentions of a psychopathic centre half and midfield player), turn them both, dribble past 4 defenders, round the keeper and sidefoot into the unguarded net.

Where's the problem?

Staying onside and not fouling the defender would have been somewhere to start :D

We actually didn't play much football at all under Robson, well unless you're including passing it round at the back for someone to lump into the channel or to Beatties neck.

The so called 'football' under Robson was dire and again we created very little in terms of chances just like Blackwell's 'football'. I'd go as far as saying Wazznocks teams played significantly more football than both of them.

So it's still just me that thinks that having to change an entire team's strategy to suit one player's alleged strengths is wrong, then? I've never understood this "play to his strengths" malarky. If a player's not able to come into a side and enhance the team, the whole team shouldn't have to adapt to that player to bring out the best in him. It's just flawed.

We passed the ball about for the second half on Tuesday. Why didn't anyone score a goal then? Would Sharp honestly have been the difference?

SHARP'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH however many goals he scores for Donny
But, it should shove the price up to £2.5 or £3 million if Donny want him next season
