Being promoted at home

Since I’ve been watching the Blades we’ve not really had anything to celebrate at BDTBL. Sure we celebrated being Champions 2 years ago but we didn’t actually win it on the day.

In fact on 2 occasions we’ve actually been promoted and we weren’t even playing. 2 years ago we were champions without playing.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we did it against Ipswich at the Lane this year. Yeah, I know what you’re all going to say, one game at a time and whathaveyou and “let’s just get promoted”.

Would be nice though eh? UTB

In all fairness I completely get where you're coming from, and it would indeed be fantastic to do it at home in front of our own if it is to happen. Still feels like there's a long way to go until we can even contemplate such things.

My locations when it's actually happened are roughly....

1.At Mum & Dad's (living at home at the time)
2.As above
3.Bristol (although whilst being at Wolves it wasn't 100% mathamatical....but as good as)
4.In a bloody caravan....don't ask
5.At Mum's (temporarily returned home)
6.At home before a quick dash to the pub.

Its also worth noting that in order to "confirm" any potential promotion against Ipswich, we'd have to be 4 or more points ahead going into the game - as Leeds play their penultimate game the following day against Villa...

That's right. They lost 2-1 to Hereford the night before we played Rochdale. So again we were promoted without playing.

Leeds don't play until Sunday lunchtime though so it would have to happen the game before (unless they really collapse and West Brom come with a run)

Having experienced both several times, I can confirm that it doesn't matter where promotion is confirmed. Unfortunately, I can confirm that the same is true of relegation. I suspect that in the memory, the away day confirmations of promotion live longer, largely because it makes for a wonderful long day out.

4 straight games..they play Wednesday on Sky; Saturday tea time after we play Millwall; then they play Wigan after we play Forest. Then they at Brentford on the tea time after we play at Hull.

Recall us having to follow Wednesday a lot when we lost out in League One. Not sure which way round is easier but if I had to say I'd rather we play our games first and could put the pressure on.

What it does mean that the chances of us winning a game to go up are lot lower as in all likelidhood unless Leeds collapse; it would be about if they drop points probably in a game that follows ours. As others have said it does not really matter how we do it though!

Going on the most recent example we have (i.e. 2012) and looking at the last 10 games - our results on the right - theirs on the left:

Game 37 - Same time
Game 38 - Same time
Game 39 - We played after
Game 40 - We played after
Game 41 - We played after

Game 43 - Same time
Game 44 - Same time
Game 45 - We played after
Game 46 - Same time

We all know what happened after game 43 - but having watched the game against Stevenage (Game 45) the team looked under pressure - that being the first time that them lot managed to get above us.

No sweat, Villa are Leeds' penultimate game, not the final one. They might still have clinched playoffs by then but they may also be trying to finish 5th instead of 6th to avoid whoever finishes 3rd (unless I'm overthinking it - but that's what I'd want to do anyway).

A few weeks back Villa fans were just dreaming about the play-offs and finishing 6th.

According to the main Villa forum now it seems they are aiming for 5th place as they fancy their chances against West Brom over 2 legs and would prefer to avoid us or Leeds until the final.
