I'm shocked by how many people on here, at the match and on social media don't actually know the rules of football yet.

I made the same point the other day. I think it should be a 3 game ban. Madine's was clumsy but without intent. Casilla intended his foul to stop a goal scoring opportunity, and was equally clumsy in the execution of the foul. It just doesn't seem right that one should get a 3-match ban and the latter a 1-match ban!

and to those who think it is right... will you still feel the same if Leeds go up on goal difference?

Would the ref upgrade the reason for the card to mean a 3game ban? Or would it be a case of Sharp fell awkwardly, as a result this is an accident. so whilst your man is out injured for weeks, the keeper only gets a 1 game ban for a block rather than dangerous play?

Denying us a certain goal, what if the score had been 0-0. The keeper gets sent off with the loss of 2 points = 1 game ban
Wether you deem Madines challenge reckless or not he got sent off.= 3 game ban..........WHERES THE JUSTICE THERE!!!
Thankfully that wasn't the case on Saturday but if such instances can be that detrimental denying a CERTAIN goal should =3 game ban.
Rules need changing.

Its not a certain goal though is it?? In all likelihood he would score of course, but, nothing in those situations is certain. He could trip himself up, slip when about to put it into the net, miss the target, hence why the laws talk about denying a goalscoring opportunity. Madines tackle could end someones season, potentially career if it goes even more wrong, and imo was a cowardly tackle, the one fellow footballers hate as its designed to hurt someone rather than anything else

Don’t see the argument really. One is a professional foul and one is serious foul play. One is in the attempt to stop a goal, one is endangering an opposing player. Should it not be obvious that one is worse than the other? For what it’s worth I think Madine knew what he was doing.

If its not deemed to be dangerous play, which it wasnt on saturday, and the 'victim' of the foul got injured then it would only be a one game ban. That would be incredible unfortunate and terribly bad luck and on the surface doesnt seem fair, but people get injured all the time when someone fouls them

yes. as that's the rules. and there's no guarantee Billy would score. And if Leeds get promoted by a single goal, id be more concerned about us giving away last minute goals at Villa, Rotherham, home to stoke, letting Villa score at home when we were comfortable, same with Preston at home or McGoldrick missing his pen against the pigs, or Billy missing one at Millwall (i think it was Millwall)

People bringing Madine's red into this and trying to justify his reckless challenge are being a bit embarrassing. No way on earth would anyone be defending the same tackle made by the player of another team against one of our players. We would be calling him a dirty bastard. A red card and one match ban for Casilla is in keeping with the rules as they have been for ages and although there is always a question of whether the punishment is harsh enough for cynical fouls preventing goals, crying about this one after we won anyway looks very small-time.

It's not knowing, it's the ref's interpretation that’s the problem.

Man City's first two goals against Watford were off side but were allowed to stand.

Same thing happens to us against Leeds and for the first time in my life I see an offside freekick awarded six yards inside the Leeds half against a Leeds player.

in that case....No there's no such thing as a cert goal, but t's Billy Sharp, no way he misses that 99.99% a goal.
My real point though is a 1 game or 3 game ban (not that a 3 game ban would've justified a loss of points anyway)
As mentioned by somebody above authorities reviewing the issue afterwards may be relevant....but this was a blatant foul denying a goal.
There are two concerns here. 1. Serious foul play = 3 game ban
2. Denying a goal scoring opportunity. = 1game ban
Both are contentious issues but a punishment should be relevant to the crime, especially in a game of such importance.

Yes that tackle saved Leeds GD and damaged ours,I'm just glad the savage goon didn't injure Sharp.The scum looked quite happy with a smile on his face when he walked off .

What about Kieran Gibbs tackle on Freeman in the West Brom game. No free kick given, maybe advantage played, but didn’t go back after and offer any card. If Baldock’s should have been red, then that certainly should have been. Also from the Leeds game last year, was it Alioski who lunged into Freeman and got booked, when it should have been straight red? Put Freeman out for a while. But it’s all down to how the referee see’s it. And all referees, good or bad make mistakes. You have to just to accept it.

The worst tackle I've seen in the last few years was Calvin Phillips at Leeds last season, even worse than Kieron Gibbs tackle.
At least Kieron Gibbs could claim that he was genuinely going for the ball but was late and was fooled by Freemans quick feet.

you are right with that - I ran the incident through freeze frame and at point of contact, his boot was flat on the pitch - the Leeds player made a right meal of it.

Well done to the ref not to fall for the disgraceful attempts by the Leeds players to get him sent off.
