You can depending on the circumstances but I’m not getting into a debate about McCabe at a great time like this, this thread is fucking stupid!

Robson wasn't working in a club capacity and also mentioned other clubs as possible good buys. Nothing to do with McCabe Just another sad fallacy I'm afraid.

Of course you can have it both ways. Stupid not to.

It was he who hired and fired the series of shit managers we had. This cost us big cash and very possibly player quality. In fact, not just possibly - it just did. We 'bought' very little and sold any talent and made do for many seasons on dogshit and loans, playing under managers he'd hired and later had to fire. Wilder is a stroke of luck, and I don't really see the current team being anywhere near where we are without him. Not only has he made do with peanuts, we still spend small, we still sell players and have now confounded the real stats because of Wilder and the players getting his output rather than us having anyone who is singularly mercurial. Wilder and the chaps have done this despite McCabe's indicated reluctance to push game changing investment into the club. Why should he? He's lost so much and in some cases, I don't blame him. But suddenly, Wilder has brought this team of 'journeymen' into a cohesive, difficult to score against bunch of battlers and winners, many of whom were woefully shit under previous administrations. Now the real judgement is to fall upon the club - can they cut it in the biggest of big leagues? - he's shit a brick and wants to flog the club.

Bad Manager = Poor decision making

He's been wanting to sell the club for about 10 years, the only difference is that it should have just got a bit easier.

I'm out, haven't got the energy for this today.

    Not entirely sure what the shock is here?

    We've made it clear for some time that we are searching for investment, we've been approached by unscrupulous businessmen..isn't that par for the course?

    If the McCabe's had been involved in the meetings and/or done anything other than allowed a potential investor to visit the lane then perhaps there would be some heavy questions to be answered, but as it stands, we were approached by a dodgy character who failed in taking us over?

    That was nothing like taking the Prince - who oddly happens to be a real person - on board. Business partnerships often go downhill and litigation follows.

I'm with you on this. At a time of euphoria and celebration you have to ask why KM has come out and given this interview. He doesn't say anything we don't already know only to confirm the Court case is going ahead.

It seems the window of opportunity for both owners to put their differences aside, agree to disagree and put the Club up for sale without the need to go to Court has not been taken. That says it all about the two of them where they would rather have a public competition on whose got the bigger bollocks to the detriment of the Club rather than its benefit.

The fan base will take up entrenched positions on either side again as it did over Ched Evans resulting in a period of uncertainty that we can ill afford, especially when our stock is at its highest.

We should always be United never divided. The owners have shown their true colours for this reason I don't want either of them to be in charge of the Club moving forward.

We were clearly keen enough to explore it. We didn’t hide that fact either once it was revealed. This was, thinking back, a time we were desperate for money.

Sheffield United Chairman Kevin McCabe’s son Scott McCabe was pictured with Sim and members of the consortium on the pitch at Bramall Lane.

United confirmed they had met Joe Sim of London Nominees Football Fund as a potential buyer but insisted: “We can only strongly repeat what was said by director Scott McCabe in the Dispatches programme. The potential for any deal died a death.

“Our owners, as good custodians of the Blades, would always insist that any potential sale of the of club would be the subject of full due diligence checks. They are as concerned as anyone about the concealment of football club ownership and the issues of dual ownership. The McCabe family have a great love and affection for the Blades and will always have the long-term interests of the club at heart.”

As I said, Robson wasn't working for the club and the McCabes weren't interested. To compare it to bringing HRH on board - with his £17m - is laughable.

The tie up with Jacob Esan is a far better reason to have a pop. A directorship for an unknown bloke who's UK Plc was actively being struck off at the time!

I’m not comparing it to that, I’m simply saying we entertained him far from “this was nothing to do with McCabe”. It’s probably unlikely we’d have done so either without someone like Robson using his links into the club from when he was there.

You could flip it round and argue that rather than this be an alarming pattern of entertaining any potential investor if they say they have money, it should reassure us that having initially met the guy we clearly didn’t pursue it, as McCabe could clearly tell something wasn’t right. That’s certainly how I’d be spinning it at Team Echelon.

Robsons actions were nothing to do with McCabe. Robson made an introductio, the McCabes held their noses and walked away. A good decision in most people's minds I would have thought?

Not sure about the criticism of the timing of this announcement.

The club has global media coverage at the minute, which won't last the week. By doing this now, he gets it out to the widest possible audience before any pre-season stuff starts so also doesn't negatively effect the preparation for the new season. It also puts a bit of pressure on the Prince's team ahead of the court date to see if they want to follow suit or come to a settlement. I know I'm on the side of McCabe on most things, but the timing would seem to me to be ideal for both him and the club.
