This maybe controversial, but is our pursuit of Henderson correct, firstly we will certainly only have him for 1 season maximum because if he plays well we will add 10 million onto his asking price which we wouldn't pay and if he doesn't play well we wouldn't want him, hes just signed a new contract at Manchester United and hes never made a secret of his ambition to play for them.
Even if he does sign for us we would still have to buy another quality keeper as even if his form is tip top and he stays fit he would still be missing for 2 games minimum (against Manchester United) so we would only have 1 decentish keeper. When you watch most premiership games the cheapest players on the pitch will probably be the keepers, so why waste a loan on a position we could afford why not use that loan on a quality striker that we couldn't, also when you consider that virtually every side has 2 or 3 quality keepers that's 50 or 60 in the premiership alone with probably 90% of them never playing a game, also keepers can play at the top level right into their mid 30s. You could say that if he keeps us up hed be worth it, but I think our chances of survival depends more on the defence.

To be honest, I think it's a great move to get him back on loan.

The way I look at it, is we need to strengthen and our budget by all accounts and rumours won't be huge, so if we can get Hendo back for a reasonable loan fee, it means that we have a good keeper that we know (and love) whilst not having to drop a decent sized fee on a replacement.

I think Moore is decent enough back up, and like you say we will be without Hendo for at least 2 games, but for me it's 2 games we aren't expecting to win in any case, so why not be comfortable with Moore in goal. Maybe look at it that if we get him on loan, we can spend the money on a defender or striker rather than keeper, but it does seem a bit swings and roundabouts.

I’m pretty sure the agreement of whether he can play against his parent club is between the two clubs so there may be a chance that he could play against Man U should this be the case. May be wrong though but I think this used to be the case

I'll just check with :fattwat:

If you take sentiment out of it and knew we could get a good keeper permanently without spending a fortune, then another loan for Henderson is hard to justify.

The option of two outfield loans would boost our recruitment position massively.

Was he driving his Audi or Merc whilst being pursued??

I can't keep up with this Henderson thread craze!
I’m not usually enamoured by our thread police, but this one does seem a bit extravagant when there’s been another Hendo thread near the top of the GBC board since yesterday tea.

It's the usual story with loanees. If they play well, we fall in love with them and are pissed off when they go back. If they're no good, we can't get rid of them fast enough!

Obviously, goalkeeper is a vital position to get right (Derby's Roos will never get over his 'Karius' moment on Monday). But Simon Moore was good enough back then, Jamal Blackman was a trade-up and Hendo is an improvement on both. But, he's not perfect (no goalie is) and I just can't see him walking into the Man. U. team - not now they've simply got to play catch-up with the 'big boys'.

If Hendo goes, I've got faith in CW finding a good replacement. (I hear Leeds' Kiko Casilla might be available...)

We go with a feel good factor / camaraderie/ enthusiastic approach to signings.

Yes there will be better keepers out there. But he fits into what we want. There’s better players than ours in the championship yet with the above we beat the lot. Now we are going on a journey.

If we have a stormer of a season theres the possibility Mr Henderson may well change his mind about us. Hes highly unlikely to me number one choice at man u any time soon. Maybe never!

I don’t know. I’ve no idea what enquiries we’ve made about other keepers, what prices we’ve been quoted, what wages they want, what our budget is and how much of that we need to spend on other positions.

All that info is on here if you look........

Henderson perm or we move on for me too. Prefer the two loans to be used elsewhere and I don’t think I want my first choice keeper out for 2 games against manure

Like others have said, the disadvantage of having him here on loan, is raising his profile and eventual transfer fee beyond our reach if he has a good season.
The advantages of having him back, are, he is fully integrated with our defence and system of play, the fans love him and he has undoubted quality. If he helps maintain our prem status we will be in a better position to find a replacement next season or, if dreams come true, get him on a permanent deal, with a buy back clause from MU if that gets the deal done.

Yeah lets sack off an excellent keeper on a perfect loan deal for us and bring in Simmo, Mark Howard or the likes....

We simply have to get the right goalkeeper and i think loaning the best keeper from the Championship is the best option out there.

Personally i think the loaning of Henderson might just be the best bit of business we do in the summer, ticks so many boxes.

Spot on Swizzler, can’t think of a better loan option given last season’s display - why would we spend £10/15 million on a player whose position is well covered? Gives us more financial freedom for other positions.

Its a complete no brainer. We could spend all summer pursuing a keeper that ends up going elsewhere or only comes at the last minute.

Getting Hendo in and hopefully getting the deal done early means we know what budget is left for other players and we can focus on them.

Everybody's assuming that he'll be as good as last year, he may well be but hes still a young man who's never played against the quality he will next year, would everybody be ok dropping him and putting in moore, we'd have to have a youth team player on the bench or possibly playing against Manchester United as it is, I know we can only have 2 loan players next season I don't know whether we could have an emergency loan above that, I think we still need to buy another keeper even if Henderson comes

We do seem to have a fetish for loanee love-ins every few years....Brayford 5 years ago, Jon Harley to a lesser extent a few years earlier.

If you take the lessons from those and take the emotion out of the current situation then you would have to conclude use your head not your heart.

Head still says yes he is a good keeper and yes he would be a good fit but ultimately I actually think it depends on how we get on with recruitment on the other positions. We need several players across various positions with a limit on loanees so if we fill outfield positions with perm signings then yes use a loan slot for Hendo but if we find we need to use the loan slots for outfield players I wouldn't be concerned if we sign a perm keeper that isn't Hendo.

Is there as good out there for the same as or less than than Henderson will cost? I don't know, but I'd surprised if there were that many options that weren't also gambles.

The reality is that our squad isn't going to be made up of big money signings and established Premier League players. It's going to be comprised of sensible gambles. Best as I can tell Henderson is a decent punt.

I love Henderson and the part he played in last season's success. I would have him back for next year quite happily, but it is short term thinking as Man United see him as a future number 1, so it would be another loan. Is there a reason we arent going all out to get Jack Butland? He has said himself he wants premier league football.

Good player, knows the set up and individuals involved, wants to play for us and wants to push himself into the England side, affordable and with no long term risk.

Hard to find someone who'll beat all this criteria that we can get.

Another option is Nick Pope hope at Burnley, not their starter, has premier league experience and will be cheaper than Jack Butland...

Good signing if and when it happens.... and one that answers a significant questionmark around the squad.

Odds Hendo gets and England call up before the season is out?

Transfer with buy back clause would be my ideal option if it's between that and a loan to be honest

We buy him and Man U have the option of buying him back for 20m or so if he does turn out to be world class.

Saves our loan space, we can get him relatively cheap (circa £6m?) and Man U are happy if they turn out to get a worldy, although to be honest I cannot see this happening for the life of me unless he ends up as a world class keeper!

Think of it as an extended loan

The strength of any team starts with the spine.......

Build around that first, then add accordingly.

Is Henderson capable of being an extremely important part of this? Mentally? Ability? Intelligence?
