I can forgive the 'organised and hard-working' responses for once. We were. We had to be. We did a lot with very little second half (the goal and a handful of other chances - Egan's miss, McGoldrick's pass when he should have shot etc). Mostly it was backs the the wall, desperate blocks and repelling umpteen crosses. Which is fine, that's what it takes sometimes.

A Brentford fan would be well within he rights coming away from that match thinking we were a solid, gritty side.

Well said. After that bonkers and totally untypical match, I think we can afford to be magnanimous. Imagine if we had travelled 160 miles to watch a game on a wild night like that, seen the opposition go down to 10 men, and then defend for an hour without letting a goal in, I don't think most of us would be focussed on expressing our admiration for the opposition. It looked to me (and I too judge the opposition on the games I watch them play against us) that if they could add the passion, togerthness and teamwork that we played with last night to the lovely skills their players undoubtedly possess, they would be around the top of the league. I am not surprised they don't know how well we normally play. That was not a normal match for us.

I don't mind Brentford the club, but just who do their fans fans think they support ffs, yes they can be easy on the eye at times & try & play the right way, but Bayern Brentford they are not, does their geographical location give them an inflated sense of importance or something?

Agree with the style, you do what you have to. Ill just never understand the "all your players are shit" comments. Same things come from Wednesday. They obviously aren't shit, we are 22 points above Brentford who are only 2nd to Brazil '70

What's this guff about not swapping any of their players for ours? As for having better players, am I the only one to see a huge gap between their league position and theirs? I suppose that happens because they have better players.

Whatever they say about Egan, we're getting far more out of him than they ever could, and as for letting JOC leave, please, do us all a favour and stop moaning about why you did this or that. Tactically we're a better side, and whatever their bunch of Bees might like to think, they cannot get one over us. Fact.

I see a few wittering about having 29 shots, but 16 of those were from outside the box and 9 blocked. It wasn't exactly a peppering - just 5 shots on target in the end. They ran out of ideas and always looked susceptible to conceding.

Just a shame Egan and O'Connell don't fit I to their total football style which has seen them hit the heights of 15th this season. They definitely don't need centre backs almost exactly like them.

Another thing they need to add to their play is self discipline.

On the 9th and 12th minute they were enjoying good spells of play and instead of remaining patient they decided a long shot at goal was the answer. On both occassions the ball ended up in the Kop.

Used to see this a lot in League one. Players lose their heads and think they can deliver a worldly.

We on the other hand continue to probe and look for new openings. Doesn't always work but that self discipline is key to passages of play in other parts of the pitch.

nice to see at least this guy understood what he was watching, & knew that is the expection not the rule. because at 10men we could tell that Brentford were playing well, we were going have to hang on & the fact that we struggled through maybe tension to keep possession. it wasnt ever going to be pretty

That's fair, we didn't show much quality and if I was a Brent fan I'd be thinking we are up against it against leeds but I think the starting top 3 will be switched on Sat which will be our best team.
Their performance reminded me of us this time last year, all the possession with little killer instinct. Oh, and missing and a couple of gladiator centre halves that can actually play a bit!

JOC and Egan don’t suit their ‘style’. They think they would be higher in the table if they defended better. Ergo their style is partly poor defending. JOC and Egan are too good for them, and that’s why they are in a title race while their former club languishes in mid table.

Also a note to all fans of the other 23: your comments about not swapping for any of our players are pointless. None of our squad would swap the Blades for you.

The last post on that thread at 16:34 by TheHairdresser talks about a slope across the Lane pitch dropping about 5 or 6 foot ...... I haven't ever noticed that, or am just always too pissed to notice????

Definitely is one, my mates lads were ballboys a while ago and they were told during the tour that the pitch sloped toward the John Street stand. Our players are aware but opposition quite often misjudged it. Not sure it’s as much as six feet mind. That said I’m sure someone will know

Is that why the Bramall Lane stand has more seats on the John Street side? I always assumed it was just built on the piss haha

6' across 72 yards (if you include the strip of turf in front of John Street probably 74/75 yards) seems too much. I'm trying to imagine someone standing on a 6’ wall 72 yards from me and wondering if it'd still look like they were a lot higher than me, I think it would.

That'd be a 1" drop every foot wouldn't it?

There are at least a couple of extra rows in the BLLT towards John Street though which would support the drop being about 6', or that the stand is just wonky.

I'm more interested in the South Stand having buried terracing for future expansion, I think that's a load of bollocks to be honest but I wasn't there at the time. Would be interested to hear from anyone that knows for sure.
