Continuing my theme of studying the extended highlights, I have now arrived at Gibbs’ “tackle” on Freeman. This was not even blown as a foul.

The pic is a bit blurry, but the ball is 2 feet away and Gibbs’ studs are encountering Kieron’s ankle just above the boot. This can easily end your season if not your career.

As they give 2 match retrospective bans for Tom Daley impersonations from cunts like Gayle, why don’t they give retrospective reds and 3 match bans for this - as the ref obviously missed it completely?

By the way, my opinion of this is not biased by the fact that I was in with the home supporters and became embroiled in a “discussion” when a “gentleman” near me called Kieron a diving, time-wasting cheat!!

There's no way to dress this up as anything but a foul. Gibbs' foot attacks Freeman's foot, that's correct, I used the word attack. It was an assault, and one that at the very least deserved a penalty. Yet the referee chose to ignore this and allowed the player to get away with an attack on another professional. Both the ref and the WBA player were a disgrace. Why a retrospective penalty cannot be applied - yes, I know the law says otherwise - is baffling, and chooses to allow this type of attack to become an acceptable part of the game.

It was a terrible “challenge”. They cant even hide behind the “he was yellow carded at the time so we cant do anything” excuse. Wasn't it Freeman who copped one from that Leeds player last season as well (might have been Baldock)? The one that went on to score when he should have been straight red carded. But nothing happened there either.

If the authorities can't get the Mings assault right I don't hold up hope of any foul where the slightest amount of doubt can be cast.

I thought the referee noted the foul, but played advantage since we'd carried the ball forward. There was nothing to stop him going back for the yellow or red card afterwards though.

Think the Leeds one was Kalvin Phillips. Think he was booked. Regardless, they were both shockers and it's lucky that Freeman didn't suffer serious injury on both occasions.

When a player makes such a career ending type tackle like that and the ref doesn't see it or doesn't discipline the player.
Then the league should look at the incident and retroban the player otherwise the player is free to try his luck again only suspensions cut those types of studs on high ankles out of the game.

Seen in real time the ref saw what he saw. Yes it could’ve been bad but it wasn’t.

Refs can’t and won’t get every decision right and to be honest the game wasn’t a dirty game, but the ref let most things go.

I’m all for cutting out cheating after the game, but as Martin O’Neill said, the ban for Gayle didn’t help forest.

Doing the same for every late or mistimed tackle would further kill tackling. It’s already becoming more difficult to put a tackle in, let’s not try and make it a completely non contact sport.

Shockingly bad tackle, Freeman when he got to his feet showed a stamping motion to the ref so it was quite clear what he thought about it.

The only thing in Gibbs favour was I think it was an accident, Freeman miscontrolled the ball and went after it, it was after he touched the ball the second time when Gibbs tackle came in. Gibbs probably saw the mis-control and thought he could get there.

Doesn't excuse it, and it doesn't mean it wasn't a red card offence, it's just that it it wasn't deliberate

I think that the only thing that saved Freeman serious injury is that his foot wasn't firmly planted on impact,had it been it could have ended his season.

I thought it was an advantage given at the time but I was amazed when no card followed. It's a yellow at the least. It winds me up the number of silly fouls that get an instant yellow now, but you still see games go by where the worst challenge in it doesn't get a card.

You’re correct (I did not know that, but just looked it up). Oddly, that’s also true for a second yellow card that would result in a red. That’s a lot for a ref to try to work out when deciding whether to apply advantage!

You also have to wait for the ref to issue a yellow before play restarts, which is actually irritating because you see players get annoyed a lot when they try to take a quick free kick.
