Madine gets a straight red and a three match ban for a clumsy challenge on the halfway line which even the Brentford manager deemed only warranted a yellow card. Something strangely wrong here.

Makes sense to me....dangerous play can end/ ruin careers......where as professional fouls (cheating) doesn’t.

So the league are rightly giving extra punishment to anything relating to career ending challenges.

In real time the Baldock challenge looked probably a red card, however when you see the replay you can see he pulled out at the last second and there was actually minimal contact, so a yellow looks the correct call.

If Baldock had received a red card, then he’d probably also be out for a 3 match ban.

You could argue one was deliberate the other was clumsy, I’m not going to as the rules are known and Madine’s actions could (despite not being intensional ) of injured the player.

What about Kieran Gibbs tackle on Freeman in the West Brom game. No free kick given, maybe advantage played, but didn’t go back after and offer any card. If Baldock’s should have been red, then that certainly should have been. Also from the Leeds game last year, was it Alioski who lunged into Freeman and got booked, when it should have been straight red? Put Freeman out for a while. But it’s all down to how the referee see’s it. And all referees, good or bad make mistakes. You have to just to accept it.

I'm perfectly fine with the rules as they are (i.e. one match for preventing a goal scoring error, and three for dangerous play). There's an argument that Casilla's tackle was dangerous - imagine a midfielder doing that someone in the centre circle - but that's another matter.

What I've often found frustrating is the consequences of the suspension system, and who benefits from it. If a player breaks someone's leg in injury time, the red card will be of very little benefit to his opponents on the day. However, his suspension may well rule him out of games against the first club's rivals in a promotion/relegation battle. Whilst we undoubtedly benefited from Will Vaulks' red card against Rotherham (and luckily Baldock wasn't injured), it was a bit annoying that he was missing from their game against Norwich. His long throws, especially in home games, can be a real threat, and that made Norwich's life a bit easier. It would have felt even more annoying if his red had been later in the game against us (and doubly so if Baldock had been seriously injured).

It's hard to think of a perfect solution, but one option would be for that player to be banned for his next game (or three games) against the same opponents. There are a number of pros and cons to this:

- It could mean that some suspensions never end up being served (i.e. if a team / player moves to a higher or lower division)
- It wouldn't work for one-off cup games against teams from very different divisions (e.g. Arsenal against York City)
- It wouldn't address suspensions arising from cumulative bookings
- It could mean that some particularly dirty players build up a catalogue of teams that they're not allowed to play against for a year or two (although that seems fair to me)

However, it would avoid the issue of benefiting the victim club's rivals, and would mean that the punishment more properly fitted the crime in most cases.

Just saying it’s the rules is an odd argument. Are we not meant to discuss whether we think the rules are right?

There are countless mentions of handball, offside, Tevez saga, shepherding the ball out, every bad tackle we make or suffer, VAR, just to name a few.

If they’re not up for discussion, we may as well say “that’s the result” and not talk about whether we played well or not. Takes the fun out of it I reckon!

you are right with that - I ran the incident through freeze frame and at point of contact, his boot was flat on the pitch - the Leeds player made a right meal of it.

Well done to the ref not to fall for the disgraceful attempts by the Leeds players to get him sent off.

Taking my red & white specs off, I think Madine's was worst, as he could have seriously injured the Brentford player. With the Leeds keeper, it was more of a block/barge.

Correct - who ever was doing the summary that match said "red card all day long" - just a crap ref that evening.

Now the ref on Saturday got the Baldock decision spot on - although considering the reaction of the Leeds players, he did well not to be influenced and got the decision correct.

Denying us a certain goal, what if the score had been 0-0. The keeper gets sent off with the loss of 2 points = 1 game ban
Wether you deem Madines challenge reckless or not he got sent off.= 3 game ban..........WHERES THE JUSTICE THERE!!!
Thankfully that wasn't the case on Saturday but if such instances can be that detrimental denying a CERTAIN goal should =3 game ban.
Rules need changing.

I think that the match referee should, as part of his duties, have to review the TV footage of a match, and have the authority himself to retrospectively issue cards.
