He did also then say something like the medical team pulling out all the stops to make it happen so it might not be as clear cut as we all hope, but even on the bench Billy would be a massive lift for everyone.

Great news if true.

Sometimes you get injuries where you'll extend the recovery time by playing but you aren't at risk of permanent damage. At this stage there's nothing to save him for given he'll have the whole Summer to recover. If he misses the Ipswich game to play the Stoke game then he only plays once. Might as well risk him against Ipswich and maybe get two games.

It'd also be a novelty to have a player recover for the big game instead of getting injured/sunstroke/flu on the day of it.

Good option to have on the bench, he may only be “fit” for half hour or less, better off not starting him if that’s even a slight risk
