Normally I’d agree but Wilder seems to be able to pull rabbits out of hats.
The problem is CW will be looking for value for money but many clubs will now play games and double their asking price.
They’ll know we’re a PL club and even if we plead poverty, they know we are loaded, so signings might be more difficult than expected.

Hope I’m wrong but Wilder might be in for a shock when we target average squad players with big potential, someone like a Kieran Dowell or a Scott Hogan. We bid 2 or 3 million but the selling clubs asks for 10 million minimum.
Trouble is the biard know he can pull rabbits out of hats

Premier League clubs may not register more than two players on loan at any one time. - The maximum number of loans registrable in the same season is four, and, under no circumstances, shall more than one be from the same club at any one time.
In that case it does change things a bit. I’d expect two season loans in summer, but probably players that we know like Hendo and Dowell.

20-30mill + 2 loans in the summer and then see again in jan

He’s not forced to be chasing bargains.

That was needs must when we were funded by relatively poor owners.

We now get well on excess of £100,0000,000 from TV rights alone.

Wilder was asked in a Radio Sheffield interview, what type of budget he expects to be operating with over the Summer.

His exact words were, “Norwich City have already announced what their budget will be next year and I expect us to be in the same ball park”. He was referring to the reports that Norwich will make 20 million available for transfers over this Summer.

Wilder even admitted that he’s already been forward planning about possible PL status, so he’s drawn up a shopping list of players he’d like and given it to the club. He also admitted that he’s not spoken to anyone at the club yet about the exact figure regards his budget,

I'd trust him with any sum of money. Obviously the more he has the better, we know he won't spunk it.

But we'll have a shoestring budget, comfortably the lowest in the league.

Depends on whether you are asking the question regards how much to spend on fees only, or whether the figure has to include the wage bill rise

My opinion is £30m but that includes the rise in the wage bill

So, whatever last seasons wage bill was, plus the £30m

I reckon he will get about 30M upfront and another 10-15M in January, if we are in trouble. In any other manager's hands that might not seem enough but this guy can do a lot with very little.

You're suggesting Sheffield United … it's two joint owners facing a lengthy court battle … and with no real history of spending on players to speak of … will be splashing out munneh on actual players?

I wouldn't get too excited if I were some.

Trust Wilder and Knill and no one else.

I genuinely can't see it being £20mil+ but really do hope I'm wrong. Most players we sign will want £40kpw minimum, pretty much every championship player is on at least £20kpw these days

I’m not sure we can answer the OP’s question if we don’t know how many names are on that piece of paper CW has given the board, whether or not said players are available, and how much their clubs are looking for.

Then there’s the wages, another unknown, it’s all a bit arse about face for me

He needs whatever he says he needs. After doing what he and Alan have done in the past three seasons should we not ask him, he's not exactly known for overspending.

Anybody saying under £30m should realise we need 8 signings at the very least and that realistically only 2 can be loans.
They’re either thick or not in the real world when it comes to the Premier League these days. No question.

Circa £50mil. That’s what I think he SHOULD get.

What will he get? More likely £30mil. In my view not enough to buy the quality we require from the Championship in the quantity that we require it.

Dowell is out of contract in the summer so as he's under 24,the fee would be go to tribunal,I'd guess 2/3 million

Depends on whether we’d agreed a fee when we loaned him but guess it would be a higher fee than that

£40k per week is £2m a year. We get 85 times that amount for merely existing in he premier league.

IMO. New player contracts will need to be sructured so they're quite "lean" for the 1st year, rising on Utd retaining Prem status, falling if not. I.e fully incentivise it.
I'm sure Utd will be on to this.
Players not willing to trust in their performance and sign on as above aren't wanted here!
;-)

My figures are based purely on fees paid, not wages.

Regarding the premier league money. Last time we were there we spent one season in the prem and then another 13 out of it. That money is not to purely exist for one season, it’s to exist for the next few seasons.

Fulham spunked £100m... got relegated and were apparently terrible... we know we’ve got a healthy budget but we don’t have a stupid one.

Previous years relied on the owners funding the transfers themselves.

They don’t need to do that in the premier league.

At this point the value of getting a few wrong, especially those we didn't get (as they cost us nothing) comes into it's own.
'We think the lads talented but we have a team out on loan we thought were talented, it's X million or we're onto the next option.'

I wasn’t replying to you! :)

Fulham blowing it is not a reason to not spend money.

There’s a world of difference between the premier league of ten plus years ago and now. We’ll get £100,000,000 just for being relegated.

Where are people expecting the huge income to go? Are they accepting that the owners pocket most of it?

I'm suggesting that those two chimps could fucking shit all over any ambitions we have over transfers.

Think about it. McCabe wins. HRH would come away from that with (by anyone's reckoning) his £10m plus any 'realisation' settlement on that. It's an investment which, like it or not, has a dividend.

HRH wins. There's a heck of a lot of disentaglement to overcome with McCabe's involvement and ownership which would be spendy.

People talking about £x0m 'budgets' need to consider what the club, post court case, will be facing thanks to their idiocy.

HRH knows the value of his involvement … and strangely enough so does McCabe. Hence his recent 'club's for sale' statement.

I’ve been thinking about this since we were mathematically promoted and I’ve come to the conclusion of how the fuck is he going to get a big enough budget that’s required to do the job when we don’t even know who will be owning us next season?

The ownership issues really do need sorting out sharpish. This is the best chance in my lifetime to establish ourselves as a top club once again, let’s not spoil it this time.

Conclusion is I haven’t got a clue regards the budget but I think it should be in the region of £70M just on transfers and that’s only if Wilder needs it.

I don’t accept the premise that they are, or have been idiotic.

I do agree that we should be concerned about what comes out of the court case.

But I wouldn’t “accept” an increase in budget in the low tens of millions. There’s just no reason for it.

Lol that was a quick edit then!

You’re right. There is a big difference between 10 years ago. Mainly costs have shot up and the gap between income in elf and the prem has widened. We’ve been to league one and blew big money (relatively speaking) when we came down last time.

The owners may well take something out. There are other upgrades and activities going on as well at the club to ensure that we give ourselves every chance of being competitive

However, wages in 2018 at SUFC were 19m. Norwich 42m and Villa 61.5m. We were 7th lowest last season.

Our wage bill will rise, perhaps to near £30m, maybe higher. So even at the best case, we’re looking at £60m on wages and transfer fees...
