Good news for us. It's been slightly painful watching him do so well this season knowing we must have been close to signing him. We were strongly linked last Summer when he was out-of-favour and Leeds fans were very down on him. Similar story to Joe Lolley.

Weren't we told that the problem with Bielsa's teams is that he never rotates and they run out of steam?

Top scorer with 14. Next has 7. Bamford is back, though whether good enough to shoulder it all is debatable.

Alan Nixon seems to think top two is WBA and Norwich I seem to think. This strengthens that to a point. My argument back is always - strikers.

Who else could rest their top two and bring in equal Calibre? Not Leeds. Not Norwich. Robson-Kanu scored the other day, but same ability as Gayle and Rodriguez?
 
Leeds have shown signs lately (in particular since spygate) that their high tempo, high pressing game is taking it's toll. 3-1-5 in their last 9.
 
Bob Mortimer said in Athletico Mince in the summer Norwich and Sheffield United would be the top 2, that was his tip.

Now he's either fucking psychic or he was taking the piss as per usual because surely NO ONE saw this coming?

As for Leeds I do expect they'll fall away now. Their January was poor.

Almost forgot what happened to Clarke as well. They also need to manage him carefully. I have some sympathy when you think what happened to us with Brooks and Coutts. Though neither of theirs are as severe. We also had to put the players first. Not that we could pick Coutts! But both were hitting peak impact when they got sidelined.

Not sad they failed to get the Swansea lad. Christ he's rapid. Glad we don't have to play them again now he has broken through!

In an ideal world scenario yes ,in reality absolutely not if our "3" closest rivals have lots of injuries then great.Would anyone be to bothered when wilder's bladdered on the open top bus in may ,not me.
 
Just seen this. This is certainly a major blow for Leeds - obviously. As one or two others have said, it remains to see how Bamford does now. He has scored goals in the past but has, of course, had his own injury issues this season.

I still think Leeds will be up there this season, I don't think they'll suddenly drop like a stone. They have had a few injuries this season, but seem to have kept it together. Norwich on the other hand, like us, have had few, and they rely so heavily on Pukki. If he gets injured in comes Jordan Rhodes!

Of course, but its like when we came up from League one, it was made all the sweeter by being that much better than the opposition, by not just scraping by, by not going up because our rivals star player got injured, we were proud because we weren't just the best, we were fucking fantastic...

Now - that would mean Norwich effectively playing with 10 men from that point onwards..... bring it on!

He tipped up Huddersfield at the start of their promotion season. I think he just goes for good footballing teams who offer a bit of value.

I commented on the other thread regarding the idea that we’re running out of steam & the idea that bielsa tactics cause us to have many injuries. Phil Hay YEP did an interview with head of our medicinal team. Above 70% of our injuries have impact injuries & not muscle injuries you get from being over worked. He actually stated that playing this may result in getting the injuries but not in the way you’d expect, he suggested as we are performing on such a high level & having so much of the ball, you’re facing more tackles & therefore increase the risk of picking up more injuries.

As for running out of steam since spygate, we are still out performing teams with chances created & having more of the ball etc so it’s not a case of us running out of steam. A combination of not taking our chances & some bad luck. If Bamford comes back clinical we’ll be back on track.

I think too much gets made of Bielsa working his teams too hard. Not saying there's no truth in it, but I think some people are expecting them to fall off a cliff - which I don't think will happen.

Fortunately for us, we're playing some cracking stuff and I think we'll pick up more points than Leeds for the remainder, regardless whether they tire or not.

I agree with Ricky that WBA could be a threat to us, but I suppose we could put that to bed on Saturday.

Really hoping it's us and Norwich who go up though, as I think we both merit it for footballing reasons.

It's definitely a blow though isn't it? He's scored more than a quarter of your league goals and his pace and energy will be missed. A lot rests on Bamford reproducing his form of 2015.

And by the looks of it, not having a plan B when James didn't sign and was so close to signing looks a miss. I wonder if you'll regret cthe messing around therr. He would have been a good outlet. I'm surprised you didn't do more in the window. I've seen a few Leeds fans saying they didn't get why you didn't recruit as we did. We've at least given ourselves options up top.

As you say you may be ok. Always hard to tell how pivotal one player is until they are not there. After 18 matches we we're top last year. Nothing suggested we would fall away. And 18 games is a fair barometer. We'd beaten Wolves already at that point as well so we hadn't been lucky with fixtures. Coutts was about the only player we couldn't afford to lose as he was the fulcrum to our set up. We didn't win a game for 5 matches and by the time we looked to replace it was already too late.

I must confess despite the rivalry, and the 'Dirty Leeds' tag, I do find you guys less 'chippy' than many of our deluded neighbours. Leeds are a bigger club. They do get more support. It's seldom a talking point amongst us though. Maybe our neighbours are bigger or have been bigger at times. What makes them so laughable is their insistence they are much bigger than they are. Akin to a Villa. No wonder their fans get derided so much.
 
Bamford has more than enough to play the lone striker role for them. Another player who looks close to returning & who could be key for the remaining games is Izzy Brown, let's hope it's too late by the time he is up to speed to make any sort of impact.

A draw or win for QPR tonight would be immense for us going into Satdi's game.

Always had a soft spot for QPR :p (but that could easily change :rolleyes:) - and they are due to win their next 3 games ;););)

If we can somehow beat West Brom, Pigs and the Dirties then we are well on our way! Unlikely I know !!!

If I could know 100% we’d definately get promoted regardless, then yeah sure.

I don't think that's a matter of fact: Bamford's form throughout his career has been generally inconsistent.
