Volunteer Scouts Wanted

We are looking for Volunteer Scouts to join our Academy Recruitment Team.

If you are a keen football fan who has the ability to spot and would like to join our team this volunteer role could be just for you.

The Volunteer Scout duties will include;

• Observation of Grassroots/School/Schoolboy/girl matches between the ages or 7-15 on Saturdays and Sundays primarily
• Basic administration tasks such as recording data on to the recruitment system
• Attending events held at the Academy (Open Trial/Fun Days etc)
• Build contacts and networks within the local area
• Attending continuous professional development events and meetings
• Attending tournaments and festivals

This person must hold a full Driving License and reside within an hour and a half travelling time of our Academy facility in Sheffield. details on main site

By the time kids get to 10 all of the new "David Brooks" have been found and are at academies.

The Sheffield and district junior leagues have U7's for the kids who are football bonkers and for parents who realise or want their kids to be scouted quickly/early. Some parents are extremely pushy!

On a local front - kids around 11/12 are scouted by the Chesterfields & Rotherhams - not United or Wednesday's of this world - see above.

There are exceptions to the rules and that is what you end up looking for - especially from U12 onwards.

Indeed - but by the time City released Brooks, they had the plans in place for an academy that is probably the envy of world football, not just Europe.

There will always be David Brooks types about, and as I have posted on here before, clubs like ours within easy commute of Manchester should be camped on their doorstep for the next David brooks that is released.

We also have form in releasing players in a similar way to Brooks - a certain Kevin Davies - it happens.

LOL. We released K Davies over 25 years ago, we've hardly "got form"

I'm fairly certain that would be against the law unless the player is over 16.

I'm grassing, but one of the erstwhile Carrier Bag Firm scouts potential recruits for our Academy. He has historically gone to loads of SUFC Academy U18 & U23 games & the occasional Futures as an interested, anorak, spectator. So, helping the club out with some recruitment scouting is/was a logical progression. I haven't quite grilled him enough yet. But, what fascinates me is the difference between PERFORMANCE & POTENTIAL. I feel I have enough nouse to spot who is playing well (PERFORMANCE). But have no bollocking idea about who might develop (POTENTIAL). The CBFer I'm talking about has done courses to help him understand the difference & spot potential.....

the point is that all clubs can make mistakes whether it was 25 years ago or not.

I doubt man City are very happy that Brooks could be worth a considerable amount of money in a few years time which they have missed out on.

One of the Academy staff puts a Stone Island coat on & a Wednesday bobble hat & they look at how you react. My mate followed him around for an hour calling him school playground & farmyard names. He then found out his Address & work details & ordered some pizzas to be sent to his house. He got the job and was deemed to "hate the truffle snorters".

I went up to him, lamped him, said - I think that's enough for one day sunshine....
Refused the job & accused of being a do gooder. But, I'll learn from the experience....
