Forest's average attendance

Noticed they're third behind Villa and Leeds (us 5th) anyone know the reason why they got big crowds because they're shite:confused:Guessing being a big city and spent some money is a big factor?

Also i thought Norwich would've been above us because Carrow road is usually full but it holds 27k unlike our 32k:)
 



They were around the playoffs with Karanka for the most part of the season, which is probably why. They F**cked up sacking him

Might have something to do with the fact that their city rivals have for several decades been hovering between mediocrity and downight basket-casery, culminating in the loss of their league status this season. Sheffield's support is much more evenly spread over the 2 clubs.
 
Forest spent an awful lot of money. The hoofy nonsense they played at bdtbl was a mile short of what was expected. Joao Carvalho cost £13,200,000 last summer. That’ll sell tickets.

The way CW is going, hopefully over the next decade, S6 are playing stocksbridge and Sheffield F.C.

They have a distinguished past under Clough and as someone put further up, hysteria built up with the past two sets of well off owners who have spent decent cash on numerous players.

As is usual, shit choices of managers - which is why we need to hang onto Wilder et al. Occasionally you get decent managers come into football who prove they can do it everywhere they go - Wilder is a once in a generation manager and we've got him. We need to keep him, even if we get relegated next season.

My fear is IF McCabe wins the court case and sells us on - we might end up in similar circumstances of Forest/Villa/Leeds/Pigs.

Decent support in terms of numbers, but they spent a fortune and will have had high season ticket sales based on that.
A Premier League return ticket kind of thing. After all they're just as deluded as the porkers.
 
They have a huge number of uni students, and as mentioned With only County as competition Forest mop up most if not all of the students, add to that a 23 game season for £100 and why not?
nice ground, easy access, £10m +players and a good marketing strategy. Fair play to them
 
Yeah i live in Notts, it's essentially a one team city with the unfortunate plight of County.

Also consider this - population-wise Nottinghamshire is bigger than Sheffield (granted there is Mansfield included in that).

Sheffield has two teams getting in 90-120k in every month... whereas the Notts teams get 70k
 



I remember County being in the PL - before the top flight's name was changed to the PL. Warnock was manager and it was his first ever promotion to the top flight. Without checking, I think it was around 1988 or 89.

I remember the Lemmy documentary, when I think Lars Ulrich said that Lemmy was so old he could "remember a time before rock n roll existed." The same type of accolade could be applied to NW, who was actually managing a club in the top flight before the PL existed.

Saying that, Forest have always been the bigger club, I think, even pre-Clough.

2017 averaged 20,333.
Season ticket offer for 2018 and it rose to 24,860.
Big spending and a further offer saw it grow again for 2019.

That's a bit disingenuous, comparing the city of Sheffield to the entire county of Nottinghamshire. Nottingham is half the size (approximately) of Sheffield; South Yorkshire has a population of 1.4m and 5 EFL clubs compared to Nottinghamshire with a population of 0.8m and 3 EFL clubs at the start of the season - roughly the same number of heads per football club.

This is all about pricing and expectations. Clearly Forest's aim at the start of the season was promotion - they had Karanka in charge, were throwing money around (just don't question where the money comes from :rolleyes:) and had relatively cheap season tickets.

That's fantastic to see from a Championship club. Much as I hate Forest I really want to see a club do well while having that kind of pricing strategy. Basically show that the opposite of Chansiri is better.
 
To be fair as well, Forest's match-day ticket prices are pretty good too - especially for kids - under 11's typically no more than £8 and often only £5 meaning child and adult can get to a game for about £30 - which is plenty really. When you can also get England tickets for £35 for adult plus child it's possibly one area where United seem ever so slightly out of step.

Forest have a pretty captive audience in this county when it comes to attracting football fans being the only championship club.

Compare that to South Yorks - 3 championship teams, 2 league one teams. The footballing audience is much more spread across geographically in SY.

and in regards to comparing Nottinghamshire to Sheffield, bare in mind when looking at population a lot of the big suburbs of Nottingham which aren't far from city centre are actually classed outside of city boundaries - such as West Bridgford where the City Ground is.

Agreed, the ST pricing and spending has increased attendance in recent years
 
Strange but true facts

In the last 38 years, before this season, Forest have averaged over 25K only ONCE
When they got 25,916 in 1996. This is season is their best average attendance since defending the title back in 1979.

By comparison since 2007 we’ve averaged over 25K SIX seasons
Whereas since 2000 the Pigs have averaged over 25K TWO seasons.

Notts County were actually in the top flight for most of the early 80s- they had some decent players including Christie and Harkouk up front who by all accounts were absolutely unplayable on their day. They got relegated twice in a row though and Warnock gifted them double promotions to get back up there (both through the playoffs!).

Sad to see them in non-league. Hope they go straight back up.

Another strange but true fact.

Before the warrrrrrr, County were always consistently slightly better supported than Forest.

In fact in 1949 County averaged 30,003 in division 3 south finishing 11th, the following year they won the league (division 3 south)
and averaged a Nottingham all time record of a very impressive 35,176.

By comparison the highest average Forest have ever had is 32,715 in 1968 when the previous season they’d finished 2nd in division 1.

Nottingham Forest and Derby have both had decent/ good support since the 80’s
But before this (most of their history) their support has been surprisingly poor.
Even though both clubs have had massive success our all time historical average (with negligible success) is still higher than both clubs.

In 1947 they signed England International Tommy Lawton from Everton for a British record transfer fee despite that County were in 3rd division South. Lawton was on a part time contract with County as he "worked" for one of the County directors. All he had to do was to go in the office to "clock in" and then go out anywhere he wanted to. At the end of the day he would go back to the office to "clock out"

I’m sure that’s right but their average has shot up this season. We were in front of them last year with our (just short of) 27,000 compared to their 24,680. That’s a dramatic increase and surprised me as much as the originator. There must be a bit more to it.
