Not Chico Hamilton? To my knowledge, Eddy missed a penalty twice and both of them hit the woodwork. Leeds (a) in Sept 74 and Man U (h) in Dec 75.

I usually was in A row of the BLUT between 1971 and 1977

Tut, tut Silent Blade :) According to Denis Clarebrough's 'bible' (Page 436) Eddy missed a pen. in the 1-0 home win v. Liverpool on April 8th, 1974, hit the post in the Leeds game you mentioned (21/9/74) and the bar in the Man. U. game on 13/12/75.

My abiding memory of Eddy was his winning goal at Old Trafford in our 2-1 win on 23rd April 1973 in front of 55,035*. I was in a seat in their North (now 'Sir Alex Ferguson') stand and the Warwick Road End (opposite the Stretford End) was uncovered.

Here's Willie Morgan and Bobby Charlton in this game:

It was also eleven years to the day since I'd first seen the Blades (Apr. 23, 1962. a 1-0 win...at Old Trafford). On that same day (23/4/73), Wednesday drew 0-0 at home to Carlisle in the second division and the crowd was around 8,000. To be fair, Man. U. were on the slide back then and would be relegated to Division 2 the following season (1973-74). The Reds' team on 23/4/73:

Oh yes, forgot that miss. It was a save by Ray Clemence but, still it wont be the match MobileBlade was talking about as the penalty wasnt off target

Aug 18th, Sept 1st and Sept 8th were on today. Unfortunately The Big Match didnt show highlights of our 3-1 win against Ipswich (played on 31st August) as Gills v Chartlton, Newcastle v West Ham and Man City v Leeds were the three matches but the following week's Big Match showed Tony Field's goal.

Tomorrow will be 15th Sept, 22nd Sept (Leeds v Blades will be shown- you can see the highlights that has been on YouTube for the last few years anyway) and 13th Oct (Blades v Everton will be shown and again highlights are on YouTube) but am disappointed that 29th Sept (Blades v Liverpool) wont be shown.

Wednesday will be 3rd Nov (Blades v Carlisle), 17th Nov and 1st Dec

Thursday will be 8th Dec, 29th Dec (Blades v Arsenal- can be seen in WalthamstowBlade 's 1974-75 video) and 12th Jan (Blades v Man City not one of the 3 matches in Big Match)

Friday will be 26th Jan, 2nd Feb, 9th Feb

Saturday will be 16th Feb, 23rd Feb (Burnley v Blades) and 16th March.

Sunday will be 23rd March, 30th March , 20th April (Everton v Blades- can be seen in You Tube too) and 27th April (Blades v Leicester not one of the 3 matches in Big Match)

Am disappointed that we wont see highlights of Blades v Liverpool that was on Big Match (29th Sept) but we will see new footage of Blades v Carlisle (Tony Field's 2 goals can be seen in Walthy's 1974-75 video) and Burnley v Blades (clear footage of Woody's header consolation can be seen in YouTube)

Thanks for flagging this up.

Saw last nights edition at my stepdaughters house. Fulham v York, 0-2, Man. United v Forest, 2-2 then a much requested showing of the Tony Field goal from the previous week against Ipswich. Well worth watching just for that bonus but also a very nostalgic experience.
Great to see well known grounds with still with mainly standing and how far the game has developed.

Watching tonights episode. Before Leeds v Utd there was the Arsenal v Luton game on. I know Haslam/Begara came from Luton but I had forgotten how many players they brought with them. In that game there was Butlin, Anderson and Ryan. Matthews was also playing for Arsenal.

Just watched the Dirties game and boy did it bring back bad memories for me. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. We lost 5-1 and on another day with the rub if the green we could easily have won. A bizarre game.

A reminder that you will see highlights of Blades v Carlisle that will be on Big Match Replayed on BT 2 Sports today. Programme starts at 5 pm. Dont know if it will be the 2nd or 3rd match. The only footage I have seen of the match on YouTube is both Tony Field's goals but not Carlisle's goal. Hope the highlights will be more than just the goals.

Let me know, I’ll be interested to hear. I’ve got a guy who can get me recordings of these if it’s worthwhile.

It’s tempting but I’m having to use the TV as a computer screen for work as I punched my laptop and bust the screen. Ordered a new one but Currys have let me down on the delivery.

Highlights of Blades v Arsenal in Big Match Replayed at 7pm this evening. Worth watching if you haven't seen the footage in YouTube. First half highlights only. Would have loved to see Jimmy Rimmer's brilliant save from a Terry Nicholl shot in the last minute but it looks like the Big Match didn't want to show footage of the 2nd half due to poor lighting (like you see in matches at St James Park)

Just noticed in the Big Match credits under "production team" one Martin Tyler. The Nigel Adkins of broadcasting....career change of direction in his chosen field. One risen to the top of the career ladder, one not!!

I didnt realise John Matthews played in more than half of Arsenal's matches during the 1974-75 season (he was a teenager then). I knew Arsenal was his first club but when I noticed him playing for Arsenal in Big Match Replayed this week, I looked up his appearances for that season. He didnt play in the 1-1 draw at the Lane in December but he did play when they beat us 1-0 at Highbury in Match (Arsenal were kicking our players especially TC and my dad yelled towards the ref "Get the twat in black off the pitch" in front of the Arsenal fans in the stand- Ken Furphy was very critical of the ref in his post match comments).

Colin Morris made his league debut for Burnley at Loftus Road and that match was featured in the Big Match. Coming out of the players tunnel before the match, I spotted Morris talking to Leighton James who gritted his teeth and punched his own palm as if he was telling Morris not to be afraid of getting stuck in!

In the Big March replayed programme starting at 6pm tonight there will be highlights of Burnley v Blades. Not sure how long the highlights will be and whether it will be 2nd or 3rd match

Just seen highlights of the Burnley match. I thought we were robbed of a first half lead when Tony Field's disallowed goal. I thought I could see two Burnley players on our left wing playing Field onside when Field put Woody's nod on into the net. That season we were good at holding on to our lead so the linesman's decision against us could have been "two points lost"!

WalthamstowBlade , MobileBlade there is good footage of Tony Currie's corner for Woodward to volley from outside the box and it was from more than 25 yards that is worth putting in the 1974-75 video despite that the volley hit the post with keeper Alan Stevenson well beaten. Woody has scored at least 3 times with that set piece routine with TC but there isnt good footage of it.

Silent Blade Think at some stage there are a couple of updates needed on the Woody compilation. Not sure when I'll get time in next couple of months though. As soon as we get good online versions of latest series I'll get them downloaded.

Ahem , more details of the circumstances surrounding this violent outburst required please?

I'm going for Millwall's 95th minute equaliser ...?

Today is the final day of the series. Highlights of Everton v Blades can be seen in the programme that starts at 7pm. A memorable match!

Yes, left us for Norwich in February 1973, Jim Bone coming the other way. Yes, Hockey wasn't the same coming back from his broken leg although he scored a spectacular equalizer against his old team at St Andrews in his first league match after the injury.

I was at St Andrews when Hockey hit that. Crowd were chanting " Hockey is a wearwolf", he was conducting their kop as they sang it. After that the home crowd loved him. We won 2-1.

It's a pity players aren't allowed to engage with the crowd anymore, used to be a much better atmosphere.

Salmons was a brilliant signing for Stoke. Great understanding with Alan Hudson who seemed to prefer working with him on the left. Salmons made a number of assists also scoring goals. We were only 4 points behind champions Derby at the end of the season and had we kept Salmons we would be higher up in the league
