How will we go?

Obvious choice is Sharp and Mcgoldrick but McG has just played two tough international games in four days leading the line on his own and Wilder has not been keen to play his strikers in three consecutive games in ten days this season.

Hogan is next in line if CW decides McGoldrick needs a rest but he looked way off it against Brentford even before we went down to ten men.

Washington? Looked like we had seen the last of him but now may come back into contention.

The Madine suspension is looking hurtful at the moment, I was never in favour of him coming here but he had looked a decent option before his stupidity against Brentford.
 



The Madine suspension couldn’t have come at a worse time, Preston to follow as well.

I might start Hogan tbh against Bristol and then McG at Preston.

Washington would be way down the list for me.
 
He'll mix things up this weekend. Play Henderson up front and we'll play 'goalie wag'.

Whatever Chris and his team do I've every confidence.
 
If Hogan can not manage to get some significant pitch time in the next 2 games, his loan signing will most probably go down as somewhat of a mistake.

FWIW, and for the reasons stated above, my front 2 for Saturday would be Sharp and Hogan with Duffy in the 10 behind.

Dependent on how things go, this can be changed with Dids or Dowell coming on. This might mean a slight change in formation with a sole striker with two tens in behind.

Considering some of our players have been on international duty I think he’ll go with Sharp and Hogan with Duffy in behind, I can’t see Wilder doing anything else considering how he’s approached games in the last few seasons after a sustained run of games. He’s also said he’ll be rotating the squad.

Edit: what DronnieBlade put above, although I disagree with the Hogan signing being a mistake as he’s also been brought in to keep our strikers on their toes which they all have been. A loan signing doesn’t have to play all the time if the influence it has on the field of play pays off.
 
Can see McGoldrick having a rest. Would be 3 games in 7 days for him which is too much of a risk to start him again.

Will have to be Sharp and Hogan which isn’t ideal but should be enough to get past Bristol. Duffy needs to start if McGoldrick doesn’t.

Don’t get me wrong Wiz. I don’t believe it is a mistake. Yet !

The point I was making was that the next 2 games are crucial for Hogan. Game time, and a requirement to impress will be imperative.

If not, the return of Madine will most likely push him back down the pecking order.

I can’t be the only person that thinks Hogan has looked decent?

He needs to learn a bit of intelligent aggressiveness from Billy’s game, and be a bit more snappy in this way.

But apart from that I like him. Absolutely love that instant pace over the first 5 yards. The amount of times he’s nipped the ball from someone (or nearly has) has been noticeable.

I’ve been happy with what he’s given us against the limited minutes he’s had.

So, you like him because:

He needs to learn a bit of intelligent aggressiveness.
Needs to be a bit more snappy.
Has nearly nipped in and won the ball sometimes. :eek:

I’m certain we’ll have closely monitored McGoldrick’s games this week, so you would think Wilder, Knill and Prestridge in particular will have a good idea about whether McGoldrick is fresh enough to start. If he isn’t, it’ll be Hogan. If he is, you would expect if all is well that we will sub him around the hour mark.

With Hogan being perhaps more suited to a game where there might be space in behind, I think he might be more likely to feature at Preston than on Saturday.

He hasn’t played any more minutes than Enda and no one has said he won’t be fit enough.

Indeed, but then we haven’t been subbing Enda when he’s generally started, nor rotating him with other options for the position, and he didn’t come to us with a history of injuries. We’ve carefully managed McGoldrick this season to maximise the amount he can play, meaning he doesn’t always start if he’s played a lot in a short period of time, and I don’t think we’re suddenly going to bin that approach.

Understand you’re thinking on that but I think we will need our A+ team playing at Preston

For a player that was supposed to be injury prone we’ve managed him very well. I guess he’ll fly back today and get assessed tomorrow. It’s only a short flight so he won’t suffer like a player does when they have to fly back from Africa or Eastern Europe.

I’m just glad him and Enda didn’t pick up injuries.

Should we be worrying about McGoldrick?

I mean one of the games was against Gibraltar who are little more than a decent pub team and the other one was Georgia who aren't very good either.

Let's go glass half fill and say that McGoldrick is match sharpened
 
If he feels like he can start I am sure he will be wanting to. He will be full of confidence after 2 wins and impressive performances for him and a MoM performance last night. He will be back and ready if that means him starting or on the bench I am sure he will be buzzing to get on the pitch at some point and could well sway the game for us even if he comes off the bench. The rest of the team will have had a well deserved rest so maybe play him and maybe not having him tracking back as much and letting Billy do the graft after his rest. I am sure mcgoldrick and wilder will be having a chat and what ever he decides I am happy with. Theres even option of playing 2 number tens in Duffy and dowell and having dowell just behind sharp providing back up for sharp.
 
Hogan with Sharp from the start, if we're at it, we'll create chances and he'll get a goal.

Hogan has done absolutely nothing to deserve to start. Regardless of how little we suit him.

McGoldrick is in top physical condition and has been for a while. I'm sure he can handle another start. He's not some crock, he's a good athlete. He also played well for Ireland last night so he's in the groove.

We can't be fucking about with this game either, it's a must win, like all the other home games. Bristol City have had a very good defence this season. We can't just weaken our attack and expect to get away with it. We can't have any international break hangover. We have to smash this game from the start. Hogan or Dowell/Duffy can come on for McGoldrick if need be.

I'm confident for this game as long as we start Sharp and McGoldrick. Preston is where we really could've done with Madine.
