One example that sticks out in my mind goes way back to the 1953 / 54 season when we played the pigs in the FA cup .
We got a one all draw at Hillsborough and I was there , along with over 60,000 others and felt very confident about the replay at the Lane , where we had already beaten them earlier in the season .
This was on a Wednesday afternoon and coincided with my form's games afternoon so the Games Master asked us if we wanted to go there instead , which we did .
In the first half we played them off the park and went in one nil up and at the start of the second half ( after Finney had equalised for them ) one of their defenders , a nasty little cunt called Vince Kenny got sent off for a vicious kick in the bollocks on Jimmy Hagan - game over I thought . Wrong .
As the match progressed it started to snow and this quickly developed into a blizzard which was blowing straight into the face of Ted Burgin in our goal . With about 10 minutes left one of their midfielders shot from about 25 yards and , undoubtedly affected by the conditions , he let it go past him . To rub salt in the wounds , the jammy bastards scored again and had knocked us out of the cup which , in those days , was every football fan's dream .
I still bear the scars .
