We don't know how much we will get, to some £20m is an insult, to others it makes sense.
We don't know how much teams are really asking for when it comes to our targets and their wages are just as murky but let's try.

If Britt Assombalonga and Mcburnie would cost north of £10m then I think we are starting to draw up a Plan B, if the reports on Rodriguez are true then I think he's a no brainer and changes things up quite a lot.

- Deano on loan

- I would try and get wing back cover with our one remaining loan.

- Mikel or Fer for free.

- Freeman for £6m or Watkins for no more than £8m.

- Rodriguez for (reported) £5m

- Robinson £7m

Would that do it?
That would add quite a bit of pace, athleticism and experience. Does it add enough goals though?

Sadly the 20m is possibly correct, the "flexible" part that Wilder mentioned was in relation to player sales I'd imagine, in effect any you sell you get the funds for the transfer kitty..

Then the Baldock to Celtic rumour started.... Think on.

Reece James and Hendo on loan would be my two choices.

Watkins, Madine, Robinson, Fer, maybe Mikel as backup for fleck (but if we get Reece James then no need), new Lwb competition. Possibly a like for like for Duffy to who can control the final third rather than using dynamism that you’ll get from Robinson.

That’s what I think anyway haha.

You make some good points, but sadly on this site there is oodles of speculation which just leads to forum confrontation - the budget is one of the latest.

Some just need to calm down and wait to see what happens.

There will be plenty of time to either compliment everyone involved or to slag them off remorselessly.

The court case has obviously put an unwanted spanner in the works and for sure it's understandable people are twitchy. The club is going in a different direction since CW/AK et al came in - we've just got to stay calm and let the trolls have a month of wind ups and just let the management get on with it. CW eats/sleeps football and from what has happened in previous seasons most cards are kept very close to their chests and I expect no difference now - in fact if anything, I bet people involved are under the pain of death not to let anything slip out.

It's never been easy supporting United - i've been at it since 67 and there are many on here with longer jail sentences than me !

We'll be fine and the club will come through - we always do.

I refuse to contemplate that that is the budget their is no excuse for it being that low. :(

I think the valid excuse is, that Wilder has no experience of the PL, so the jury is out for loads of players whether they’ll handle the PL.
Many of the targets mentioned like Robinson and Freeman have never played in the PL, so who knows if they can make the step up.
I think a more sensible approach is to give him 15-20 this Summer but make sure a good 10-15 million is available for him in the January transfer window.

If we stay up, it’s at that point I expect Wilder to be given plenty of money next Summer. He will have learnt so much
And have a much better idea regards which type of players are needed to make progress.

When we first went up to the Championship Wilder focussed on buying the best players from league 1 because he’s knows them better and they are more likely to be hungry and humble. I reckon he’ll use a similar strategy next season.

Think we’ll only buy the better Championship players and hope they make the step up, some will and some won’t.

We’d be doing very well to get Reece James - let’s hope so as I think he’s an excellent player!

I’ve seen a lot of him this year (I’ve got a mate who has corporate seats at Wigan, get me!) and he’s been head and shoulders above most players (not just Wigan players but opposition too)

Reece James.
Good call. Add that to my list and I'm happy with that.

We wouldn't stay up on £20mil. Infact it'd be insulting to Chris. We simply have too much to spend in expensive areas on expensive skills. We can't even fill our bench at the minute and a quality striker will cost around £12mil upwards of which we need 2 minimum. It's hard to even guess fee's these days because they're so random.

But since you're asking me I'll give it a go:
Jay Rodriguez (£5mil reported release clause, but overall fee with sign on fee and wages would be well in excess of £12mil... but that's not what you asked :))
Lukas Jutkiewicz (£4mil)
John Obi Mikel (free)
Yoann Barbet (free)
Henderson (loan, with fee)
Reece James (loan, with fee)
Luke Freeman (£5mil)
Ben Osborn (£3mil)

Given that nobody pays the full fee up front that 20 is probably more like 40-60 (parachute payments should cover that in the worst scenario), having said that it's still going to take some canny signings to improve our lot.

Dean Henderson - Loan
Reece James / Mason Holgate - Loan
Yoann Barbet - Free
Leroy Fer- Free
Luca Connell - 500k (tribunal)
Luke Freeman / Joe Rothwell - £4m
Callum Robinson - £8m
Jay Rodriguez - £5m (initial)

Then keep everybody fit.

£20m really is a big ask when going into the PL with a current squad of around 14.

£30m should be the minimum.

Pure speculation I know, but our outline target for survival should be 40 points won, by way of at least 40 goals scored and no more than 60 conceded.

The simple question is a £20m budget and the current squad capable of that target?

I would suggest it’s touch and go.

Not many goals there mate, I know that's what eats up your budget though.
I'd like cover at left and right back, for Fleck and for Duffy as well but as a priority (and if that budget is even close to being right, that's how we have to plan) then a number 10 and 2x elite strikers has to be up there.

Too right, I've been suffering since 1948 !!!. Still have faith though.

Cadette Man said that Wilder also saw Jota as LWB cover so players like Connell and Freeman could feasibly be looked at with that in mind.

That would help reduce the spend and total number of signings.

Watkins as a striker/number 10 could do a similar thing.

If Board giving that to Wilder we are practically asking to go back down. That is no way near enough to compete

Wilder had no experience of league one or the championship either tbf mate ;)

Nope, I know, but if we have a £20mil budget you can't afford those goals.
Think JRod would weigh in with quite a few for us

Decent idea for a thread, decent talking point.

But there's no way Jay Rodriguez is scoring enough goals to keep you up.

How long have you been supporting United?

Not a trick question, that.

pommpey
That's not part of it though how can Huddersfield suddenly go up and spend 50m meanwhile we go up with a slightly better team and not even get half the budget in a time in which more money is given to promotion teams, it doesn't add up. And to answer your question long enough to get pissed off at the lack of progress at the highest level at this club.
