Marvin Johnson stick or twist for next season

Gets stick no matter what he does. Nearly created a equalizer at the end when he headed the ball back across the box for Hogan but a defender blocked Hogans header. He didnt cost us the game or the goals. For me as I mentioned on other posts I think the change of formation is far more criminal than anything Johnson did.

What was he doing? HE didn't play a defensive part in their second & third goals . Unfortunately he's not good enough in attack or defence.

I said st the time it was a brave decision to bring him on but with so few games left we shouldn’t be taking unnecessary risks when leading 2-1. It should have been Stearman for me who can use both feet. I’m not blaming Johnson for the defeat but we were all at sea after he came on. A poor decision from Wilder but I’m sure he will dust us down and get us going again next week

Just seen the third goal on the highlights worse than I thought in real time.

Truly pathetic from him.

Sad if all folk can do is scapegoat players such as Johnson. I wouldn't have put him on but thought he did OK when he came on. Defo not at fault for any of the goals. Get lifes death eaters.

Eh? Weiman was his man on the back stick but instead he got drawn forward and left him with yards of space. Not challenge for the first goal and didn't even look remotely concerned. Who else was supposed to be marking him then, dickwad*?

The second one he allowed himself to get done to the ball, offered zero challenge and watched Weiman drift past him, again.

Anyone tell us why he didn't bring Stearman on - a centre back rather than a winger?

pommpey

*Johnson, not you Iceybaby

Having just watched the goals back I stand by what I said that Stearman should have been on instead. Johnson has more than 1 to mark at the back for the second goal. That wasn’t his fault but it was criminal that he didn’t pick up EITHER of their players. As for the 3rd goal. deary me. Let’s just say he defended like a winger. If anyone’s in doubt then it back. Agreed that we had too many not on top of their game though. Norwood in particular had a real off day for me

I’d say you need to have a look at the highlights. Partly to blame for the 2nd. Definitely to blame for the 3rd

Don't think you can square the blame on one single player, except in rare circumstances, but to say he had no fault in any of the last two goals is mystifying.

Don’t really see what he offers, has some pace but no end product
Definitely would not keep him next season

Not saying it`s his fault but his body language and disinterest at the ball hitting the back of the net on both occasions is on a par with the look I got from one of my dogs on finding a big steaming pile sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor yesterday morning.

My mistake, just watched the highlights back and didn't realise he put the soft challenge in for the third or was marking Weiman for the second as people sat to front/left of us kept standing up at every moment. The second goal shows he's not a defender, didn't have a clue where he or Weiman was.

I didn't understand the sub at the time tbh and it would have made more sense to chuck Stears on and shift Egan into LCB.

He is your typical bang average lower end Championship/League 1 winger. Lots of pace, runs with his head down and has barely any quality in the final third.

He’s awful. At fault for both their goals when he came on. Not sure why Wilder put him on though

Certainly not a wing back so it’s a no from me.

No comment on the rest of his play

I’m not particularly anti Johnson, but he looked totally at fault for their third goal he just stood and watched the player stroll past him. I haven’t seen it again, but that’s how it appeared to me.

Unbelievable lack of aggression and desire, hanging on to a 2-2, under the cosh and he just fucking stands there, while he goes past him. If it was as bad as I thought it was, he’ll never play for us again

That said, it was a bizarre substitution in the first place, Cranie has being superb when called upon, surely it was a straight swap for O’Connell?

Wilder said he brought him on as we had to get a goal, in the post match interview, but I thought we were 2-1 up when he came on?

Johnson is not going to be here next season no matter what happens but, it's a good excuse to have another go at him. Poor performance from the majority of the team today but luckily MJ came on late thus providing the perfect scapegoat.

He was not at fault for the loss. Ridiculous to blame him. Blame the two midfield lads who stood off for 90 mins and invited runners or ball after ball into the final third. Not cool to criticise Fleck or Norwood though. Both were shit today.
Fleck was shit? Wow! He was the only player in the second half to grab the bull by the horns and take the game to them for a 20 minute spell, coincidentally we scored after our best period in the game in which Fleck was instrumental in it.

Johnson has to follow his runner or mark him so he can be blamed for atleast one of the goals.

Norwood didn’t have his best game today but again I wouldn’t say he was shit, we were just playing so pedestrian like for the majority of the game and it just doesn’t suit us.

Sorry but Johnson was piss poor today. He lost track of weimann for 2 goals having just seen the highlights!!!.
They were basic mistakes and he looked out of his depth today.
Am I right in assuming that he’s only on loan with us and we can send him back to boro at the end of our season?. UTB ⚔️

That was as bad of a performance as iv seen for a long time.

Dribbled the ball out of play 3 times, crosses were pathetic and to top it all off his defending for their 3rd goal was horrific. Turns his back and jumps in the air, he should just clear that.

Stick or twist???? I never want to see him in a United shirt again.

Johnson is probably the thickest player we've ever had.

Absolutely hideous player.

He's barely played this season yet the number of Sunday league moments from him is off the scale.

But let's not pretend he's to blame today. Wilder is for bringing him on. And I highly doubt the patting ourselves on the back trip to Valencia did us any favours.

Hmm not sure on that first point

They literally scored from the free kick from which O'Connell had gone off. Stevens had moved inside and he was left, the defence had not rearranged themselves.

I do wonder though why crainie or stearman didn't come on as a straight swap
