I remember giving loads out every time we played them from 2000 onwards, even more so when they pipped is to promotion from league 1. Haven’t we learnt our lesson?
Yes we’re good, yes over a season we’ll be miles in front, yes we’re favourites BUT the old cliche is true it’s a derby game expect the unexpected, I for one am fearing repercussions from 2-4. I’ve got a bad feeling we’ll lose Monday night, 12 games unbeaten and the 13th is again them two hats just as they’re picking form up and scoring goals, they’ve also had a few results gone for them and now they’ve got an outside chance of play offs, in a strange way this game is more about the 3 points than the city’s bragging rights title.

Anyway I hope I’m wrong, hate the build ups, I go from confidence to negativity within seconds and it’s all day until i go back to bed, I just want Monday over with, then we can carry on with our charge win or lose.

There has been some over-confidence from a few in here, but I think the majority know that this will be far from a given. They're on a good run - albeit not played anyone of real quality within the division - but they're well set up for this game, having had a few games to get used to Bruce's tactics and put them to good effect. We're also playing well and the league position doesn't lie, over the last 34 games we have been better than them on average. Wilder will have us firing on all cylinders, playing our style which is extremely hard to defend against and the lads will be raring to get stuck in. It promises to be a good game and one I hope can help cement our stake to an auto spot

I am confident because we are the best form team since Boxing Day and 2nd in the league. That is based on evidence and facts and isn't the same as over confidence, as at the end of the day we exist in a league where anyone can beat anyone else on their day. Monday is no different.

I don't think how we feel will have any effect on the outcome to be honest. Just like I don't think the Wednesday players were overconfident last September.

We were better than them then and if we are better than them on Monday we very well might win again.

Based on squad quality, overall performance, recent performance and a bunch of other factors we are rightly favourites. Doesn't mean we'll win but if we played it 100 times we'd win more than them

To be honest, I think the over confidence thing comes from pig fans saying we're over confident, not from actually being over confident ourselves. I've only seen a few kids spouting off about it being an easy game, the majority of posts I've seen are people talking about nerves, which is hardly over-confidence.

Pull yourself together man!

It's going to be tough for sure. We've played them 3 times in the last 2 years. All 3 games we've been in better form and have been higher in the league. We battered them and deserved the away win last season, we were more equal last season home draw but I don't think they did anything to deserve a victory and this years home draw was one of the most dominant performances of the Wilder Era. Yet we couldn't get the goal.

We have the second best defence in the league and our current defensive form is incredible. We have the third best goal scoring numbers and have the top scorer as our captain. They can't hide away and defend for their lives at home, I don't think Bruce would do that anyway. If we can't be confident now we never will be.

I'm not over-confident, as I know what derbys can do but I feel if one of us is to get the 3 points it's only going to be us.

I know what you are saying Stretch and agree but I reckon monday IS different

..eed to repeat the same criticisms over and over again?

A thread on here somewhere, also the usual clowns on Facebook
You mean like the the the thread ‘Pigs are so overconfident’? ;)

Seriously, if anything the posters on this forum have been too negative (like you). Blades starting new threads about where the Pork will be IF they beat us and asking are we happy or sad after they won on Tuesday after the teams that REALLY mattered to us, Leeds and Bristol both lost. Take a look over on Porktalk if you really want to see overconfidence, based on your theory they’re well fooked then.

What will be will be on Monday. If our lads play as we know they can we’ll probably get a result, but if we don’t it’s football, poor teams win and good teams lose all the time, even the best. Losing a game even to the Pork is not the end of the world, and if the worse happens it’ll be 100% down to what happens on the pitch, not because some sill sods on Facebook got a bit giddy.

TBH. I don’t see any overconfidence on Facebook from the exiled blades group that I post on occasionally. I said on another thread that the form book goes out of the window on these occasions!!!. Everton are hosting Liverpool on Sunday and you would imagine that the red half of the city would be super confident but I’ve not heard much confidence from them so far. UTB. COYRAWW

It's not the overconfidence (if it even exists) that i'm worried about, its the doom and gloom merchants who look at every game as if its our last before we become extinct. I think everyone deep down knows we're going to thrash the fuckers, its just a case of saying otherwise just so's they can take the "told you so" line just in case it goes tits up then coming back on here with a smug lecture on how to behave in future. For me, winding the pigs up beforehand is almost as enjoyable as beating them.

It will always be the first fixture we look for at the start of the season BB, and probably the one we all dread the most. Nothing will ever change that so yes in that respect it is different. What I meant was that even if you strip away the whole derby element, the nerves, the drama, the power of the underdog etc etc it still exists within one of the most unpredictable leagues in the world, possibly. So either team could win on Monday based on that alone. But will all things considered, I would still fancy the team in better form, who over the season have scored more, defended better and played a system that still continues to confound even very experienced managers.

Wise words from a wily old sage:);)

Nah, I don’t see overconfidence, how could we dare with our history of it just not being “our day” on so many occasions.

There were people laughing at the thought that they couldn’t reach the top 6, not a cat in hells chance but I’ll say it quietly, this division ain’t so tough is it, and with a half decent manager (gotta say he’s a decent record at this level) and good players who’ve been given a proper boot up the arse it’s certainly looking less impossible by the week isn’t it.

As for Monday, We shouldn’t get too hung up on the game or the result, it’s a jack in a box game every time anyway and unpredictable, but we should hope that after the match they carry on doing well, because they’ll be taking points off our rivals, if we keep it up, and they do, they could deprive West Brom, Leeds, Birmingham and Norwich, crucial points between now and the end of the season..

They could help us go up.....

I could have just replied fuck the pigs, but I’m almost 50 and that ship sailed years ago, I look at what benefits we get out of a Wendy team who have just found form as the season gets to the business end, and they can really assist us.

I hope Monday is an absolute classic and it seems Bruce wants them to give us a game, music to my ears, but it’s not season defining for us, and possibly not for them as they could inadvertently become our wing man for the remainder of the season..

Yes but knowing them spawny lucky bastard's tango will jump up the wind currents caused by his flabby folds of fat will hit forest fairy knock him over in the 96th minute and the ref will give a penalty even though he is 5 yards outside the box

I’ll be happier if WBA beat Leeds friday night then if Wendy do get a result they can’t say they knocked us from the auto spot cos we’ll still
be in it and we can more easily refocus on the Rotherham game knowing we are still in the driving seat.

I guarantee you it will seem like it on here if we do.... cue mega-meltdown from the usual suspects.
True. We do get mega meltdown from some at every opportunity, but I suppose we have to remember that these opportunities have been very limited under Wilder so if they didn’t flap now and again they’d flip.

im not overconfident on paper we should win & if werent rivals then should be easy but derbies are always difficult. because they are local cup finals & players are always up for it. will play above themselves. just look Rotherham perfect example of this. if they had recreated the form they displayed against both sheffield clubs theyd be top 6 but they are bottom 3 below amazingly reading. rangers when they were in 2nd tier beat celtic the reigning scottish champion in cup semi final few years ago

i know they are on good form consecutive wins. hopefully they might actually leave the rented national express at home for 1st time for 18months. which will into our hands to get the space to play which hasn't been the case in previous 2 with there 7-3-0 formation

Ordinarily I'd be either desperate for us to thrash them or just desperate not to lose but this time it's the three points I want and I don't care how we get them ,don't think the pressure is on us as losing to them won't derail our season we've got 12 play off finals now and I know the lads will give it their all and do us proud . They will have to play well to beat us though but it will be a long night if we just allow them the time and space out wide we did to west Brom
