We were poor and deserved nothing, which is what we got. A point would’ve been unfair, 3 robbery. Remember that they hit the post and forced a great save out of Henderson as well. They attacked with pace & purpose and pinned us back all over the pitch. We huffed & puffed.
 
Too many of our players were strolling about after we went in front on both occasions. When we did actually press high up their defence looked very dodgy but we didn't do enough of that, Bristol City were quicker and better in most areas. I can't believe at 2-1 we didn't replace O'Connell with an experienced defender to see the game out Johnson is a poor wing back and an even worse defender and should only be used in an attacking role.
 
Don't agree we deserved a point but there's undoubtedly the potential for twists with ourselves and Leeds.

Norwich are over the line if not mathematically, but Leeds have a tricky three games on paper.

Today was huge for us and Leeds.

Leeds were coming off a loss to a promotion rival, lost their grip on the top two for the first time in an age, didn't have the chief defender or their regular 'keeper. They came from behind twice in a topsy-turvy game and won. This is despite all the predictions (from their fans as much as ours) that they were toast.

United came into today's game with promotion in their own hands for just about the first time, buzzing after a long overdue derby victory (remember when Wilder used to be so good at derbies?), in front of a full house, early goal to settle the nerves. We hadn't conceded in seven games, surely we could go on and win this one. We fell behind once in a topsy-turvy game and lost. The panic set in, it was clear to see all over the pitch.

Remind me which of the two teams is meant to be the one with all the mental strength, and which one is supposed to be falling apart again?

Never say never and all that but it will be a monumental achievement to come back from this double horrorshow. I wonder if finally being the team to catch but having to dwell on it for a fortnight due to the international break got to the players slightly.
 
We are punching above our weight, there will be twists and turns, would have snapped your hand off for a draw at 2-2, it's the championship, we'll be there or there abouts , it's a funny old game and sometimes I'm fed up with it.
 
We have blown it, the moment we put it all in our hands. 7 clean sheets on the trot and all the hard work undone in a shit show. I still can’t believe how poor we were.

Yesterday was 11/12 version of Oldham. Leeds will beat Birmingham and we will lose at PNE. Just need to prepare for play offs now.
 
Sounds like Leeds went at it at full tilt and dominated their game, even though they fell behind twice. They deserved to win and did.

We were half hearted, changed our tactics and were outplayed on our own ground. The players and Wilder (with his tactics and subs) blew a fantastic opportunity. It was unbelievably bad.
 
Silent mentions on another thread, that if we can still be within 2 points of Leeds after the next 2 games, then we would still have a decent shot at automatic, and I would agree with that. These next 2 games are horrible for us, given our record at those grounds.

In fact, I don't particularly like the look of any of our remaining fixtures as, just like with Bristol City, they are almost all against opponents that we've had real 'no-shows' against (Forest home and away, Hull away, Brum home and away, PNE home and away) in recent seasons.

If we could somehow be close to Leeds after the next 2, though, the fact that the Dirties have to play, in particular, 2 sides (Pigs and Villa) who are looking incredibly difficult to beat as well as go to Brentford where anybody can get a chasing when the home side are on song, would give us hope.

It remains to be seen, however, whether yesterday was the pivotal moment. Leeds have responded from the hammer blow of losing to their nearest rivals, and having had to endure that for 2 weeks, I can well imagine them now ruthlessly going out and making sure they won't have to feel like that again.

We, by contrast, have tossed away all of the toil we put into beating the likes of Boro, WBA, Brentford with 10 men, and Leeds, by putting in a turd of a show against Bristol City.

Can't help feeling that ultimately, the Dirties are going to be talking about "that 83rd minute" for years to come.
 



I agree, there will be some more twists. Neither Leeds or us are going to win every remaining game. West Brom are also not miles off either, so we can't rule out them being involved in some way.

Preston next week is a big one. They've had a decent season and it's a bogey ground for us. A big test, but hopefully, this team will do what it has done well for a while now - bounce back well.

You obviousy haven’t been watching both teams. Also in their last match against us Leeds didn’t force our keeper to make a single save, their goalie was the busier keeper. We had the best 3 chances in the match, Sharp had a one on one (brought down by the keeper) and Basham was clean through with 2 one on ones with just the keeper to beat.

Leeds were also poor recently against QPR, they tend to rely on steam rolling the opposition so need high intensity.
Without the high intensity they aren’t the same team. Doubt they can keep it up for the remaining 7 matches, so will drop points.

Norwich will need a massive collapse not to go up automatic, and it has started to look like a three horse race for second spot, West Brom (in fourth place) 10 points above 5th spot I think?
 
Bloke in front of us walking down the kop steps afterwards was telling his 7 or 8 year old lad; “Thats that over with. Blown it now. No chance”.

We (rightly) take the piss out of the pigs for brainwashing their youths with bullshit tales of massiveness and glory days that never were. But christ, as a whole, we dont half breed ingrained negativity.
 
It’s not over yet but if we lose or draw at Preston and Leeds win it will be almost time for the fat lady to break out the microphone.

Sorry but we had a perfect opportunity to keep our fate in our own hands and we fucked it up. Plain and simple. The top two have the edge over us and we’ll be left with the playoffs and given who’s in there. We’ll do well to get to the final nevermind get promoted.
 
I have never been an advocate of those saying things like "we are not ready to go up", it is clearly nonsense & you take what you can get, but we must remember just how fast our rise has been, to be fighting for an automatic promotion place in just our second season back in the Championship is a fantastic achievement. We have been right up there almost the whole time & our recent superb run has us dreaming of a swift return to the top league, & make no mistake we deserve to be up there, but if we end up in the playoffs it will still be a fantastic season for us. We Sheffielders seem to be a pessimistic bunch as a whole & have an almost expected attitude of not being good enough & falling at the last hurdle, but just to participate in the playoffs we will have exceeded expectations. Yes of course it is disappointing in the way we slipped up yesterday, but it isn't over yet, we are in there trading blow for blow, we regroup, learn & come out fighting for the next three points on offer against Preston.
 
No sensible person will be thinking this is all over just yet. All through this season points have been dropped unexpectedly by both Leeds and Sheff Utd and there's nothing to suggest it won't happen again. One thing is sure it's far better this than sitting in 13th with feck all to look forward to.


PS yes I'm on another teams forum here but I do post on ours as well ...promise .... honestly.
 
just as when we beat leeds it wasnt job done. bristol city is npt doom & gloom. defeat wasnt shocking it was 2 quality goals potentially against the run of play. we back to our normal self 2nd half

all 3 teams will drop points at some point. stop panicking ive said since January this is going to the final day

Yeah, agreed. They've got the players and got rid of Moore in the nick of time to turn it around.

Norwich are 7 points clear of us, WBA are 6 points off 2nd. How have Norwich made it but WBA are now in it? Because of that 1 point?
 



Mathematically we must be close to securing a play-off place eh

If not and we miss out
All our first team will have left the club by August

And if Prince wins his court battle against McCabe

He’ll have sold off Bramall Lane by the end of the year
