To balance my slightly negative thread from last night...

I don't know if the rest of you, like me, find it hard to enjoy Sheffield United moments that ultimately went nowhere. I've no interest in rewatching great goals in games in which we lost, for instance. Great comebacks, great runs, mean little to me if a season ended in failure.

I'm trying to stop that way of thinking though. After all, where does it end? Is a promotion retroactively tarnished if we get relegated the following season? What's the point of winning the FA Cup if you fail to retain in.

I try to hold on to how I felt when we scored twice in the first half at Wembley against Hull. And I'll hopefully never forget that blend of relief and elation last night when McGoldrick scored the second. However this season pans out, the lads have been brilliant and we've had plenty of cracking moments.

For me football is about the little moments.

The adrenalin rush when something extraordinary happens, good or bad, the anger when things go against us and the joy when they go for us.

It's not about winning trophies, it's about taking each game as it comes and being in the moment.

I also don't let my highs get too high or my lows get too low.

Guess I'm just about the opposite of you ;)

I think you have to live in the moment enjoy it for what it is. Last night enshrined all that is marvellous about being a Blade and I’m still buzzing. Whatever happens this season we have been spectators to a feast of football. I passionately wants us to gain promotion and I’m sure we’ll hold our own.

I am with Maidenhead here. It is about moments, moods you pick up on the way and the ultimate outcome in May only determines whether your mind is at ease and looking forward to August or worrying and wondering. Over the years, the memory bank gets fuller, the love gets deeper and the ability to forgive indiscretions or near misses grows as you grow more philosophical and (think) you've seen it all... Until something happens that you haven't seen yet.

With that said, this is by a distance the best team I have seen in my time.

I still get goosebumps and cheer when I see a clip of Alan Cork's goal at Wembley in 1993, despite knowing full well what happens next.

I'm the same as you Guesty. Whilst I celebrated moments in the Triple Assault season at the time like an utter lunatic (hugging strangers like a long lost brother, heart-rates of 120+ v Forest in the PO semi) I can't help but look back and see a season of hard endeavour with no reward.
It's hard to define what would class as a fully satisfying run. Certainly the L1 promotion season. Often a promotion from L1 for a club our size is akin to rewarding yourself for cleaning the sheets having shit the bed, but we'd been down there for so long that we'd almost become the equivalent of housebound bed shitters anyway. The eventual turnaround and escape was hugely satisfying.

It's all about expectations really. Last season for example was a success for me even though we missed out on the play offs. We exceeded expectations, endeared ourselves to outsiders and had 3 massive bonus wins v Leeds and Weds. It sounds daft but the fact that it petered out before the end of the season contributes to this feeling. I genuinely don't think I'd feel the same had we missed out on the play offs on the final day of the season for example! Illogical nonsense of course but there you go!

I've lost track of how many times I've watched us beat Leeds with Jags' stunner or the comeback against Forest in the play-off final.

Aside from nuclear war or some other cataclysm football's not going to end. It's outlived my grandparents and it'll probably outlive me. If you're waiting for the "conclusion" to the Sheffield United story then it's not coming any time soon. Last night was a great game to watch, stress me out as it did, and nothing that happens on Saturday will undo that victory.

I don't want to get too cringey with the cliches but it's akin to saying you can't enjoy life if you're one day going to die.

Nowt worse than being in a playoff final and not even having the release of scoring a goal ,or a semi final its always good to get that moment when all your nervous tension can be let out.Hate losing 1-0

That’s the difference between us and the Pork. 19 points behind us and they’re already promoted and picking their preferred Premier League squad.

Totally agree...and that's why VAR is shit.

Thought we we're there to stay after '90. Then again in '06. Will not make the same mistake again. Fancy dress last game, you betya despite my age.

I enjoyed last season, despite how it ended, so will enjoy this season even more regardless of how it ends.

Regarding CW and Co and when their current tenure ends, I will look back on it and be very very pleased with what they've done with this football club, regardless of how that also ends.

Is a promotion retroactively tarnished if we get relegated the following season?.

I find it strange to think, as we were invading the pitch at Leicester in 1990, little did we know that we wouldn't win another league game for over six months. That said, it doesn't tarnish the memory at all!

We could lose every match from here on out and I'd still consider last night a performance that showed we're more than just a little fat lad who likes to pull a sock out of his shorts every now and again.

Take it as it comes I say. We've come so close so many times only to have it taken away (the triple assault season is a great example). Sometimes, a setback can be a blessing in disguise (the last 10 minutes at Villa really got Hendo's arse into gear from then on). But we don't know. Que sera sera and all that.
