Well if we have learnt nothing else the last 3 results have shown what a roller coaster it is for Leeds just as much as it is for us. We were all doom and gloom with 1 result now it's their mood that's a big black cumulus cloud.
With great excitement and entertainment comes these massive mood swings

But it's what we missed for 6 years
Great to be so involved and great to be where we are

If it helps, look at it this way: Leeds have lost 2 of their last 3, with their victory coming narrowly at home to a side struggling against relegation.

Don't know if that means anything in the long run, but let's just hope that form continues.

Supporter confidence is incredibly fragile, mine is anyway. After the win v Leeds I felt cautiously optimistic but the loss against Bristol City knocked that out of me and I had visions of a two leg Play off v the oinkers.

It’s all changed again now, at least until W*dnesday evening. It’s a good job we have a squad of players with a bit more mental strength than me

It's all about the players.
If they hold their nerve we are free to rejoice or panic in equal measure.
Said all season this is the best all round team I've ever seen. The unity amongst them is outstanding

I think all footy fans are prone to mood swings, none more so than those who've followed the Blades for years and seen some incredible acts of misfortune and snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. For me though, there's something different about United ever since Wilder came through the door. Whatever else gets thrown at us, bad luck, injuries, suspensions, controversial decisions...etc., you know that there will still be one constant in our favour - a set of players that never give less than 100% and a manager that is always looking to win every game.

That draw at Ipswich, which provoked the majority on here to throw in the towel and claim "autos were off" seems a long time ago now eh? That to me was a classic post though and just summed up the irrational negativity that is quick to rise to the surface amongst many football fans. 6 games left now - and 18 points to play for. It's still any 2 from 4 looking at the table, at least mathematically. More likely though is that it's Norwich up as Champions and one other.

Could it be us?

What you describe is exactly right, but it is worth remembering that this irrational behaviour is much better than the alternatives - either not being a fan at all, or changing allegiance to whichever club (worldwide) is winning the most games currently. I am convinced that anyone who survives supporting United can survive anything life throws at them.

Mood swings have always been part of following the Blades.

I've had many in my 62 years but non as dramatic as the last few decades or so. Going from promotion with Colin, relegation, court cases, Weir, Adams, Clough, Adkins, to Chris Wilder, promotion, 100 points, an exciting first season and now now a minimum of the play offs.

I can say in the wider view I am really in a positive mood but individual bumps in the road like Ipswich and Brizzle quickly dent my confidence but not my mood.

The hundreds streaming out of the South Stand at 3-2 before added time had even been announced certainly weren’t. Some of our fans are so fickle they get pissed off when we lose a single game, even in this of all seasons.

Bought my Sunday paper this morning and turned straight to the sports pages to check the league table - to see if we were still in second place.

Yeah I was chuffed after Leeds and down after Bristol but nothing compares this season in terms of mood swings to the Villa game
where for days after I felt like shit....to compound things I was gutted for Sharp which should have been a great highlight in his career.
So onto Brum where the jug eared one is gonna take some stopping.

I just can’t bring myself to believe we will get promoted this season. It’s not in my nature to believe it before it’s nailed on, I do however think I’m a lot more positive nowadays than a few years ago.

if we more or less match results then the gd kicks in
if we lose more then its nullified

but form says leeds are crumbling more than us

I too have a feeling Preston will get something from Leeds, especially if they go at them like they did against us. Leeds just aren't as good defensively as we are.

In any case we still need something from Brum though.

Yes, in the absence of any footballing explanations I came to that conclusion as well

The last day at Stoke will be manic if us or Leeds are still fighting to be second.

Just imagine, it's 0-0 at Stoke and 0-0 at Ipswich and we have to better Leeds result. We go 1-0 up in the 90th minute only to hear that there's eight minutes of additional time at Ipswich.
