U23s away at Everton

We've had numerous train cancellations this morning. We've ended up on an X2 Bus from Preston. But, we are finally approaching Southport. The U23s kick off v Everton at Southport FC at 2pm. As a brag, that will be the 214th different ground I have seen an SUFC XI play on. With number 215 hopefully coming later this week.

Today is a Premier League Cup game. At this stage it's eight groups of four teams. We're in with Everton, Doncaster & Blackburn. All play all, home & away. Top two in each group qualify for the last 16 knock out. It stands as Everton 11 points, Us 9, Blackburn 7, Doncaster 1. Everyone has got just one game left. Doncaster v Blackburn is on Monday. Anything other than a win will leave us needing a favour from Doncaster. And ..... Everton are the best ranked Under 23 team in the country at the moment.

Nope. It's due to it being a Development XI. For young lads learning the game. Some of them playing yesterday & today. Love it....

Thanks for the updates as always Phil. I’ve been meaning to ask this for ages because I’m genuinely interested, but how do you get the time to go to all these games? I’m astonished at some of the places you go, particularly midweek, to watch the development teams. Do you literally go from day to day watching one of our teams, travelling all over the country, getting pissed up? If so, how do I sign up!

I don't get pissed up. A few years ago, I graduated in unsustainable levels of ale. Since then, I just drift along having one or two. I stop drinking if I feel remotely squiffy. But, otherwise yes. United effectively field six recognisable teams in FA/EFL etc leagues. One of those, I don't really do. But First Team, Academy U23, Academy U18, Futures U21 & Futures U19 are all perfectly doable. I by no means go to every game. And, I inevitably bump into characters who go to more games than me. One guy routinely does over 100 SUFC XI games a season.
I'm 60, haven't worked since 2010. Don't have a car. Don't have a driving licence. Don't spend money keeping up with any Jones's. Time is a great thing to have .....

I'll reassure you - I don't think you were being nosey. As always, I'll emphasise the Carrier Bag Firm are a) a fully inclusive & diverse firm, who welcome all comers on any basis whatsoever, I'm happy to set up three match trials for potential recruits and b) A Parody......

Other results in the week finally knocked out U23s out of the Premier League Cup. So. I've got around to Blogging it. The Blog also includes a great away win for the Futures U21s, with a Salute to the invincible Handsworth Parramore U21s. A direct Drink Off between two 8% beers, my 215th ground watching Utd & a belting one row stand. If you'd care to ....
