I don't get the love-in some fans have with Dean Henderson. He's a good keeper but he'll be gone at the end of the season and someone else will fill his boots. Remember Jamal Blackman...?
I never got the Blackman thing but Hendo is a couple of points better, he's no Paddy Kenny or Alan Kelly but we have been lucky with some of the fantastic keepers we've had.

I wouldn't put Kenny anywhere near on a level with Kelly. I personally think that the best keeper we've had since the Kelly/Tracey/Rees era was Ian Bennett and he couldn't get a game.

I used to love how Simon Tracey used to piss about at goal kicks when we were leading, took an age and neve4 got booked

They should have contactless only fast lanes for the food and drink areas

Something certainly not right going off with the first batch of tickets being sold last night, know a few and was talking to some last night who hadnt been for years or even had a season ticket but had been offered tickets via corporate/club

Surprise surprise.

Wonder how many they set aside for the more important humans? And their friends and family?

As always, there will have been plenty in the away end who shouldn't have been.

Mind you, even those around me near the back (the ones who weren't old women) hardly seemed interested. The mentality of many seems to be 'I'll only sing if we're winning or look like winning, otherwise what's the point'.

It winds me up when...
....fans want to 'sack the board'.
....fans think McCabe is actually making money out of SUFC!
....fans ask 'wheres the Brookes, Maguire, Walker transfer money gone'....

Yeah....so mainly our own fans :p

Sharp was a liability against Wednesday. There was more chance of him getting sent off than scoring.

Dennis Longhorn was 10 years ahead of his time. How he never played for England is a real mystery.

2 lads near me couldnt even understand their ticket or where they were meant to be sat. Could hardly speak any english and i had to point them to their seat!

Our current team isn't as good as the 2002-03 Warnock team.

I know this thread is an opportunity to counter current perceived wisdom, but the above can't go unchallenged.

Tonge, Jags, McCall, Nuddy and Kabba maybe but it wasn't that great a squad. The fact that Mark '2-Kyles' Rankine played a part, is proof enough.

The 2002-03 team smashed Wednesday at Bramall Lane, beat runaway champions Portsmouth on their own patch and won 4 matches against Premier League teams in the cups.

And I don't really get your Mark Rankine point. There are plenty of turkeys who have played for us this season. Bryan, Woodburn, Johnson, Evans, Leonard, Washington...

IF we get promoted:

I wouldn't mind if we didn't sign a single player for the entirety of next season because:

1. The current squad all deserve their chance in the PL without anyone new getting in the way, who could also disrupt the harmony

2. That means we use the money to:

a) Pay off all the outstanding debts

b) upgrade the stadium where needs be, plus scouting infrastructure, academy etc for the next generation

c) Save up for the 2020-2021 campaign and long term be financially stable and/or independent of McCabe

3. I'd be genuinely interested to see how far this current group can actually go

--

Last thing I'd want us to do is to risk blowing it on a load of crap and struggle thereafter like Fulham have done/will have to

The last time we went up we also neglected to strengthen the first team, preferring off the field ventures like hotels, Ferencvaros, Chengdu Blades etc - trying to build our global brand for the future.

By doing this we set ourselves back a fucking decade.

No, we can ill afford to stand still, squads constantly have to evolve or they fall behind.

They also finished 18 points behind Portsmouth and 12 points behind Leicester, and lost at the Sty. We were never in an automatic promotion race really, the promoted teams were too far ahead and we had a bad start.

There were far more poor performances that season - great though it was - than we've seen this season. Walsall (H) and Wimbledon (A) spring to mind. We also lost 4 league games on the bounce at one point, didn't we?

What I am prepared to accept is that Michael Brown's season was better than any season one of our players have had this time around.

They don't deserve anything. They've been paid for their services. I can see the argument for using many of the same players, but if there are better ones out there we should try to get them.

Its an interesting discussion to have, let's hope it become relevant and I can post a separate thread about it!

Can certainly see both sides to the 'argument', but we all hope there is a strategy going forward.

Also genuine lol at the poster who slated Basham ;)

Was it something Ched related?

Haha fair guess, I tried to quote the person who slated Basham but wouldn't let me only quoted me slating him for slating Basham from last month.

Serves me right for repeating myself!
