You may remember the first season Wilder came in he listed Coutts and Freeman among others. Those 2 mentioned had a brilliant pre-season, and managed to force themselves into the first team through injuries when the season started.

Both went on to play a key part in our promotion that season. This season we're in the Premier League, which is of course 3 leagues above League One and it will be far more harder to get into the team. However, who do you feel is most likely to turn Wilders head based on pre-season performances out of the current batch of Listed players?

Yeah, was thinking about Thomas too, he could be suited to the Premier League.

Seems to do well out on loan and is well regarded.

Thomas is the only one for me but it's unlikely.

Holmes deal is the football equivalent of buying an expensive settee only for it not to fit through your door and not being able to return it. He's been sat on the drive covered in slugs for ages. Hopefully the council come and put him in the scrap van.

The others are of an age where they'll want to play football while they're still decent, Heneghan is young but too slow for our style of play.

Utd still don't play with wingers so really can't see how Thomas would get in the side even if he was good enough (which he clearly isn't).

If Clarke was 5 years younger he'd have a chance but I'm afraid there'll be no way back for those listed.

He got games under his belt in L1 last season and is at an age where CBs often develop significantly.

Evans as well now he's had a good sustained run of fitness.

I recall a similar thread a year ago when George Long, Ben Heneghan, Louis Reed, Nathan Thomas, Samir Carruthers, Caolan Lavery and James Hanson were listed, and my answer remains the same: this is not summer 2016, and all the players listed will be moved on. The Coutts and Freeman listings were largely made due to a) financial considerations (which changed with Adams & DCL sold), and b) assessments based on reputations (which changed when they saw the players train and subsequently play). Wilder signed each of the players listed and does not need to see any more of the listed players to know they are no longer what we need. If any of them stay and are part of the 25 something will have gone very badly wrong with our summer recruitment.

LoughboroBlade fair assessment, most of these players are doing very well at league 1 level so could/should be on the radar of clubs moving up to the Championship might get a few quid for them who knows.

Me too but at his age and with the two injuries he’s had we won’t be seeing that Coutts. Heartbreaking, but there we are.

If we’re after players with potential, we can now afford to buy better potential than any of these offer.

In fact, that’s likely to be exactly our strategy as we cannot afford proven Prem players. So this lot have a very slim chance of staying.

Stick a sell on clause on Henegan and take what we can for the rest.

The difference is that the players Wilder took off the transfer list in that first season were at least players established at that level. Expecting players that haven't got into a Championship squad to get into a Premier League squad doesn't compare.

Top 3 all have played a part in our rise (Evans to p offs unfortunately!)

I think I can safely say that based on all known evidence, none of them will get anywhere near.

The fact anyone thinks Ched Evans and Nathan Thomas will be good enough for the PL when they're not good enough for the Championship, is disturbing frankly.

Ched Evans probably is good enough for the Championship now he's had a full season of playing regularly. We're not in it though, so he's still not good enough for us.

Clarke should have no problem getting a decent Championship move. The rest are League 1 at best.
